The Great Kherson Rout

Thread 2.

Vatnik telegrams are going ballistic. It seems there is quite a bit of panic this time. Thousands of russians being shelled all along the crossings as they attempt to flee. This has the potential to be catastrophic for the Russian horde.

To think these mouthbreathers had literal months to withdraw from a clearly unholdable position and probably just chose not to do so because of pitifully clinging to their "muh based and strong russia" image.

It's seems to be a russian cope, everything to them is an "agreement" like how some russians claim Alaska was under a lease to justify invading Alaska.

Alaska was under a lease. You need to read the contract of 1867, which clearly states that if Russia and America are ever at war then the lease is cancelled and Russia has every right to retake its property.

The menshiveks won the election, then tried to kick out the Soviet councils IIRC. On top of that, the menshiveks weren’t going to hold another election for a long time, and were trying to continue the war. Lenin’s actions to throw out the Provisional Government were completely in line with what the people wanted.

I just read this whole thing. Russia gave up all claims to everything, America got claim to everything except the Greek orthodox churches, which instead went to their resident priests, all Russian citizens who didn't scram within three years became solely American citizens, and that's the whole lot of it. Even Russian government documents became US property, although the Russian government could freely request copies of any such documents at any time and they would be furnished.

                Cliff notes
Article 1: all the land for America, with no contingencies or future requirements
Article 2: all the government buildings and property therein except for Greek Oriental Churches, which belong collectively to whoever worships there
Article 3: All the Russians who don't leave within three years will become full American citizens. Not counting uncivilized natives, they're going to be dealt with separately, if at all.
Article 4: when it's convenient, the Russian emperor will send an agent to complete the sale. All previous articles go into effect immediately, absolutely, and with no further limitation, regardless of how long it takes the Russians to send their guy
Article 5: Russian troops go as soon as it's convenient to do so.
Article 6: here's your check, don't spend it all in one place, also there are no third parties involved, just US government and Russian Emperor. All rights currently reserved by Russia in this territory are now rights reserved by the United States. Full stop.
Article 7: once we all agree and everyone's put their name on the line, we'll have a formal signing in Washington within three months.

They figured that if they didn't sell it for a few million, they'd lose it at gunpoint to the British, and they were probably right. Trying to send armies from Russia to Alaska was completely ridiculous back in the 19th century, it would be outright impossible to defend.

Because Russia was under the belief the British were going to invade and annex it to make it part of Canada. So they decided to sell it to the USA to make money and avoid a costly war with the superpower of the time (Britain) and thought that maybe Britain would start a war with USA over it and then they could get it back anyway by buying it back. Same idea the French had with Louisiana. Hoped they could get it back at another time.

That's part of the original treaty, which was written on both english and french. French was the common tongue of international diplomacy back then.

Also, I think the moron just randomly circled part of it and didn't evne realise that it was part of the french text.

Russians are dumb and cant into meaning of words besides saving fave by victimize and over exxagerated.
Back than some politicians that didnt spoke for the whole NATO said "we dont plan to grow into the east nor will ask them to join us". What Russia heard was "the NATO promises we will never let the east join".
Probably the same here. US get brokered a deal that Russia will leave Kherson but they need some goodwill from the US. The US than probably said "Ok, we will ask the Ukraine to not attack your retreat, we will not pressure them to attack and maybe you get a day to move your troops". Russia thought they were clever because they already set a trap in Kherson and that the Ukraine will never attack them till all troops are on the left side. They think they are smart negotiators while they only thing they know is to put others under pressure and intimidate.

I suspect they are trying to draw them into the city and then try to shell them from across the river

They probably don’t care much about shelling their own troops as long as they score enough kills

Seems dumb because the Kherson front is full of professional fighting forces but they are probably kind of desperate at this point

Ukrainian/Nato artillary out-ranges Russian. Thats not going to work, and is fricking moronic. It was publically announced so they weren't hanged in the streets from another unplanned rout.

