What limitations? Linux-based operating systems are generally much more versatile than either windows or mac, which are gimped beyond belief so that 90iq apes can't hurt themselves using them.
The world already runs on linux, who cares about what the proles use as a bootloader for chromium (the actual operating system as far as the average person is concerned)

Running huge swaths of Windows only software. I'm primarily a Linux user (mostly Manjaro these days) and even I know it's just fricking intentionally obtuse to act like its not limiting to most people because of compatibility. For most people it's just one or two programs that won't work right in WINE, but that means rebooting to another partition potentially multiple times a day just to use that software if they wanted to dual boot.
The world already runs on linux, who cares about what the proles use as a bootloader for chromium (the actual operating system as far as the average person is concerned)
has a point in that most people live in a web browser these days anyway. I switched both my Parents over to Linux after they balked at Windows 10 and Microsoft's hard-sell campaign for it back in 2015, neither of them misses the Windows-only applications everyone loves to cite. (Office, Photoshop, yadda yadda)
what's the arduino of cartridges?
BB gun. Small, cheap, the very opposite of powerful, but if you're doing a small job like knocking over some empty cans on your back porch then it's fine.
I've done the same for my parents. But, right now, Linux really only works well for the extremities. The very casual users don't use anything that cares about platform at all. The very advanced users can get what they want running one way or another. But people in the middle who have non-casual uses for the computer really feel the limitations of Linux software availability. The gap is closing with more commonly used software moving to cloud based and gaming compatibility layers getting nearly native performance in many cares, but a lot of users will still encounter problems they're not equipped to solve.
>huge swaths of Windows only software.
What huge swaths? You can run pretty much all windows software through compatibility layers like WINE and now Steam Proton. And in most cases end user software has alternatives that work perfectly fine so this issue is overblown.
Besides, "x-only software" is a moronic argument if you are a windowsgay. There is orders of magnitude more that only runs on linux because developing and distributing software is much easier on linux. I work in robotics/machine learning research and using linux is not a choice, it's the standard.
>compatibility layers like WINE and now Steam Proton
This frequently requires making tweaks to each individual program. There's an entire Arch wiki article on tweaks to get games working I've personally had to use numerous times https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Steam/Game-specific_troubleshooting. It's not nearly as bad as it was 10, 5, even 2 years ago, but trying to run any assortment of Windows only software would be a fricking nightmare if you didn't understand basic shit like using the terminal. And even then, certain popular games with anti-cheat systems are just total no-gos.
It's disingenuous to act like this shit is within the capabilities of the average user. Linux, right now, only works for people who don't do much with computers and people who know what the frick they're doing with computers. That gap is closing, but its not closed.
And, as a Linuxgay who still thinks most people are not capable of using only Linux daily, windows-only software is a fricking great argument because of WHAT software is Windows only and what software is Linux only. a random person is a frick of a lot more likely to want to use some industry-specific piece of business software nobody has invested time to get running smoothly on WINE or play a AAA game with anti-cheat that can't run on WINE on purpose than frick around with machine learning.
>certain popular games with anti-cheat systems are just total no-gos
Kernel-level spyware not working is probably a feature to a large slice of the Linux userbase.
Frankly, if modern computing is supposed to be secure, user-installed applications should have vastly less access to the system they run on, not more.
The way applications work on most desktop operating systems is like giving the mail guy keys to your house so he can walk in any time and drop the mail on your table. You'll just have to trust the guy to not do anything unexpected.

I'm not talking about Linux for Linux nerds like you and me. I'm talking about Linux for random ordinary people. Software they use and want to keep using is a higher priority than any ideological or security argument.

