You take that back! The Jag deserves better than being compared to that scrapheap.

I mean it's made out of aluminum, so it's made with aircraft metal. Strap some wings and a pair of turbofans to it and it'd be a better plane than it is an APC. Also it's going to need a 35mm rotary gun since the GAU-8 isn't cutting the mustard anymore. Preferably smoothbore to use APFSDS and canister shells

Jaguar is closer to Aardvark than Frogfoot or Warthog.

Warthog is low and slow and could almost be a turboprop. Frogfoot isn't too far from Jag, but frogfoot is Russian garbage with the majority of its performance being propaganda that is never achieved.

British equivalent to the F-111 is the Tornado. The Jaguar is smaller than the Tornado but bigger and faster than the A-4. Maybe the crocodile gena Mig-27 is a good comparison in speed, capability and range

French version of the F-111 would be the ground attack versions of the Mirage 2000

Not really. it was really comparable to A-4 Skyhawk than A-10. Jag AT game sucked hard

they had AT cluster bombs and later LGBs for tank plinking.

British Lost TSR2. There is no F111.

          Anonymous

the Tornado was designed to fill the role that TSR-2 was going to and was designed using lessons learned from the TSR-2. The Tornado is actually aside from size very close to the Aardvark in design and role like the F-111 it was built around a highly advanced and integrated INS navigation and radar bombing system. They even made a slightly dubious interceptor version in homage to the F-111B since there was no Robert Macnamara(s) around to stop them.

The ground attack Viggen is an associate member of this very small cadre of cold war high speed low level night interdiction aircraft with flying computers for an INS system.

          >mach 1.6

that's how it goes at low level. you can be doing 700 knots and still be subsonic.

"Supersonic attack trainer" isn't a description you see often, so give it that much

It did the job I think but it was very much a Cold War artifact

Vark has lots more range I think, Jag was more of a CAS bird than a bomber

Not having the pretence of using a GAU or Gsh probably helps actual survivability

      Try F-5

Jag: 7 hardpoints, 4500kg load, mach 1.6, no internal cannon
    A10: 11 hardpoints, 7300kg load, mach 0.65, 30mm internal cannon

moron it's not in the same class. Don't pretend the Jag was in the same class of CAS plane as the A10. The Jag was a trainer/light strike bomber that was shoehorned into the attack/CAS mission because Europeans are too poor to afford specialised airframes for specialised tasks. Don't insult our intelligence by pretending otherwise.

God the cope by yuropoors is sad.

not exactly, the jag was designed as a trainer/light strike bomberand used in attack role in permissive environments because it was available and cheaper to run than tornado with a smaller logistics requirement.

the tornado still remained the primary strike and attack bird for the RAF while both were in service, the Jag got used in situations when the tornado wasnt required because it was cheaper.
