SWAT

How comparable are SWAT teams both in terms of overall competency and in terms of their tactics techniques and procedures to SOF and infantry in regards to both CQB and hostage rescue?

Guy on right set himself on fire, he's clearly immobilized. For some reason the guy on the left thinks he's still a threat.

They don't even come close SOF.

Some do, but they're universally rare and only found with agencies big enough to afford to provide constant trainings and call outs (so FBI, LAPD, NYPD, etc)

Even the best trained SWAT teams in major cities don't come close to real deal OPERATORS OPERATING OPERATIONALLY but they could probably hang with legit infantry door kickers.

I watched some Delta guys on a podcast absolutely trash the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, calling them a bunch of coddled amateurs who needed to be babysat like civilian straps whenever HRT went with them on any hit in Iraq. They also said HRT weren’t even close to Delta’s abilities in CQB which is pretty woeful considering FBI HRT is who will be sent to save you should something happen in the US.kgnk

I read a book by a former SEAL that joined the US Marshals. He said the Marshals barely trained at all. The PT was laughable and they barely practiced marksmanship.

Why the hell would they be doing raids in Iraq?

It builds relationships between services and it lets them get a little credit from their bosses. A former CIA agent wrote about how agencies used to hate each other because they were all fighting for the same funding. And then they figured out if they work together, they can all claim credit and keep their jobs. So if you can tell your boss you went overseas and did a raid, you'd look really cool. And Delta Force benefits by building relationships with the FBI so they can work together on future missions.

i find it pretty odd that a delta guy was trashing HRT, that seems more like something navy seals would do. delta is usually very professional, so even if FBI HRT wasn't performing up to delta standards in iraq, i would expect to hear something more like "HRT is great, they did their best in an environment outside of their training regimen." especially since delta helped found and train HRT in the first place.

Why the hell would they be doing raids in Iraq?

i definitely remember news of FBI HRT going into iraq and afghanistan. kinda weird but not the craziest thing.

Last I heard of HRT is the dumbfricks who ignored every single safety protocol while treating every branch like shit in a cross-trainng operation at Quantico and jumping to their deaths on a boat out the helicopter because they knew better and couldn't be bothered not to be cowboy morons.

            I think everyone hates them.

i dunno mang. last i heard of HRT was just them doing joint secret squirrel shit in iraq and afghanistan 2015-2016. usually it's the navy seals you hear about, so maybe they do dumb shit but it just gets drowned out by the sheer moronation of the seals.

Some SWAT teams are very high quality, but not many.

When the federal government was handing out surplus military equipment like candy in the early 2010s, every police force from Bumfrickville, Iowa to Shitstain, New Hampshire decided they were going to also have a 'SWAT team' consisting of 300-pound cops cosplaying.

Unironically worse than your average gang banger. Dad’s a local sheriff and some of the “SWAT” people are obese 50 year old women. Remember local sheriffs, which constitute 90 percent of “SWAT” like picrel, have literally zero hiring skills or experience necessary. Just look at supposed “elite” SWAT like the Marshalls, all obese old people standing around in kit.

      >Just look at supposed “elite” SWAT like the Marshalls, all obese old people standing around in kit.

i wouldn't call us marshals elite, or at least nowadays. what they are is specialized in mostly support roles. remember they do run the fugitive apprehension programs and prison transfer, witness protection and some bodyguard shit.

as for old and obese, i know a fair amount of former SOF that are either too old, too injured, or just decided to get out of the military go into fed agencies like the us marshals. these fed agencies tend to have a lot of former high-speed low drag SOF that don't look like it but they're able to pass on and make use of their experience state-side.

I think he means the SWAT team within the Marshals. I've seen some fat ones.

HRT is on the level as an avg rifle unit, not comparable in the slightest to SOF or the better rifle units

Your average SWAT team member is a beat cop who went through an academy that had roughly 40 hours of firearms training. They shoot qualification once a year, might get a little more range time than that through their department, but most of their training is up to them. Once they have been on patrol for a few years they will try out for SWAT which will probably have at least some physical and marksmanship standards that they must meet. They will then go to a basic SWAT school, generally around 40 hours, with some kind with minimum standards for instruction generally set by their state's DOJ. Once on the team, they will probably train somewhere from 8-16 hours per month, but this will vary greatly depending on the size of the department and budget restraints.

Your average infantryman probably gets more trigger time and spends more time training due to the nature of their job and the more significant amount of time not on deployment (in this case patrol). Once you get into more specialized infantry roles such as Rangers, MARSOC, Army special forces, SEALS, etc. the divide begins to open up even more.

    >SOF is going to get in the fight, kill all the target and save the hostage while setting the building on fire.
    >SWAT is cowering behind their apc waiting for the mass shooter to run out of ammo while keeping out the public to protect the killer and killing random civs on their property.

SWAT teams vary greatly because of funding, but even the best SWAT teams don't compare to SOF.

Depends on the agency. Big city SWAT like LAPD or NYPD or certain FBI field offices could be considered peers with SOF as far as cqb goes, but most “SWAT” teams across the country are part time gigs filled by patrols officers with maybe a slightly higher standard of fitness and marksmanship.
