They're ugly as sin, but they're handy little guns that can easily mount an optic, and reliably kill a durr. Wouldn't be my choice, but you could do worse.

It will work fine for hunting. But it will always be more expensive and probably not as good at the role as a cheap poly stock bolt action. Do what you want though. Metagays are gay and doubly so irl.

easy to carry and cycles reliably, as well as saving space since no detachable mags. easily re-modified for different trips. important factors to consider because you're interested in hunting

I'm just saying the necessity of a follow up shot with 45-70 is a skill issue. So it's not a good practical argument unless you're getting in pvp engagements with it, or maybe hunting hog hordes.

Only downside is that it's hard to cycle if you're in a tight space.
Lying on the ground, seated and resting the gun (such as when you are sighting in the scope), or shooting from inside a vehicle if you're a degenerate, are all more complicated to cycle the action than a bolt.

      Anonymous

      >lying on the ground
Have you considered simply tilting the rifle sideways so as to increase clearance and ease of cycling?
But yeah point taken. Like others have mentioned, it's great for hunting. There are better options, but for just slaying deer, a lever gun is not a bad option. My old man in picrel last November; .357 Henry

Only things you “need” are an ar15, glock19, mossberg500, and a savage axis. Thats really it and even the shotty and boltgun are pushing it for most people.Trying to come up with reasons or justification that you need it is cope. If you want it buy it, it looks really cool and fun. If it’s gonna hurt you financially then just save longer. This coming from a guy who always wanted to have unique or different stuff only to realize parts availability/cost and aftermarket really take the fun out of stuff, trust me my first gun was a steyr s9-a1 and first car was the plastic panel avalanche. But! All hobbies are expensive and if you like it and you want it then frick yea go for it.

there is no rational use case for an AR-15, you just say that because a YouTuber told you to.

        Anonymous

I can agree with that. I would argue the rifle would be better from a home defense standpoint but the glock would work fine in about any scenario a person living a normal life would need. I was thinking in an all bases covered sense but if you were only going to have one the glock does exactly what you need it too.

        Anonymous

The purpose of a home defence weapon is to defend your home. The rational thing to do is to buy the weapon that is most effective in that role. If that's an AR-15 or equivalent rifle then so be it. If you poknt a gun at someone and then pull tbe trigger that is because you want them dead. That is the purpose of the gun, not sports or any other excuse. Ofnsomeone breaks into your home it is not your prerogative to first determine of theyve just come to steal the tv or are her to rape and murder your family. Your prerogative is to eliminate the threat as quickly as possible. Why do you come across as though you don't particularly want people to effectively defend their homes?

I have an AR for HD almost any other gun would do just as well, but you only think
          >errybuddy needs an AR so you can kill duh gubbermint
because a guntoober told you that. it's a moronic weapon choice for civil resistance because you aren't light infantry and have no heavy weapons to supplement it, like the militaries that choose AR type weapons for their infantry weapons do. you stupid fricking clown.

      >Having a shotgun is pushing it for most people
Shotguns are by far the most versatile guns out there. Can hunt literally anything with them. Super fun to shoot clays. Pretty good for home defense. If you want to boil it down to the fewest guns you "need" to fill roles, shotgun is certainly at the top of the list

        Anonymous

My reasoning is that the pistol is smaller with larger capacity, probably all ranges allow it, and you can cc it. The shotgun is extremely versatile and i think circumstances dictate which is better. Ie rural hunting lifestyle vs typical suburban to city dweller lifestyle.

          Anonymous

Shotguns are cheaper, simpler manual of arms, and easier to shoot under duress. Not to mention they're the least restricted firearm across the US.

            Anonymous

I still think that if the question is “I can only have one kind of gun” the pistol is better. It does everything “good enough” and you can cc it. But I’m also the guy up top that said get the pistol, rifle, shotgun, and bolt action and you won’t “need” for anything else. This is unrelated but how much of an advantage for hunting does the field and stream mossberg barrel pair have over just the 20in persuader model? Does it actually matter as long as you change your chokes appropriately? Old guy at dicks back in the day told me the persuader was only good for hd and no good for anything else. I just wrote it off as fudlore at the time.

Depends on use case and distance mainly. I use my Winchester 120 Home defense for just about everything but I am left wanting when the fox squirrels are in the tops of pines or the doves have their eyes turned on. In reality short of goose hunting there's not much you'll be out range on with an 18-20" barrel if you're patient.

You don't need to justify any particular gun. It's your right to own them. If you think you will use a lever gun then buy a lever gun, you don't have to justify any of your purchases to anyone.

Do you want one in 357 so that you can share ammo with a revolver and just carry one type with you when out in the woods? There's a perfectly good reason to justify a lever gun to yourself.

Do you want to fire a specific round at a specific target that is most commonly shot out of lever guns?

Do you want to look like a space cowboy and have fun at the range?

All of these are perfectly good reasons to buy a lever gun if you can afford a lever gun and want a lever gun. You don't ever have to explain them to anyone else either.

I live in the UK where we do not have a right to bare arms. We do not have a right to carry anything at all for the purpose of self defence and we do not have the rights to defend pur homes with lethal force unless absolutely necessary. It's all on a case by case basis.

I will refer you now to the case of Sarah Everard. She was walking home when she was pulled over by an off duty police officer named Wayne Cousins. Cousins had previously been reported for indecent exposure and had complaints made about his behaviour and sexual conduct. His nickname was the rapist. Wayne Cousins flashed his warrant card and put Sarah into his car where he raped her, murdered her and burned her body. If Sarah has been allowed to carry amd had been carrying even a little pocket revolver then she would still be alive today and the monster, Wayne Cousins, would be dead. Unfortunately Sarah and I live in the UK. That's just one case. There have been cases were intruders break into a house, rob, rape and beat to death elderly women for a few bits of cheap israeliteellery. Mostly these cases make local news and disappear. We live under a tyrannical regime. It's not out and out boxcarts here but it's tyranny nonetheless

Don't EVER let anyone try to make you justify your rights.

Went hog hunting on private land. They dont allow ARs. We went drive style. Couple of guys pick a spot, fan out and flush the hogs out. Hogs hear and smell well, so you never get too close. Once they sense you they run. A lever action is the perfect gun for this.
