S&W M&P FPS POS FU

Anyone gonna buy this piece of garbage? Would you get one in 10mm?
Should I hate myself for thinking it looks kinda cool, almost like a mini MG42 carbine?

It fixes the main problem with the sub2000, optic mounting. Apart from that it's just another direct blowback 9mm. Folding is cool, but there are plenty of guns that will fit in the same space that don't need to be folded.

As a lefty, my primary complaint with the kel-tec is unburnt powder to the face and all the gas. This looks to come with a pretty intense cowling behind the ejection port that would fix the problem.

Honestly, I think they looked at all the problems with the kel-tec and addressed them which is pretty smart.

      >It fixes the main problem with the sub2000, optic mounting.
Yeah, but then it adds the problems of being much larger when folded, having a non-adjustable stock, having no way to run backup sights, and not running Glock mags

Why couldn't you run backup sights?

Because the pic rail only goes back as far as the handguard. How are you going to use a rear aperture that far forward?

Good point. I think you could get away with using the large aperture. I think the question is does the intended use for this gun require that it has buis?

Plenty of guns have rear sights far from the eye.
Scout rifles, machine guns, shotguns with rifle sights, AKs. I'm sure you could put back up sights on it, but not sure it's needed.

aren't you putting standard handgun rear sights at arms distance? just do that and it would have a long sight radius

I will say the hinge looks significantly more robust than kektecs. I've actually seen two different Sub2000s on gunbroker that had been JB Welded so that they could no longer fold because the hinge/latch had broken.

I like the idea of a Sub-2000 that will not explode.

I hate way the hinge and latch mechanism look on the side of the gun. I know why they did it and it makes sense, but Jesus it looks like one of the stupid gimmick nerf guns.

How the frick is the Kel-tec the better looking gun?

To zoomers everything has to be loathed and ridiculed as a substitution of civility and culture. It's an extension of their Black person worship.

If that thing comes in 10mm and doesn't immediately break because it was designed for 9mm, I might be down. The problem is that it takes M&P mags and I'm not an M&P guy.

There was a comment or two in the previous thread that may be relevant. I can't speak to the validity, but I'd certainly research carefully.

      https://desuarchive.org/k/thread/57328915/

      > tl;dr - the blowback design may not be able to handle 10mm class without tearing up the brass; the design may need adjustment, IF this is a real problem & IF it can be fixed at all

I want a definitive answer on its capability to digest ten thousand plus rounds of 9mm P+, and then I'm probably pretty interested. I get why the 16" barrel is necessary to get this initial offering out the door, but that's a lot of barrel to be pushing plain vanilla 9mm out of. If I must use a 16" barrel, I definitely want to run spicy rounds through it. And, I'd be really happy with that.

Overall, I like it for a bunch of reasons and am considering it seriously. The P+ question is my only deal-breaker. If it's designed to also handle +P+, all the better even though I'd rarely or never use it. Just would be comfy to know the engineering was rated for it.

I think that comes full circle back to the 10mm question. If it digests +P+ in 9mm, there should be no issues with a 10mm version. The P+ & +P+ in 10mm would become a new question for those who think they need or want it.

Bottom line for me is, if this turns out to be My Raifu, I'm finally going to invest in a 9mm reloading setup so I can shoot it a lot. I'll put irons on top and hang a red dot underneath. I'd only shoot it over 100 meters for funsies & plinking, never for serious. I imagine 80-90% it would be 50 meters +/-20-ish or so.

Not really interested. It's a blowback and I have cans. If they come out with factory short barrels then maybe, but it doesn't seem worthwhile to bother with SBRing it when I can just do another lower instead.

No, these are for poors. S&W is stepping up their game and reaching different parts of the market. It would be cool if they went full PSA tier, they at least have the reputation for reliability. Their 5.7 shits on PSA's, and while their bullpup shotgun is ugly it's got to be more reliable than the KSG, that's a low standard to beat though. Maybe they're just saying "listen here noob" and blowing some of these shittier American companies out of the market.

Ngl, I kind of want it. It doesn't seem like it has any major reliability issues, I already have M&P mags, I think it looks kinda neat, idgaf about the folding aspect of it, would honestly buy it if it was a non-folder as well. Can't really see why people are hating on it so much.

As much as it'd be nice if this came in 10mm or 5.7, and as quickly as I'd drop some change on it if it did, I think it'd be very attractive in .22. Sure, it wouldn't be particularly utilitarian, at least not in a way that hasn't already be done. But it'd be fun.

Huh. Possibly this is the carbine that could save .30 Super. The 16" barrel in particular should go a long way toward optimizing the potential for the cartridge.

I've not personally been interested in .30 Super, mostly because discussion almost always revolves around handguns. But a carbine, and acarbine like this with magazines in the grip, it's almost like a hybrid bullpup. If a magazine holds 23 rounds of 9mm comfortably, I'd think it should hold about 33 or 35 rounds of .30 Super. Suppress it (as best as possible) and we're flirting with game-changing territory.

Alternatively, I wonder how this gun would perform with 9mm subsonic. If I could push something like a 150 or 165 gr bullet out the muzzle at barely subsonic and with a suppressor, that could be a very quiet, hard-hitting mofo at normal self-defense ranges out to about 50 yards. That would make quite the plinker and home defense goto.
