Cedar Ridge? Stops at 100 but it seems to be the most based. No bi-metal/steel core rules and can use your own targets.

That's what their rules say on their website anyways. It's the closest range to my new place.

Been meaning to see a IDPA match at Cedar and check the range out. Hopefully not fuddly or rando mall ninja saturated. Ideal range: follow the rules and leave me alone

Well there you have it. If they host IDPA matches they can't be THAT fuddy/bad.

No, it's why I stopped going to any range. The idea of paying money to have some moron babysit me while I just try to sight in a gun is beyond annoying.

RifleGear has a great indoor range, but the ammo restrictions suck. Which is why I'm currently building my own outdoor range.

My club here in Houston is great. As long as you sign in, follow the few rules there are, and dont shoot our steel with steel core or penetrators, literally anything goes. I didn't realize how good I had it. I may just end up coming back to Houston on the weekends to shoot.

Like said, buy some land or find somebody who owns some who'll let you shoot on it. Land is kinda pricey right now, because of all the doctors and lawyers looking for private hunting/shooting grounds, but the way things are going, there unfortunately may be a lot of farmland going up for sale within the next couple years as a result of the drought and the fertilizer shortage.

wtf you must be driving like an absolute Black person because SA cops don't give a frick about traffic violations.

I once bought a car of CL and was driving it home w/o insurance or registration of course, passed a cop in a school zone that I didn't realize was active. When they checked my license the address on it was more than a year out of date which is illegal and I got off with a warning. That's literally the only time I've been pulled over there.

I swear you idiots go off say you followed the directions and then get passed when you're not allowed on the range because you clearly didn't follow the procedure. How fricking hard is it for you to read and/or follow directions. All you have to do is say the color in the middle of the safety rules and hold up the number of fingers it tells you to at the end.

              Title 7, Sec 229.02
REGULATION OF DISCHARGE OF WEAPON. A municipality may not apply a regulation relating to the discharge of firearms or other weapons in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the municipality or in an area annexed by the municipality after September 1, 1981, if the firearm or other weapon is:

              (1) a shotgun, air rifle or pistol, BB gun, or bow and arrow discharged:

              (A) on a tract of land of 10 acres or more and more than 150 feet from a residence or occupied building located on another property; and

              (B) in a manner not reasonably expected to cause a projectile to cross the boundary of the tract; or

              (2) a center fire or rim fire rifle or pistol of any caliber discharged:

              (A) on a tract of land of 50 acres or more and more than 300 feet from a residence or occupied building located on another property; and

I used to shoot pistols at a stack of logs on a half acre that backed up to 200 acre field before my neighborhood started to fill up. Local sheriff dept okayed it.

in helotes/SA there is an outdoor range called bullethole. It has a 300 outdoor rifle range, pistol, private stalls and you can rent 50 cals and machineguns.

Why the frick would you give them your patronage?

I didn't lol. As soon as they showed me the rope, I left and got my range fee refunded. The rope was so short I couldn't even stand while shooting.

Anons, if I started a private club in an area central to Austin and San Antonio, would this be something people would be interested in? The ONLY good range in the area?

I'm in the DFW area. I just want a range that lets me shoot my cheap FMJ .308 and isn't indoor. Is that too much to ask?

      Anonymous

Yes, which is why I have to drag my ass an hour out of town just to go shooting...

The only non-gay public range I knew of in DFW was out in Crowley, and I think the Pandemic killed it. My buddy loves B-tactical out in Royse City. He claims they let him shoot from his truck at the private bay. Sounds based, but I haven't been there yet myself. Royse City is like 90 minutes for me which is a b***h.

the fact people in the current year still dont know about the few great places to go mean you shouldnt bother being told the answer.

      OP

Thanks for the insight anon. The fact that I now pretty much know about every fricking range from Kerrville to Bastrp, Jourdanton to Waco and they ALL FRICKING SUCK means your standards must be pretty low as to what a good range is, so you're right, I probably don't want YOUR answer at this point.

The further away from the city you go generally the better.

Not "legal," but wonder about six shipping containers 3x2, sound proofed inside, ventilation fans, lighting, and stops downrange. If you had say five acres how long before they shut you down?

    Anonymous

Ranges don't generally allow rapid fire because dipshits send rounds to the moon trying to be Rambo.

For every one competent shooter there's a dozen newbies and five fricktards that do stupid shit.

My grandparents lived a mile away from a popular range and a round took out their A/C unit ... another went through their window.

This is why good ranges get closed down.

Buy your own land, vet everyone, or find a more private range that has standards.

this sucks, but is true. If the nfa ever gets repealed imigine the flood of videos of morons at public shoting ranges spraying the ceilings/sky. also your spacing irritates me.
