If you sleep in something like OPs picture, how do you keep snakes away? I am scared of waking up and finding a rattle bug next to me, so that's why I have never cowboy camped before.

Any tips would be most appreciated friends.

A bug net (often called a bug bivy when they’re shaped like this) can be setup under the tarp. Without one you might get snakes and you’ll definetly get a lot of bugs crawling in your lips, up your nose, in your ears, and snuggling in your sleeping bag with you. Pic the the Mountain Laurel Designs bug bivy but there are a bunch of companies making them.

What if it rains? Just sleep in the puddle?

This is basic campsite selection. If there’s a puddle then you either chose a poor spot or are in a designated area and should have known better.

Also that particular bug net has a 4,000mm 30d bathtub floor. It’s no different than a tent.

Don't camp next to south-facing slopes, where the critters come to sun.
Don't camp next to big flat rocks under which they can hide.
Screen your campsite carefully for burrows and the like.

How else can I escape without first imagining it? I want out of this hell

it's not "planning your escape" if it's pure fantasy unanchored in reality, it's just jerking off, and the regulars here are tired of the same threads with the same shutins demanding to be jerked off.

literal hobos have better setups than the people posting ITT

Hobos stink and are a nuisance for everyone. There's a difference between a cool hermit who lives alone in nature and a fricking hobo. Hobos should be all culled tbh.

You've never had to walk or drive by encampments and it shows

Only when I have to visit a city. There aren’t any encampments out here because the sheriff runs them off. It must suck living in a bug hive.

Hobos smell like they haven’t showered in several days. The crazy ones smell like pee, but that’s an exception.

Please don't do what I see all the scum frick hobos do around here and litter. At least have the humanity to throw your refuse in a dumpster or gas station trash can. For the love of god don't burn down the forest. And please, please don't move to where I live

Yeah I use one of these when hiking, my balls are not big enough for rawdog sleeping. Keeps out all kinds of nasties and they’re light and easy to setup.
