They are probably trying to larp as some kind of professional army. The only way they can defeat IS is by terrorizing them right back, killing their family members and shit. The strongest military in the world couldnt conventionally win afghanistan, what makes them think they can do it? Especially after more and more of their fighters get bored of 9-5 and join IS.

The Taliban are Afghanistan. The tribes, the mafia, the clans, the military, the police. ISIS is just another foreign invader over from Arabia and Pakistan and a few deluded or paid members that are actual Afghans.

It's not Afghans vs locals it is Local Afghans vs. Foreign fricks.
And so far the Afghans managed to prolong these fights until the foreigners left them alone again.

The taliban itself doesn't seem to consider pakis as foreign considering how much they shelter and support the TTP

US to establish formal relations with the new taliban afghanistan when?

Journalists have already reported that the Taliban is seeking friendship with the USA and legal recognition as the rulers of Afghanistan. Their ambitions are to become a nuclear power like Pakistan. A lot of American gear in that propaganda vid, maybe even American tactics.

If its true and they are seeking friendship it's more out of desperation. A shithole doenst automatic improves when the occupation force is leaving the country. The Taliban now have a major vibe like the Warlords before the Taliban rule in the 1990s. Won the war but no idea how to rule a country.

And if the Americans seeking so called friendship with them, its more about keeping ISKP in Afghanistan and not turning this into AQ 2.0

I don't think it's desperation. The US has a history of generously gifting money and weapons to regional powers

                Not regional powers but allies.

Against who? Afghanistan is a good example they dont. The Northern Alliance didn't get any weapons supplies until the war break out in 2001, only non-lethal and intelligence.

I'm not a commie, but the Viet Cong knew their shit when it came to guerilla warfare. That's why the US military studies them.

I'm not an Afghan nationalist, but the Taliban knew their shit when it came to guerilla warfare. That's why the US military studies them.

ISIS is just crazy, even to the Taliban.

I am a Patriot, and the Patriots of 1776 knew this shit when it came to guerilla warfare. That's why the US military and special forces exists.

But much has changed since woodland raids on supply wagons with muzzleloaders.

maybe it would be good if they tried it.
sometimes you just have to shake shit up. inertia gets you in bad loops. nail a crack dealer to a crucifix, just see how people take it. if it doesn't work out, hey just a mistake, we'll do better next time. as you were, citizen.
