this will easily be defeated by the PLAAF so why bother

>we in the top down arcade plane game age now boys
the only thing still missing is small hitbox technology
Hitboxes were an abstraction of RCS
200? Are they asking for a repeat of the F-22 troubles?
Apples and oranges. F22 was cut down to 200 but they wants more.
In this situations, the drones are part of NGAD. So essentially it’s 1200 combat aircraft. And since the upgrade processor suite of the F35 and along with the B21 will also be able to control the NGAD combat drones, it makes the need for a lot of “manned” NGAD quarterbacks less necessary.
Wanted more initially* weird cut off my bad
200 is the initial order.
>He also suggested an arrangement for the high-tech team: each fighter flying with a pair of autonomous wingmen.
My friend, read the article. That's 200 NGAD (well F-X/PCA) plus 400 CCA drones, another 600 CCA drones for F-35s. Also it's an estimated first purchase, there might be more later on.
They already flew a NGAD demonstrator. They are making very fast progress. Hopefully we get an official render soon or even a reveal.
I betting on a multi-axis no tail and a laser
These might be in service before the end of the decade. Mad
the world starts using 5th gen for the first time
meanwhile the us has probably developed 6th gen
>the us is trurly the master of war
May I see it?
Nope, just like how we knew the B-21 was on the way YEARS before they showed it to us.
>drones

Son of a bitch. At least the CCAs are supposed to be cheap, I guess.
Yea we basically already knew they would be $250-400m/each they've been prepping us for the price shock for years.
Makes sense if you think of the F-35 as cheap instead of the NGAD being expensive, which are both kinda true. Of course, the F-35 being cheap is also why countries other then the US are able to afford to own and operate them which is a big plus to both bringing down costs and making sure allies actually can do some strategic heavy lifting.
F-35 was never built to be a dominator, that is still the F-22's role until it's replaced by the NGAD. The fact that the US is so far ahead of all it's enemies that the low strike fighter in the high-low mix can run laps around everyone else's planes is just a fun bonus. You are more or less right with everything else, though in that last part, NGADs won't really be doing F-35 things unless you are referring to specifically the coordinating the CCA swarm and handling datalinks, since the F-35 is much more ground attack focused and will be used primarily to drop bombs on people once NGAD are in a high enough number to take over the battle management.
B-but the Mighty Dragon was supposed to bring an age of based Chinkness…
I want to make sure I understand the doctrine the USAF is envisioning here.
>push out the F-35 for short term dominance
>eventually they will serve as "cheap" manned shotcallers
>capable of providing targeting information for drone wingmen, naval vessels, and rocket artillery
>CCAs are cheaper and do the dangerous part of actually actively emitting/shooting things if possible
>NGAD as an optionally-manned forward penetrator to do F-35 things in places the F-35 can't go
Or something like that?
Yeah pretty much
Also F-16Vs and F-15EXs for anything low-tier. At least for the next ~20-30 years. F-35 will eventually take on this low tier role too.
Can’t wait till the Latinx pilots in these somehow lose to Iranian F14s
Iranian F-14s won't exist by the time the NGAD is operational, they'll have switched to their homebrew garbage-plane because the airframes on the F-14s are now pure metal fatigue held together by prayer and threats.
Their machine spirit will hold them together long enough to destroy the cringe sovless abominations