It can be set up more securely than Windows can be set up. Or a lot less securely.
I paid for all my guns setting up Linux based systems. Your argument is invalid. Also airguns are amazing and you should feel ashamed for not having any.
The world already runs on linux, who cares about what the proles use as a bootloader for chromium (the actual operating system as far as the average person is concerned)
Gentoo would be a p80, you build it to whatever spec you want, with whatever parts you want. It can work very well, be a bolt action pistol, or blow up in your face. It all depends how well you read the wiki.
This, and LFS would basically just be a brick of aluminum with a chisel. >Who the frick would chisel their own parts
The same sort of masochist that would unironically use LFS.
I propose the Windows XP of cartridges be 308 >considered outdated >good for literally anything >zoomies get mad you're not using the newest meme choice >autists get mad you're not using their oddball choice that performs marginally better >normies don't understand that it's superior to its "successors"
Wildcats in general are the Arch of cartridges, OP. 6.5 Creedmoor really isn't a wildcat anymore, neither is 6.5 Grendel, with both now seeing military service.
They're more like the RHEL/CentOS of cartridges in that way.
Nah, Arch would be an unloaded 12g shell.
Can stuff almost anything into it and make it work however you want, but it may not always be the most effective package for the task you want to do.
>What's the redhat of cartridge world? Some military ammo that has long shelf life?
Long shelf life and primers that only work properly with some specific rifle from 12 years ago?
If you're a paying enterprise customer, you can call their support number and the funny-accented voice will explain this to you for free.

Never implied that it is. If anything, many distros are probably more lax with security than properly configured Windows or OS X at this point.
There are some efforts to sandbox Linux desktop applications better, but they have pretty severe issues with performance and missing functionality. The legacy solutions for various things like drag & drop, screen capture, etc. only work because every desktop application has way too much access to things. Hell, it wasn't that long ago when you could sometimes write input into applications straight through the lock screen if your input device was weird enough. The legacy X stack was a bunch of dirty hacks that no amount of code could fully control.
The only reason why Linux desktops are acceptable in enterprise at all is the fact that most applications are sandboxed by the web browser.
>secondly stop wasting your time. Its the most precious finite resource you have.
Tell me more about the net gains you get from nerd flexing on a vietnamese basket weaving board?
You yourself are waisting your time. You're telling me to touch grass while browsing this shit hole while using Linux. You have no self reflection or anyway to detect irony.
Air guns are the Linux of guns. Niche, full of limitations, but enthusiasts swear by them.
Linux is more powerful but less useful, 6.5CM fits perfectly.
>literally the backbone of the internet
>niche
>limited
uhhh...
Also most phones, tablets and other portable smart devices everyone uses daily, as well as all super computers.
not Arch, brainlet.

more like creedless
What's the Gentoo caliber?
.260 Remington. 50fps faster than 6.5CM but only cheaper if you reload it.
Anything you can buy off the shelf at your local gun store in completed form is too accessible to be compared to Arch Linux.
nah its not simple, light weight, or flexible. ID say the .22LR or .22WMR fit that role.
The point here is that anyone who shoots 6.5 CM is going to tell you about it.
I would never say anything.
And clearly so will the people who obsess over it all, day with no one else mentioning it
what is the Kali Linux of calibers? I figure something that's typically used by both insurgents and militaries, I propose 5.45
5.45 is a good one
what's the arduino of cartridges?
If you reload it it is. Also there will never be a year of Linux because people would rather use a gui than a terminal. Fight me
The world already runs on linux, who cares about what the proles use as a bootloader for chromium (the actual operating system as far as the average person is concerned)
*sips*
ahhh... yeap, .357 sig is the arch linux of cartridges
What is the Ubuntu of cartridges? 9mm?
.40, useful, does the job, not everyone uses it, but its still common enough
I'm guessing Mint would be 9mm. Common as dirt, first thing a lot of people try, good enough for most things you'd want to use it for.
bruh 9mm is like one of the most common it would be Windows
What gun is comparable to Gentoo?
Some minmaxed custom build competition AR15 that performs 1% better than one ready-built out of the box
Gentoo would be a p80, you build it to whatever spec you want, with whatever parts you want. It can work very well, be a bolt action pistol, or blow up in your face. It all depends how well you read the wiki.

it's the windows 7 of rounds.

The Debian of cartridges
thats a Savage Mk.II mag, great choice anon. fantastic shooting iron for the money.
BSD is a Iver Johnson top break 32.
I propose the Windows XP of cartridges be 308
>considered outdated

>zoomies get mad you're not using the newest meme choice

30-06 is Win XP, 308 is Win 7. Windows 10 is 40S&W because its slow and pointless and made for glowBlack folk.

what would windows and ios be?
shut the frick up you spastic nerds
So because they lost their luster for you, no one else should play games on PC?
You have not a single right to tell me to have sex and touch grass when you yourself have said you use linux.
>secondly stop wasting your time.
And ordinary people do not share that view, so Linux will not fill their needs.
