    >And earlier this month the British government issued a procurement notice through the International Fund for Ukraine. The notice said the UK was inviting expressions of interest for buying “long-range strike” rockets or missiles by May 4, and potential suppliers would be contacted after a month. The notice stipulated “missiles or rockets with a range 100-300km; land, sea or air launch. Payload 20-490kg.”
So are they giving them the export versions listed on wikipedia then? 250km? That's just about enough to hit Kerch at current borders. Definitively in range if they're on jets since they'll be able to breach the front to launch then GTFO, at least in theory.

      Anonymous

The UK might buy the naval version of Storm Shadow (MCDN) that has the solid rocket motor and then supply it on trucks like Brimstone. It would probably be more survivable than a Ukrainian aircraft running a SAM and fighter gauntlet.

        Anonymous

I don't know about that, MdCN is French, they make the boosters. The way this is worded makes it sound like this is a one-pony show, only Britain is involved. I personally have my doubts Macron's government would sign off on such a thing. Jet launch seems the most likely to me.
Besides, I was shitposting about the Bridge, I don't think they would hit it right off. There's many more valuable targets, and the could hit them from well away with the current borders. For example, they could hit supply depots within Luhansk and Donetsk without even getting close to the front.
I think the Crimean Bridge would be saved for if they have success in a southern counteroffensive, all bets are off if they retake Melitopol, as that would cut off all of Kherson and they would have a green route to strike from.

The French quite literally declared Wagner a terrorist organisation recently I think they might, but my money is on air launch with a bolt on droppable fuel tank maybe if we're worried about SAMs, or the double range version.
Also I'm curious if they can hit that Lugansk bridge, the one supplying most of the LPR and DPR.

It took France literally over a year to declare them a terrorist organisation despite Wagner literally falseflagging a massacre and blaming the French for it. The French have tried - desperately - to please Putin and it has taken fricking ages for them to do anything. I know VGH JVPITER memes but Macron needs to understand this isn't the 18th century any more and both France is a bit players in geopolitics. Other nations have. The fact Macron is sticking his nose into shit like the Taiwan issue and going 'lol USA is on their own if they go to war ecks dee' and all the shit over the Iraq War I dunno why the Americans give them the time of day.

Maybe, but the whole long-range missile thing is a whole other kettle of fish. Me saying that isn't to decry the Frogs, I actually think they've been doing a good job overall, but this a thing even the Yanks are getting cold feet over. Though they were early on the tank pledges, so maybe.
            >Also I'm curious if they can hit that Lugansk bridge, the one supplying most of the LPR and DPR.
Which bridge is this now? I'm not sure where it is, but I can guarantee it can be hit if it's in the East, most things 250km from that front aren't in Ukraine anymore

Nah, that bridge is a shitty target.
When the offensive begins they should bomb military coordination centers to seed turmoil and chaos among russians.

The crimean bridge is the only way out of crimea for thousands of russian civilians, military famlilies and government workers. If you blow it up during the counter offensive it will trigger massive chaos.and panic.

I don't think that current offensive should bomb Crimea. Because when Ukies take Zaporoznia, they can bomb Crimean bridge with artillery or himars. Not to mention they will blockade it from land.
Take Crimean border and Crimea is doomed.

        Anonymous

This. Blowing the bridge woudn't even be highest priority as long as the train route on the mainland is still open. Blowing up hardened corps level command posts and comms knots a is way more useful for the time being. As the Russians still seem to sruggle with force organization and supposedly still rely on direct line comms that get routed through Russia to coordinate their formations, striking the right relays would absolutely crush their ability to mount effective defensive operations.

        >Cant camp in crimea anymore

Also their logistics would have to become tighter, more crowded AND vulnerable overall. Which will hurt especially bad if you disturb logistics points like Luhansk with even more Storm Shadows

      >"The two-stage warhead is made up from an initial shaped charge, which cuts a passage through armour, concrete, earth, etc., allowing a larger following warhead to penetrate inside the target. honestly overpenetration might be a issue, targeting the support pillars rather than the span would work but then it would also take much longer to repair post war

Lack of RAM coating on the storm shadow vs RAM coating on JASSM. Impossible to conclude that storm shadow is stealthier

minor quibble on that point MBDA arent always the most forthcoming with publically released information for example missile ranges normally stated as xkm+ with the plus normally being 50% or more of x, and would not automatically advertise RAM on the other hand its not like RAM is a secret these days, the weapon is clearly shaped for stealth. Even if it does lack RAM its still going to have a RCS of a fricking baseball

Why would it be repaired post war? It's a Russian imperial vanity project. Once that bridge goes down properly it's staying down.

It’s not as good as JASSM but it’s leagues ahead of anything Ukraine has. What aircraft can they launch it from?

      Anonymous

They are pretty much the same, Storm Shadow has a more impressive combat record and more export success. As Storm Shadow gets programmed before flight it makes integration on soviet era jets far easier than weapons that require more complex connections and data-links.

        Anonymous

They aren’t the same at all. The JASSM has double the range, RAM coating so it’s more stealthy, and is capable of data link.

          Anonymous

The missiles are in the same weight class and have the similar dimensions with similar engines. We only have the range of Storm Sahdow when flying lo-lo flight patterns. MBDA have always heavily understated range (see the base model 25km+ CAMM engaging targets at 60km).

Both quite clearly have a RAM coating not that it's going to make too much difference when both are already stealthily shaped with internal engines and S ducts.

As i said earlier, the datalink also makes it worse for Ukraine given it has to be integrated on a soviet era jet.

            > The missiles are in the same weight class and have the similar dimensions with similar engines
Which is why the JASSM-ER having double the range while maintaining the exact dimensions of JASSM is such a big deal.

Swapped to carbon fibre body to save weight, added extra fuel (both good) and started quoting the maximum theoretical range instead of the realistic range (very lockmart)

They are about as stealthy as each other given their size and features. Any difference will be trivial. The guy making the claims that JASSM is less visible than storm shadow should probably cite his sources rather than his opinions.

Not really sure why the White House is so afraid of sending long ranged missiles to Ukraine. "Oh, they might strike Russia and escalate using those" is less of a worry when Ukraine has already attacked Belgorod several times and might have drone bombed the Kremlin (or a Russian false flag idk).
