Stripped Screw Removal

I fucked up. Every attempt I’ve made to remove this damn screw has made things worse

I’ve tried hot glueing the bit to make it fit better, the drill screw removal kit, locking pliers, and a dremel to make a notch for a flathead

This is what the screw originally looked like

I genuinely don’t know it even got stripped. I was just using a screwdriver by hand to unscrew it and the torx notches fucking broke

I know I’m retarded. How do I fix this?

It’s not a lie. I literally went and bought a drill to remove this fucking screw. I didn’t have one when I first tried to unscrew it

Get a drill bit, drill it out. If you fuck it up you'll have to tap it to a larger size and deal with it.

Would it be better to use a dremel to cut a slot for a knife or something so I can loosen it?

Drilling hasn’t really worked well for me so far

keep telling yourself that and you may start to believe it

why would I even lie about this?

Anon PLEASE. Are you saying you thought of a knife before a flathead screwdriver?
You very well could use a dremel with one of the little baby zipdiscs but please for the love of the Lord use a screwdriver if you want to do so.

at this point in time he needs to hire a professional, he is only going to make things worse, he claims to have stripped a torx screw with a hand screwdriver

Kek no I tried already with a flathead and it was too wide even when the screw was less blown out. Now it definitely is too wide for any flatheads I have

        >cut a slot for a
        SCREWDRIVER
        yes
fill the divit with crazy glue and let it dry whole you're at it, so when you cut the slot it can go straight across and give you a bit more purchase

            >work for this
all he's doing is pulling out the screw and throwing it away
all the torque will be applied to the metal
the glue is just to help keep it in place by bridging the void

I stripped a screw building an AR (was the biggest set back of the entire project, lol, kill me), nothing worked to get it out (not even that aerospace grip solution stuff), but using a dremel and cutting a slot to then use with a flat screwdriver/bit did the trick, you will end up cutting into the surrounding material but as long as cosmetic damage doesn't matter it should be fine

I don’t really care if there’s cosmetic damage, it’s all going to be covered up by a truck bed rail afterwards. I would just prefer the threads to be intact

Okay, then I have one last idea, tomorrow go to either lowes or home depot and get a pair they look like pic related, you should be able to get them to lock on the outside of the screw if you are careful and take your time. You should set them so they are really tight on the screw. Then you can start by making a quarter turn, then release them, re grip and make another quarter turn, do this until the screw moves freely and you can take it out by hand.

oh and lay them flat against the bed/tailgate/whatever of the truck, don't hold them in line with the screw picrel

To add on to what this anon is saying, if you've never used vise grips, close them on what you're planning to grip, open them up and tighten it more then close it again on the piece. It should give you some resistance then snap secure. You do not have to have a hell of a time trying to make it death pinch the thing.

I broke off a shitty charging handle in my bolt after a cartridge came apart in my chamber. Now I have a shit aluminum screw in my bolt and I can't attach a charging handle. Making a side charging AR was a mistake.

This is the next step. The drill bits are reversed. If you’re lucky, the drill bit will grab the screw and it will inthread. If not, you use the extractor. You’re supposed to use them with a tap handle. A cheaper one that you can slightly tap with a hammer as you unscrew works a little better.

Failing that, figure out what size the screw is and use a regular drill bit for the next size up and tap new threads for a larger screw.

It looks too small for a Helicoil.

Hammer in a torx, then impact.

get your dremel and cut the flat notches in better. then take your flat screwdriver or a sharp cold chisel and tap with a hammer on one half of the head in counterclockwise direction. also soak with pb blaster/deep creep/krill oil. all else fails keep drilling with larger and larger size drill until the head pops off. good luck anon.
