The Jaguar .... was fully the equal of the A-10 and Su-25 in British, French and Indian service. In fact, it could be said to be superior to either of the latter as it was supersonic and had nuclear delivery capabilities

You take that back! The Jag deserves better than being compared to that scrapheap.

Are you about to tell us that the M113 would make a great aircraft as well?
meant for
I mean it's made out of aluminum, so it's made with aircraft metal. Strap some wings and a pair of turbofans to it and it'd be a better plane than it is an APC. Also it's going to need a 35mm rotary gun since the GAU-8 isn't cutting the mustard anymore. Preferably smoothbore to use APFSDS and canister shells
Sure your enemy just delivered a low-yield nuclear device to your front doorstep but it's okay,
because he flew a Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag

>both the hosts are visibly cringing
"aah, no Jeremy it slipped my mind yesterday."
>cuts back to the wienerpit, jeremy maintains eye contact with the camera with a grim face until commercial
He should've aimed for Birmingham
The jag has a different mission profile than either of those aircraft and shouldn’t be compared.
Had a targeting pod 10 years before the A-10, of course it was better
>over-wing missiles
Nani the frick?!
just to make the mounting system extra awkward as well as the aircraft probably doesn't need to be pulling Gs when attempting to fire the missile
>aircraft probably doesn't need to be pulling Gs when attempting to fire the missile
AA missiles? Are you for real anon?
Was added in the 1990s to allow for electronic countermeasures pods on the outboard pylons under the wings in addition to bombs on the inboard pylons, while also keeping sidewinders that originally occupied the outboard pylons
Jaguar is closer to Aardvark than Frogfoot or Warthog.
Warthog is low and slow and could almost be a turboprop. Frogfoot isn't too far from Jag, but frogfoot is Russian garbage with the majority of its performance being propaganda that is never achieved.
>but frogfoot is Russian garbage with the majority of its performance being propaganda that is never achieved.
Man this war hasn't only broken the vatniks minds. . .
>Jaguar is closer to Aardvark
Try F16. Fast, light, cheap, numerous.
British equivalent to the F-111 is the Tornado. The Jaguar is smaller than the Tornado but bigger and faster than the A-4. Maybe the crocodile gena Mig-27 is a good comparison in speed, capability and range
French version of the F-111 would be the ground attack versions of the Mirage 2000
>Jag AT game sucked hard
they had AT cluster bombs and later LGBs for tank plinking.
British Lost TSR2. There is no F111.
the Tornado was designed to fill the role that TSR-2 was going to and was designed using lessons learned from the TSR-2. The Tornado is actually aside from size very close to the Aardvark in design and role like the F-111 it was built around a highly advanced and integrated INS navigation and radar bombing system. They even made a slightly dubious interceptor version in homage to the F-111B since there was no Robert Macnamara(s) around to stop them.
The ground attack Viggen is an associate member of this very small cadre of cold war high speed low level night interdiction aircraft with flying computers for an INS system.
that's how it goes at low level. you can be doing 700 knots and still be subsonic.
Not really. it was really comparable to A-4 Skyhawk than A-10. Jag AT game sucked hard
Bong government/civil-service committee reasoning process:
>Q: Is it of proven effectiveness? Is it any good? Does it show promise?
>A: SHUT IT DOWN!
I'm sure this is how we work, but can intheknow people provide examples?
All that came from the French input tho
"Supersonic attack trainer" isn't a description you see often, so give it that much
It did the job I think but it was very much a Cold War artifact
Vark has lots more range I think, Jag was more of a CAS bird than a bomber
Not having the pretence of using a GAU or Gsh probably helps actual survivability
Try F-5
It was in RAF service for over 30 years and was replaced by the Tornado and Eurofighter, so not one of our worst moves.
A rare example of Anglo-French cooperation resulting in a decent bit of kit.
>Missiles over the wings
I hate anglos and their shit taste so much, bande de connards
Jag: 7 hardpoints, 4500kg load, mach 1.6, no internal cannon
A10: 11 hardpoints, 7300kg load, mach 0.65, 30mm internal cannon
Black person it's not in the same class. Don't pretend the Jag was in the same class of CAS plane as the A10. The Jag was a trainer/light strike bomber that was shoehorned into the attack/CAS mission because Europeans are too poor to afford specialised airframes for specialised tasks. Don't insult our intelligence by pretending otherwise.
God the cope by yuropoors is sad.
>Plebbit spacing
Opinion automatically discarded, have a nice day immediately
>no internal cannon
What do you think this is?
Jaguar has two 30mm cannons. Either a Aden or a DEFA depending on operator
>mach 1.6
in practice barely supersonic
>The Jag was a trainer/light strike bomber that was shoehorned into the attack/CAS mission because Europeans are too poor to afford specialised airframes for specialised tasks
not exactly, the jag was designed as a trainer/light strike bomberand used in attack role in permissive environments because it was available and cheaper to run than tornado with a smaller logistics requirement.
the tornado still remained the primary strike and attack bird for the RAF while both were in service, the Jag got used in situations when the tornado wasnt required because it was cheaper.
Kek Jaguar had two 30mm auto cannon each with a fire rate up to 1700rpm.
Jag was not Equal to A-10 or Su25 however it could in one pass deliver payload like some of the terminal guided weapons you see now.
She could also nuke.
>Mediocre plane was better than shitty meme planes

Literally the first time I've ever seen top-mounted hard-points.
The Lightning did at times too, but mostly for fuel tanks.

These were hot in Gulf and Bosnia
Not saying that the Jag was good or bad, but judging by this thread the average /k/ poster is absolutely fricking moronic.
any aircraft thread that brings low and slow CAS and the A-10 into it are going to bring out the morons.
I just want to talk about cold war high speed all weather low level interdiction aircraft and their autistic INS systems 🙁
you're about 10 years too late for that sorry my man.
By the end of their life, Jaguars were mostly holding on decades of rust, tape and glue. One of the rare cases where I’m glad an aircraft was retired.
Not a sexy jet, but it did its job. Thanks for your service, Jaguar, and enjoy your retirement in museums.
