>The government is currently being couped by an alliance of gang bangers led by a man known simply as "Barbeque." The capital is besieged and largely under gang control, the prisons have been opened, the prisoners armed, and most contact with the outside world severed even as the presidential palace is under attack.

And to be fair, Barbeque has real beef with the government. He was a gang leader ruling over several settlements while being a police officer and had close ties with Haiti's last president and enforced security at the street level for him, keeping violence way down.

But the PM of the President likely has him assassinated (he was definitely assassinated, shot to death). Since then, the PM has ruled as a dictator. He keeps saying he will hold elections but the Pres died in 2021 and he recently kicked elections back again, to late 2025.

So they killed Barbeques friend and then tried to take away his fief.

Sounds like we have another Prigo-like arc with this story. Neat. Hope ol BBQ gets his revenge. I know nothing of the sides in this conflict but at least he has a charm.

Barbecue was a brutal enforcer. His initial claim to fame was murdering Aristide supporters with funds from the oligarch Reginald Boulos in the "Lasalin massacre." He's also, by his own admission, a Duvalierist (after François "Papa Doc" Duvalier, who allegedly had an army of "zombies" at his disposal back in the 60s).

      >"On November 13, 2018, police and other paramilitary personnel entered the neighborhood of Lasalin in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. What followed was a massacre of the civilian population. Buildings, including schools, were fired upon and destroyed, people were injured and killed, with some burned alive, women were sexually assaulted and raped and hundreds were forcibly displaced from homes. Bodies were either burned, taken away to be disappeared, buried, never to be found, or in some cases left to be eaten by dogs and pigs ... we have extracted corroborating evidence for our findings from investigative Haitian journalists and from a public interview with one of the key perpetrators of the massacre, former police officer Jimmy Cherizier, aka “Barbecue”.

Barbecue has real beef... but when you blow up on social media in Haiti, you blow up for real. Where's Sean Penn when you need him???

Like others said, he has a Prigozhin sort of charm. But like Pringles, that doesn't stop him from being a total ghoul (in his case, perhaps literally).

    >that guy in the blue hijab
Very feminine face and eyes. Cute shirt too. I bet he gets railed by all the other dudes in his gang. It even looks like he has budding little breasts.

Anyway to answer your question, it's because modern warfare is anti-fun and africans are very backwards both in terms of technology and tactics. They're wacky, which is something that's in very short supplies these days.

yeah I guess it could be a balaclava. I just assumed that the garment that covers the face is separate from the garment that covers the rest of the head.

I thought so too but then I figured girls wouldn't be allowed into gangs, which is why I made that post. He's a really feminine looking fella, even in clothes that hide most of his face and with most of his body not being visible.

Not when he has boys like that. Anyway, I'm sure they have girls but I don't think they let them handle the guns or pose for photos with the lads

    >Jimmy Chérizier (also called "Babekyou" or "Barbecue"; born 1976 or 1977)[2] is a Haitian rebellious leader and former police officer who is the head of Fòs Revolisyonè G9 an fanmi e alye ("Revolutionary Forces of the G9 Family and Allies", abbreviated "G9" or "FRG9"), a federation of over a dozen Haitian gangs based in Port-au-Prince.[3][4] Chérizier is currently considered one of the most powerful gang leaders in Haiti.[5][1] He is believed to be responsible for numerous large-scale massacres in the Port-au-Prince area.[3][6][7]
    >In March 2024, he stated that his gangs were fighting to overthrow Prime Minister Ariel Henry, and take power in Haiti.[8]
    >Chérizier has denied that his nickname "Babekyou" (or "Barbecue") came from accusations of his setting people on fire. Instead, he says it was from his mother having been a fried chicken street vendor.[2]

Yes, there's a certain kino to it all. So many ignorant posts about how suspicious it seems that these "gang members" are well armed and trained. It's because they're led by ex-police or ex-military, and they've been raiding military storehouses and bases for gear. These frickers are serious and not some lackluster idiots.

looks comfy. All that operator shit like bulletproof vests and helmets and all that is really lame. I understand its practical utility but dudes with guns is peak aesthetic. I wouldn't mind a few frills here and there, like the ones real countries add to their dress uniforms, but these people are dirt poor so they get a pass.

Why do many of them lift their shoulders up like that, like the guy in red? I've seen a whole bunch of Africa-adjacent fighters do it and never understood why.
