It’s another example of perfectly fine open bolt designs getting cucked to close bolt by the gaytf. People here b***h about the hughes amendment but the atf ruling on open bolt semis is nearly as bad for how many designs it relegated to jamomatic status.

I think these days most people just have zero idea of the history there anon, that it started as an open bolt automatic, didn't get the government orders expected, so they did a semi for the US civilian market but then ATF said TOO EZ TO CONVERT ;^) with their usual stuff and then the design had to be fricked with.

I heard open bolt is frick easy to convert to full auto, is that true ?

          Anonymous

Yeah I've heard that. I know there was an open bolt 10/22 which used the extractor as a firing pin. Bet it was a ton of fun. So I guess you can go the other way too?

          Anonymous

yes, usually just a bit of filing will do the trick

          Anonymous

Yes. The only thing you have to do is remove or file down the disconnecter, as a open bolt dosen't require timing due to a fixed firing pin and it only striking the primer when in battery.

            >only striking the primer when in battery
That's not how open bolt guns work though.

moron. Not all open bolts use a fixed firing pin.

Why wouldn't you use a fixed firing pin on an open bolt gun?

If you wanted to use something besides a straight blowback design.

                >besides straight blowback
Yes anon, because everyone knows the loads of pistols that use open bolt roller delayed blowback.

you know there are open bold guns other than pistols and SMGs right? BAR fires from an open bolt and is locked breech.

Yeah, but we're talking about pistol caliber open bolt guns.

To prevent out of battery discharges.
A hammer on the bolt that hits the mouth of the barrel that pushes the firing forwards is a common safety mechanism on better quality SMGs.

                >ooohhhh so thats how they do it

they use a frickin transfer bar, how quaint. the star z-63s answer was a floating firing pin and a few detents to prevent accidental discharge and out of battery detonations

It wasn't necessary on the thompson, which is why they got rid of it in the M1A1

I read the closed bolt is relatively easy to convert too
Although it will become even less reliable

There is no blanket ban on open bolt guns. ATF only declared a few specific open bolt pistols as machine guns. The only reason they aren't made is that the gun industry just assumes that ATF will ban any new designs submitted to them so they just don't make them. But no one has tried in a while.

TEC-9 can be reliable. The biggest problem is that 90% of the mags for them are all aftermarket and none of them work well. If you use it with actual factory mags they work a lot better.

did the morons really design an open bolt gun that you couldn't lock the bolt back? Does it not have a cut out like a sten or grease gun?

External lock would be something like a Hillary hole

On second thought that's moronic since that would be an internal lock, it probably just didn't ship with a cable lock like every gun now does.

The handgun portion of the 94 AWB was written specifically to target this gun. Feinstein got booty blasted when they slightly altered it and kept selling it as the "After Ban" AB-10.

This thing was popular as frick on the NYC area streets back then. It was also quite the piece of shit and anyone who can would have chosen an UZI or MAC-10/11 instead.

I owned a DC9 and AB10 back when they were like $200 and with the standard mags they work ok I guess, they still jam but not like they do with stendos.
Aside from that they are about as accurate as any other pistol nothing special, they aren't particularly easy to shoot because they are extremely unbalanced. They also feel incredibly cheap even keltecs feel more durable than them.
There really is 0 reason to own one I sold mine years ago and don't regret it a bit, they aren't even that fun to shoot, maybe if it was full auto and had a stock it would be more fun but sadly unless you got an SOT you ain't doing that.
Basically just buy an Uzi, much more fun, reliable, accurate, and doesn't feel like shit in your hands.

I've owned 2 tec 9's and they were both total pieces of garbage. One was the first gen with the milled sights and the second had the more common stamped sights

Couldn't get either one to feed reliably. The newer model ended up having a crack in the plastic frame near the front pin. The old one would sometimes seperate the case from the bullet somehow during feeding and spray powder everywhere. I really wish they were functional guns because they have such a nice aesthetic but heed my warning unless you buy one as a wall hanger they are not fun guns.
