They figured out that opening up your country as a shooting gallery is a bad idea. The ones that showed up with a command structure got folded in (Dudayev, Free Russia, Ichkerian, etc). The rest formed little platoon and company sized units and attached themselves to Uke units on an ad-hoc basis.
Honestly, the Ukrainians don't need manpower. They have tons of willing volunteers waiting to join in their own country. What limits them is lack of the officers and cadre to staff the command, specialist, and leadership roles.
Qualified vollys want to join but few have the language skills to integrate into the larger whole so they get turned away. AFU thinks it is better to just do it all in-house.

The big crunch for staff was in the very beginning. They have the ball rolling now with troop rotations, officer/NCO training (abbreviated), battlefield promotions, and whatnot. They have already assembled 15 or so new combat brigades out of reservists. I don't think we are done seeing the AFU grow either. It just takes time to absorb all of the people who want to fight.

They figured out that opening up your country as a shooting gallery is a bad idea. The ones that showed up with a command structure got folded in (Dudayev, Free Russia, Ichkerian, etc). The rest formed little platoon and company sized units and attached themselves to Uke units on an ad-hoc basis.
Honestly, the Ukrainians don't need manpower. They have tons of willing volunteers waiting to join in their own country. What limits them is lack of the officers and cadre to staff the command, specialist, and leadership roles.
Qualified vollys want to join but few have the language skills to integrate into the larger whole so they get turned away. AFU thinks it is better to just do it all in-house.
