Could I pitch up a tarp with no hiking poles and just wood sticks I find around or would that shred my tarp.
Don't wanna go around with poles, I think they are moronic.

A thread died for this dumb shit.
you're dumb shit
Yeah probably /larp/general #387
>tarp thread
You're in the larp general.
>Could I pitch up a tarp with no hiking poles and just wood sticks I find around or would that shred my tarp.
Yes. People have been doing similar things for thousands of years.
Most tarps (even off the shelf from Lowe's or Home Depot) come with grommets around the perimeter that will protect the material from bungee cord hooks, tie-down hardware, poles, and sticks.
But like, you're clearly real new to all this, if you're asking this kind of question. Let's hope there are none of these exist in your area:
>mosquitoes, midges, gnats, et al.
>small hoodrat wildlife that will just roll up into your shit
>strong breezes
>sand
>rain that doesn't just fall straight down
I mean yeah, you can cover the entrance to your tarpaulin lean-to with something else, but then you might as well just bring a tent.
>mosquitoes, midges, gnats, et al.
camp ontop of a hill, less bugs.
>strong breezes
>sand
>rain that doesn't just fall straight down
Just turn that shit in a direction not facing all that bullshit. Simple.
People seriously undestimate the versatility of a diamond fly.
>Just turn that shit in a direction not facing all that bullshit. Simple.
Just bring a tent and not have to worry about bugs at all, not have to turn the entire thing every which way when the wind changes, have more flexibility in where and how you can set up, and also enjoy a faster, easier setup process.
THAT is simple. 250g in weight savings due to not needing tent poles and being able to use your meme sticks instead is the height of moronation.
Tarpgays are LARPgays, plain and simple. You think you are being economical, minimalistic, and practical, but actually you haven't thought through jack fricking shit. Your "lived experience" (if you've ever actually been outside to obtain any) is utterly delusional.
tarp setups usually weigh more than tents these days anon. most tarp users do it for campsite selection flexibility, or the former plus not liking hammocks.
>less
Fewer Mr. ESL, and that doesn’t mean zero.
>just point it toward the wind
Wind changes direction, now you’re fricked.
If you had any kind of experience you’d already know this.
Then change it again, or better yet set an A-frame out of your tarp. Think stupid.
A tarp weighs a hell of a lot less than a full tent and takes up far less space.
put some cloth, a sock, glove, etc. on the part that is in contact with the tarp if you're worried that it might damage the fabric
>Could I pitch up a tarp with no hiking poles and just wood sticks I find around or would that shred my tarp.
yes but look for tarps with reinforcements at these points (itll be marketed as for trekking poles) because it will shorten the lifespan of your tarp, the lifespan will be fine though.
>just wood sticks
most of the time, not always, some places there won't be wood sticks the right size or at all. you can just buy a little carbon collapsible 3 section tent pole thing for like $40 i think they cost usually? they make them for people like you who don't like trekking poles.
note that if you do use a stick or a carbon pole you lose the biggest advantage of using trekking poles with a tarp: you have to leave your tarp and get wet to tension it when it sags, trekkingpolegays can just telescope their pole and stay dry from inside. that alone is worth the weight to just carry 1 trekking pole and not use it IMO.
just do what i do and bring 1 trekking pole. buy a "z" style folding telescoping pole. $30-50 on alibaba.
telescoping pole for ezmode tarp living
walking stick for steep mountain declines
i would describe it more as using a trekking pole or carbon pole extends your tarp's life though, not that using a stick shortens it. does that make sense op?
Why are there two tarp camping threads right next to each other in the catalogue?
I know this is going to sound very sad to burgers and I am ashamed for asking, but is it illegal to use a camo tent in eurocuckistan? I want to buy a camo tent to have better chances not being found in the woods when I'm putting up a tent, because it's illegal, so I imagine that employing camo colors in order not to get discovered must be also illegal. I am definitely going to do this anyway because, well, everything I'll do will be illegal so I may as well play the camo game.
most camo tents i've found are gimmicky shit. i too want a decent camo tent, even if its just a drab olive green. I get why most tents are brightly colored, its so search and rescue can find idiots. but yeah, the best I've found isn't a tent but hennessy hammoks are pretty inconspicuous.
as for illegal, probably not.
