Taliban (military experts gtfih)

>defeats the combined forces of both America and all its NATO allies with nothing more than WW1-era Lee Enfields, old Chinese AKs and IEDs made from plastic bottles and shit you can find at a hardware store
They literally rendered NATO weapons obsolete with their insurgent tactics. And shit it all out within a matter of 20 years.

Are you dennis or some other moron? the taliban never beaten american forces even at the height of american presence in the region(2012-2014). They literally just waited in their caves or run to Pakistan while consistently getting killed by american forces everytime they get out. America stopped doing major operations in Afghanistan after 2014 and left everything to the ANA since america realized they can't be there forever. After 2014, the goal was to train the ANA while also going after al-Qaeda(and also ISIS with their SOF while not reallydoing anything against the taliban. Majority of american troops already pulled out and there were barely a few thousand left in the country before the pull out. The taliban did horribly against American forces and were essentially suppressed in 2012 before they were able to rebuild themselves after america stopped doing COIN operations against them and the ANA being too moronic in maintaining what america has left for them.

When America came into Afghanistan in 2001, there were 20 million Afghans. When they left in 2021, there were 40 million Afghans. The frickers literally doubled in population, there were so many kids that every family could spare 4-5 suicide bombers. How are you supposed to fight against that?

        Anonymous

Should've not conducted humanitarian aid. ISAF feeding the little goblins is the entire reason their population doubled.

        Anonymous

Because they were getting western aid and procurements. Thanks to western aid, their population boom. However, it can bite them back because once the U.S. pulls out, the aid stops and there are more people than they can produce food. Afghanistan is about to suffer a big famine unless the west is able to give them food.

This is a big part of it, but the other half of the equation comes down to race and clan. The Taliban isn't an Afghan movement, it's a Pashtun one, and people from the regions it controls will never accept a system in which they might be governed by non-Pashtuns or even considered equal to them. It's also a country dominated by clans and they'll work with one another to achieve battle objectives but will never accept peacetime governance by other clans or non-clan people either, especially on the local level. The Taliban basically leaves them to their own devices on a local level except when they need to put together a fighting force to repel an invader or whatever so they're much more amenable to that than a western-style national government that enforces laws, regulations, etc. in clan areas.

    >coalition deaths: 3,500
    >taliban deaths: 53,000
the taliban didn't defeat NATO, it defeated the ANA after we left. it's like if some japanese guys stranded on islands since ww2 came back and overthrew the japanese government, their own countrymen, and then acted like they defeated the allies. and then morons like you would make threads like "atomic bombs are shit they lost every war they were used in"

I get the point of what you're saying but this doesn't change the fact that the coalition was incapable of governing the country or controlling most of the country. The low casualties among coalition forces are actually more of a proof that risk averse operational attitudes actually contributed to the Taliban's eventual victory. If the coalition had either compromised with the Taliban or actively hunted it rather than staying near the major provincial centres during the early part of the war the Taliban would have never been able to launch its 2006 counter offensive. Conversely, the amount of money coalition governments spent on prosecuting the war meant that there was less of a reason for them to continue the war, hence the eventual ISAF drawdown that ended in 2014. TL;DR: there was no way the coalition could have ever achieved its goal of a democratic Afghanistan. The Afghans are a fiercely independent and armed people, and the majority of them would never side with what they see as foreign occupiers.

It was more to do with the fact that our dumbfrick leaders started ANOTHER WHOLE GODDAMN WAR in the middle of Afghanistan conflict that diverted resources, attention, and talent. That and nation building a backwater like Afghanistan is a stupid idea that would take at minimum half a century or more

Trump was the one that initiated the pull out with the DOHA agreement. The DOHA agreement was him offering taliban fighters in exchange for a cease fire along with american forces pulling out of the region. Biden just simply followed with some delays and mess ups along the way.

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/US%E2%80%93Taliban_deal
The doha agreement was signed by trump, though. It accelerated the collapse of the Afghan government because the U.S. basically pulled their military support for the ANA, leaving them without U.S. air power. As a result, the taliban increased their attacks and advances due to the ANA not having the only thing that was keeping the taliban at bay.

Military operations can only achieve military ends. The reality is that defeating an insurgency requires approaches that are multipronged and in many circumstances may be completely unachievable in the reality on the ground.

Most IEDs were made from artillery shells. Foreign explosives were the other main source.
