AHEAD can be also used for ground operations with a rangefinder. enjoy engulfing battlefields with tungsten shrapnel. during early tests it was shown that with a minimum amount of rounds, you were able to pretty much able to shotgun the whole front of a tank turret damaging or even destroying most of the optics

          >Buys russian oil
We're landlocked and cannot replace Russian oil in any realistic timeframe. Same as Czechs and maybe Slovaks as well. Bulgarians also asked for exemption since their refineries can only process Russian oil.

Tried to block and watered down certain EU sanctions?

          >Tried to block and watered down certain EU sanctions
          Nope.

Blocking NATO expansion. Blocking arms aid to Ukraine through Hungary.

          >Blocking NATO expansion.
          Didn't happen.
          >Blocking arms aid to Ukraine through Hungary.
Through the land borders yes, but that's a nothingburger. Airspace and air bases have been in use since day one. But yes, I do think that we should have supplied arms to the Ukies.
Orban is a crook and a massive homosexual but shit got really overblown with people screaming for months that Hungary wants/wanted to invade Ukraine alongside Russia and partition them so glorious Transcarpathia can become Hungarian soil once again.

              >All the air shipments had to go around Hungary
Demonstrably false. Fatso even passed a government decree that shit can go through Hungary, between NATO countries, only "condition" is that nothing goes directly from Hungary to Ukraine. Which again is a nothingburger since supplies are going in from Poland.
              https://english.atlatszo.hu/2022/05/13/weapons-shipments-for-ukraine-did-pass-through-hungary-despite-the-governments-contradicting-claims/

Sure, they're dragging their feet with the NATO ratification in Parliament, but there's no way they'll revoke their support and veto, that would be spectacularly stupid and nonsensical, even for him.

Except that matters strategically because Hungary is not a reliable NATO partner and really never should have joined in the first place. Magyars would rather be Russian as like Serbs they share most of their cultures so it's natural for Hungary to side with its real brothers.

Hungary buys Western weapons for pragmatic reasons because Russian gear is nearly always junk, but Hungarians want nothing to do with NATO or the EU as Orban demonstrates. Unlike Turkey whose existential enemy Russia has always been, Hungary is natural for vatnik assimilation because it's simple, devoutly superstitionist peasants are so easily manipulated. Hungarian intelligentsia were wiped out under Stalin and were too few to matter had they survived. The military implications for NATO aren't severe but Hungary is a permanent weak point with a deep love for all things Soviet. (1958 got rid of the patriots.)

              Boxer is a Rheinmetall/KMW co-production
the Hitron on the other hand will be 100% Rheinmetall, now combine that with the Lynx being a Rheinmetall only production it makes sense.

No military stuff has been sent to Ukraine. Partly because thats Orbans policy, and partly because there is not much to send there.
Whatever isn't needed to maintain some sembalance of a functioning army has already been given away (upgraded T-72s to Iraq during the 2000s), or is complete junk.
Like there are more than a dozen Mig-29 rotting away in the open without maintenance, which is borderline criminal negligence.

      A few corrections.

No confirmation on exact missile number, but it is likely only 2 on one side.

      [...]
      [...]
What are the handles on the side armor for?

Those are the kinetic/kill elements of the Strikeshield APS. "An Energy Blade", likely some sort or reactive material dust that deflagrates during interception. Safe but effective.

      https://i.imgur.com/iKITFY7.png

They are stored in the bulges and pop out when needed.

The side panel idea was dropped, they are top mounted.

The slits at the top are the Strikeshield APS, the handles at the bottom are to access the storage space I think.

The side panels are all armor, at least at the APS. "Handles" are kinetic/kill elements for the APS.

      That’s an extreme waste

      Top mounted in current model.

Wow, talk about grounbreaking new innovations!

I too would've liked an actual HE-FRAG projectile instead of the Shrapnel AHEAD, but nothing can be perfect.

A little trivia. The Strikeshield is an active protection system, but once used, it won't just disappear like spent ERA tiles. The box us made from HHS or UHH steel, and offers some protection by itself. Not much, but it is placed on top of already present armor, and it protects that.

with all these purchases, Hungarian army will have like one third the equipment Romania currently has, and its not like not literally every EE nation is planning on shitloads of more purchases.

Remember, their army barely exists as of now. Most ex-WP nations have modernized their soviet stock or developped their own stuff, in contrast Hungary totally let their defense industry go. Right now they have no self propelled arty (okay, I think two pzhs arrived), barely any AA and tanks, no MLRS, and so on. They got trucks I guess, and the Gripens. In mid-2010s Orban only spent like 0,5% of their GDP on defense, and the figure wasn't much higher before either. From what I gather even during WP times they ignored their people's army since they had the soviet southern army group stationedt here.

It's a step in the right direction, but let's not pretend Hungary is going to be any kind of half-relevant military power.