The range doesn’t matter as much as long as they can provide saturation fire. Probably with the explicit aim of trying to destroy advanced equipment. It’s not great but there’s no reason for them to say anything otherwise even if they were going to retreat

My one theory is they decided shoring up morale at home > a safer retreat. They needed to be the ones to break the news to control the narrative domestically and thought they could arrange an escape before announcing it would fully backfire, and their gamble is currently blowong up on them.

Mine is that they're hoping this will be their Buenos Aires moment and will turn the Russian public in favour of the war because Ukraine massacred thousands of Russians making a peaceful retreat/good-will gesture
Apparently the Kremlin were expecting more enthusiasm for the previous mobilisation

          >because Ukraine massacred thousands of Russians making a peaceful retreat/good-will gesture

That sounds really dumb given an orderly retreat would probably have been a lot better for morale given hundreds to thousands won't be dead. It's not even like most people in Russia believed that the referendum makes sense.

There's hardly any news or pics of his women, I'd be surprised if there was enough to make a meme about cuckolding.

His ex-wife married some corrupt guy way younger than her who seems to be another of Putin's bagmen. So it's like he married her off, he actually joked about that on TV during the divorce announcement.

This rings true, the Russian elite only care about their own position and status, which is best protected by forestalling a narrative that they oversaw a chaotic collapse of the front.

They announce an orderly retreat and talk about how they care so much about the common soldier. The military cost of this propaganda effort to their own side is irrelevant to them.

    Hello.
I’m definitely not one of the measly analysts tasked with processing a lot of not directly combat related “interesting” data and reports. and it’s absolutely not a sleepless night here in lithuania.
We are not in shock about the fact that any sudden massive movement of ukranian troops puts the russians into stupor.
We are also not completely flabbergasted how with conflicting orders (retreat orders and faked “stay and fight” orders) a LOT of troops did neither. They kinda started slowly preparing for a lazy withdrawal carefully packing things away as if they had months.
We are now also not trying to calculate the current losses over the whole river crossing moronation.
We currently don’t estimate that 20k is not realistic, but we also do not know for a fact that at least 3400 are indeed stranded with no way to escape and nothing to hold on to. The real number of potential PoWs would be 2-3k.
This is somewhat above not our prior calculations and we are not mad that when we recommended to urgently prepare the PoW camps for massive influx of people Ukranians didnt do anything.
I’m tired to put the nots so don’t forget - the following is complete fiction that I find interesting and pull out of my ass.
There is a group of russian soldiers who hunkered down in a school building and are phoning to everyone who listens about their surrender. They threw their guns in a truck outside. 20 minutes later the truck got stolen. Currently nobody knows where the truck is.
there is a report of several soldiers rading a store and stealing rubber matrasses. presumably as floating devices.
Another group of 4 surrenderers just got drunk and slept through the retreat orders.
There is an abandoned Z painted truck full of musical instruments in chernobaevka. Mostly tubas and the lot. We are unsure what to make of it.
No other funny stories - mostly a lot of conflicting noise.

I mean… We are not constantly on calls from several other groups of analysts because there is not a figurative war over “okay what next?” question. There are several main strategic plans and a whole lot of tactical mess and we dont have a shouting match between generals on nato and ukranian side about what happens next. No other funny stories as I said.

I think the former. One of the things I once read about war stories was that they were all true and all false, that the details were always going to be embellished and mixed up, but it wasn't important because that the reality was just as random and confusing as the stories made it sound and the experience was what was important. I think for the first time we might be able to see some of the details unfiltered by the human desire to have things make sense.

There could have been a music store somewhere. It could also have been the instruments of a military band. I dunno if Russia does it, but many other militaries have random marching bands in their units for morale and as a way to build camaraderie and keep some of them out of trouble when they're not doing anything important. Not dedicated "music is my job description" bands, just soldiers with musical talent.

The military band equipment is probably the answer. It might be sitting there since the first days where the plan was to quickly win and maybe hold a parade.rgdmrw

So lets assume all the news that goes Ukraine's way is true
    >Kherson is effectively surrounded after capturing neighbouring settlements
    >Vatnik morons actually called the retreat before securing their route out/informing all soldiers/without a backup plan and now somehow 20k are stuck on the wrong side of the river and unable to get out without just risking a possibly fatal swim and abandoning their gear
    >Kherson is not a booby trapped hellhole ready to blow as a trump card and AFU are already entering and clearing it
If so...just how many deaths are we looking at here? How many vatniks are hoing to be blown to bits by drones and artillery? Drown in the river? Try fight back and be cut down by kill squads backed up by armour? How many will buckle and surrender?

