As much as I hate the IDF, I can not think of a military that has more back for their buck.

Simple point and case is the fielding of working APS on all merkavas, and the commander his automated 360 targeting suite which everyone everywhere chooses to ignore for some reason.

Apparently, the new Israeli artillery piece was so good Rheinmetall partnered with Elbit for it.

Curious if this means the Pzh 2000 isn't seen as a good basis for next gen artillery.

US aid only lets them buy US weapons, which Trophy (and this new artillery) isn't.

doesn't matter if the money is used to buy X or Y, money is money, money is a fluid; they can buy this because they didn't have to use the money on buying something else

            yep
155 rounds arent expensive and if theyre made literally 30km from where they are fired that creates a tight loop

            >they can buy this because they didn't have to use the money on buying something else

Brainlet take, usa gibs to israel and egypt started to move the suez canal out of soviet influence.

The reason why aid to israel was 2x the egyptian one was not just due to being late cold war aligned but due to the opposite, israel main weapon suppliers from the 50s and 60s embargoed them to the point that they had to steal their own ships

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherbourg_Project

After that and with the usa not fully aligned (trying to move egypt peacefully from soviet influence) israel became extremly autarky on military stuff to the point that 30% of the gdp was on defense spending.

            https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/ISR/israel/military-spending-defense-budget

The yanks freaked out about a tiny country becaming the 8th country with space launch capability, producing it's own fighters, radars, anti missiles, some stuff like their own air to air missiles were better than the yank ones.

The yanks wanted a veto power over israel weapon exports and got it they also demanded some military projects to be cancelled.

They knew if a tiny nation developed shit like the iai lavi nations like brasil or argentina will soon follow and a big part of imperial style diplomacy is "you join our sphere and we let you buy our toys" and that was bad for burger diplo long term.

israel literally has multiple 155mm factories

They could produce more artillery than germany and the usa before the ukraine war but as far as i am aware artillery is one of the areas were they prefer us gibs they just keep the capability there tough.

making 155 in israel is just not profitable in peacetime but in wartime can be ramped up. i still dont get what does this have to do with the roem it can fire both domestic and foreign shells

Rheinmetall doesn't have the rights of the PzH 2000, it only produces the gun. KMW already produces a successor to the PzH 2000, the AGM (artillery gun module), and they already secured orders for it. Rheinmetall wants to license produce the Elbit system to get a bigger share of the artillery business.

            >a successor to the PzH 2000, the AGM (artillery gun module
Not sure how similar they actually are. But yes, KMW has basically abandoned the PZH2000 and is going all in on putting the AGM on anything that moves.

the PzH 2000 is still being supported and produced, but the AGM is more modern, automatized and requires fewer crewman
the gun is still the same though

The RCH 155 (AGM on Boxer) is the the only wheeled artillery that don't need any external dampeners and can shoot while moving. It can fire in 360° and is the only artillery with hunter killer capability. Last month both UK and Germany said they want to buy it. First ones are currently shipped into Ukraine. AGM is non crewed fully automatic. They developed that thing since 20 years, seems like it works.

Israel was looking at buying the AGM to replace their M109s, but KMW couldn't guarantee support in the event of sanctions. Israel decided to go it alone. The current Roem/SIGMA, a development of the ATMOS 2000, was the result.

Germany is the second best goy right after the US and would never sanction Israel

it still requires a driver and a commander, but they're working on making it fully autonomous apparently

          >t. doesn't understand how foreign aid works
that goes right back to American defense contractors

Wrong. israel is the only country in the world that is allowed to use US aid to bolster it's own defense industry.
