The Carney has returned to port from her 7 month deployment, during which she intercepted / shot down 65 targets that included anti-ship missiles, ballistic missiles, air and seaborne drones.

Say something nice about her and her crew.

why do destroyers these days have such a wide beam? are they top heavier with all that phased array equipment or is it for helicopter pads? or both? I only noticed because that 5"(?) gun looks tiny compared to the deck space.

      >Destroyers these days
What era are you comparing them to? The Spruance class only had a 4 ft narrower beam than the Burkes.

modern ships of all classes are just massive in general

Modern destroyers are the same size as WWII-era cruisers.

          Anonymous

ignore those morons. a wider beam increases initial stability/primary stability while significantly decreasing reserve stability. this means the burke is more vulnerable to overturning but decisively more stable in general. along with the increased stability comes more internal space which is also nice. i can link a DTIC paper on the burke's hull if you want to get autistically technical about it.

Isn't it great that we get to shave 25% off the cost of each destroyer by gluing a ton of bullshit to a 40 year old hull design?

Wow came back from months of doing target practice against the easiest target range imaginable. It’s like a joint training exercise with the Houthis except the USN doesn’t have the usual limitations to make the training useful from a learning perspective. And all it takes is one string of screw-ups for one of these armed target drones to hit and cause a GIANT blow to perception of US power. FOR LITERALLY NO REASON. It’s like the Biden admin is there with its thumb stuck in its mouth not wanting to commit to either solution (leave since no one is paying insurance for passage there anyway or get rid of the Houthis) because of their endless fears of regional wars and other bullshit so they just sort of defeault into just sitting there showing the US still totally matters and stuff. Frick it what a ridiculous clownshow.

        > When the USA collapses,
USA is allowing both legal and illicit immigration on the basis of acid collapse by importing millions in raw numbers to work shitty low wage jobs, keep benefits down, and housing prices up. The US also does this as every single other nation in the developed world is facing serious demographic issues in terms of birth rates and age distributions. Nations like South Korea, China, and Japan have record low fertility rates with europe not far behind. US doesn’t face these issues as bad despite US whites facing low fertility rates as it mmoorts more migrants from south of the border, too bad for the browns that enter the US also face declining birth rates due to US style living and expenses but there is plenty to import to work as underpaid labor. Things like migration and low skilled/educated labor might bring raw numbers but they are not going to fix the social security crisis and keep important high level jobs in running condition.
        >then no country on earth will prop-up the euros nor the Africans nor the central and south American shitholes
Europe props up itself but is major trade partners with the US, who has a growing population. Europe is the world most developed and economically successful continent. Africa is being propped by China while Cnetral and south american economies are reliant in trade with the rest of the world. They too are a continent that trades with each other, but with the benefit of always being poor so they have led to lose in a global financial crisis.
        >then I will laugh at all of the starving morons crying for their gibs.
Unless climate catastrophe occurs i doubt that will happen
        >I will laugh at all of the military junk rotting away, just like what happened in the USSR
USSR era junk is rotting away on ukrainian fields. Russia never bothered to scrap the remainder of so called junk to sustained their corrupt military as some sort of insurance when a war kicks off.

I'm honestly surprised Egypt hasn't been shitting bricks and going on a "peacekeeping" mission to get the canal back to capacity, since they are losing out on a whole lot of money and the only reason the US gives them so many gibs is so the canal is kept flowing.

Egypt is governed by people who have no moral compass and are fully controlled by people who line their pockets.

They don't even have to respond to the populace because Egypt is basically lawless, so society has developed an underground economy and organically regulates itself.

It's actually similar to Argentina or other countries where the leadership and economy is so officially fricked that people just find a way to do business and live without any input from the government, because no one believes in them.

So the government isn't going to get into any kind of war with anyone because suddenly they'll have to actually take a stance on something.

            Anonymous

The lack of moral compass and desire to line their pockets is what I would have expected to pressure them go do some warcrimes in Yemen if it meant turning back on the cashflow. I have no illusions about Egypt being a good, or even functional country, but outside of some vague Muslim brotherhood, and I don't even know if the Houthis and Egyptians are the same branch of Muslim or not, they have no reason to not go slap the shit out of the people costing them billions of dollars.

Egypt is an American stooge Govt, with a population that 110% supports Gaza/Hamas.

The stooges don't want to risk losing their stooge positions to popular uprising, and know the US Taxpayer will cover their gibs either way, so their tactical move is to just butt-out and lay low, and do nothing much either way.