Like are we realistically talking 10k+ dead here? I cannot believe Putin could downplay this if so. Losing that many men in just a few days due to a bungled retreat from the ONLY major city they still held between Ukraine and Crimea...frick.

I would hold back the assessment of vatBlack person losses for the next 48 hours. The fact that they have not picked up on the final straight is already visible, but the simultaneous pressure on Bahmut is not accidental. Himars and Excalibur will not reproduce miraculously. Surovikin clearly despises the mobilized and only cares for the "valuable" units of the military. He has a strong position in the oligarchy and gov parts of structures. Strong enough to force a retreat to save valuable units in exchange for losses of despised mobiks. It's a retreat, but unfortunately not a catastrophe, more a consolidation of defense. Not good in the long run, because despite the fact that the UA units are operating successfully, the situation of ruSSian fascists will paradoxically improve and not worsen after this retreat. Too bad that Surovikin has such a strong position and more or less knows what he's doing by sacrificing cannon fodder. Surovikin is human garbage so this move is in his playbook. The guy ordered to shoot protesters during the Yanayev coup, raped and strangled a Chechen woman, his battalion committed war crimes, and he shot his logistics colonel who discovered his machinations. Literal frickin' war criminal.

Kherson was actually very well staffed, it had the leftovers of VDV, Spetsnaz and Red Guard, AFU/TDF was having a lot of trouble with them.

VDV in particular was said to be very professional but a bit too by-the-book and rigid so local TDF who were Soviet vets could frick with them by using unconventional tactics they didn't have doctrine for.

    >high command had no idea what to do: whether to use mobniks as human shields to buy time for the pros to evacuate or do it slow and steady
    >plan was wait and see if enough Republicans would take Congress so Ukraine aid would stop or slow to a trickle
    >midterm goes horrible for GOP and there's enough pro-Ukrainian GOP to continue support even if House flips

Genuine question for the oinkie supporters: are you guys willing to admit at this point that ((Zelensky)) and his side are on super thin ice and would have capitulated if Globohomosexual had not propped them up?

I get that you guys hate Russia. I get that Russia is not some unbeatable enemy and has performed very poorly. I fully acknowledge that mismanagement and cowardice could very well defeat Russia and topple the Putin regime. But can you guys agree that you aren't winning, the September Offensive has stalled, and, barring Globohomos entry into the war, we are at the Ruthenian high water mark? If not, why not?

For full disclosure, I am an Amerifat, never-served, many guns that is pro Z for purely political reasons. I want Russia to come out on top, but I have no skin in the game, nor do I think Putin is 'muh based czar'. I know there are a whole pile of nazi-larpers on the oinkies side, but I don't care because I am not some commie homosexual (though it is pretty amusing to see nazi-larpers die to protect a israeli leader's regime). I am asking this to see if any pro-oinkie voices can make a coherent explanation of how Oinkraine comes out on top, because I just don't see it. Feel free to attack me personally, but it just reinforces my intuition that pro-oinkie is a collection of factions with ulterior political motives and faith in their side, but no actual concrete strategy or reasoning.

I don’t care. The important part is the “second strongest” military is getting its ass handed to it

Western support only really ramped up once the Ukrainians showed they were actually managing to hold back Russia. Once the Kyiv offensive failed it was clear Russia would never take the entiret of Ukraine.

So no, Ukraine as a state could've managed to continue to exist even without Post February 24 support from NATO, but they would've certainly not been able to push back Russia as much as they have to this day without it.

if nato hadn't expanded past 80s limit russia would be losing to some form of defensive alliance of eastern european countries even harder right now

Hate to break it to you but lots of people just really hate Russia. Did you think threatening the world with nukes for decades would have no consequences?
