Shit does mildly irk me, honestly. Not enough to not play and enjoy, just enough that I judge the design team harshly.

its not bad enough to be funny but not good enough to be interesting.
this one is kind of interesting, reminds me of pic related. I think most scifi guns want to make everything look super overdesigned to the point its hard to even read whats going on. This one looks scifi but at least all the parts make sense

Retarded logic, if guns had balanced damage that made sense in real life you could actually have more interesting gunplay as each type of gun would have a proper niche and not be just trash that you sell or disassemble. If you really need some rpg bullet sponge mechanics go the ammo and armor types route.
For all their faults I have to admire Battlefield 3 & 4 (maybe the later ones too, I dunno) to base damage *entirely* on the bullet, and what the different guns firing that bullet gave you were different falloffs, accuracy, handling, etc. -- but the damage at the different range groups (whatever those groups might be) was the same.
I hate that the accuracy and range is so similar, like there is no functional difference between pistols and semi automatic rifles like in Fallout 4. The pistols get massive damage buffs compared to automatic weapon while still being accurate enough to compete with them at a distance.
You said it was bigger but only the diameter is shown. It made it sound like you thought that the diameter was everything to size.
It's a AAA game that's been in development for the better part of a decade. They could hire a gun autist to oversee that shit >mods will fix it in time
[...]
I'm not too worried about the guns for this reason. there's plenty of mods for better guns on FO4
so this guy is responsible for the god awful fallout 4 weapons? and now that Adam Adamowicz (RIP true artist) is dead they cant use his awesome concept art as a crutch for their shit game design.
How is nobody in this thread talking about the fucking shock absorber on the grip?! It's completely fixed to a solid point and cannot articulate. This has to be bait by Bethesda. The Tod knows what he's doing.
I saw it too but didn't mention it because it made my head hurt. It may not be attached to the grip, but instead that foot thing on that A-shaped black strut. Still don't know what the hell it's for
I think it is but it still doesn't do anything. I know graphic designers aren't mechanics but they still have common sense right? They obviously knew what a shock was so you'd think they at least know the basics of how one worked. Best guess, "Fuck it. It looks cool." I hope he dreams of this abomination. I hope he wakes up in a cold sweet, sometime in his mid 80's, and remembers this embarrassment.
they made the guns deliberately stupid, entirely on purpose, as a marketing decision, to bait people into reacting to them and to fish for "REAL GUN gay REACTS TO STARFIELD GUNS!!!" youtube videos because it's easy free press. they did it because people are still talking about the fallout 3 shotgun to this day.
You're overthinking this way too much, they made them look this way because the average noguns looks at it and thinks it looks cool/futuristic. That's all there is too it and if you look at similar scifi games (cod, destiny, mass effect) they go down the same route of "just make it look cool" only more military focused games like Killzone or Halo even attempted to make realistic designs.
OP, Bethesda has never, in nearly twenty years, made a single gun model that made sense outside of those ripped straight from real world designs. The answer is they all suck ass and fuck you.
Chinese assault rifle in Fallout 3
Most people say it's an AK, but it's obviously based on an RPD action turned upside down for an assault rifle. This is probably because the Chinese never got the AK technical package in fallout due to the earlier Sino-Soviet split while still having the earlier RPD.
They also all have folding stocks, possibly because the Chinese assault rifles all got to DC through paratroopers and infiltration units where that's useful, though based on Operation Anchorage that may have just been standard issue.
Because it's obviously meant to evoke a holdout weapon judging from it's truncated size. It's still massive for a holdout weapon so it's kinda dumb though. Good luck getting that in your prison wallet.
They didn't realise that unique weapons which are hand placed in the world add to the game. Players of FNV would make specific builds and plan their progression around acquiring certain weapons early. Like for example you could get Lucky, a powerful crit build gun, very early in FNV if you specced into lockpicking and pumped the skill hard. Later on you could also get the Gobi Campaign Sniper, again pretty early.
>specific builds and plan their progression around acquiring certain weapons early.
I always beeline for Republic of Dave to get Ol' Painless and then squat-snipe everything when playing F3.
And this is all you told them? Sperg about irrelevant ironsights (it's the future lmao) and not about relevant stuff like damage depending on caliber or having actual feeding systems that aren't retarded?
Go Inna woods, do not collect SKS for thy has failed the cube.
this largely looks like the fostech origin shotgun , not like a rifle in 6.5mm. with that tall bolt and everything.
grip grooves that are largely on the frame instead of the slide. brilliant. and please don't tell me that nonsense at the front is the magazine. also .27 is weirdly small caliber
Nah, it's all added effects from what I've seen. Blue has one, purple has two, gold has three. It's not a simple rarer = stronger thing. I had a gold SMG drop that has bonus damage in Space, and both poison and electric damage effects.
it all look pretty forgetable..
This is some generic sci-fi stuff. if you told me this was from Call of Duty Infinite Warfare I wouldn't even bat an eye
Boring shit. Hopefully there are some more exotic late game guns, because everything I see in footage so far is totally bland. I understand they're trying to evoke a sort of angular industrial NASA tech feel, but that's what infinite warfare was trying to do and they did it way better. It was goofy bullshit like dual feed MP5Ks, but at least I felt something; I feel nothing for this junk. Thats the worst thing too, at least if you actively hate something you feel something about it, apathy is death.
A year ago, I met someone from Bethesda on a Fallout /vg/ thread and told him the Starfield guns in looked unrealistic. Mostly they all had fixed iron sights with no visible means of zeroing. I told him that actual iron sights all have adjustable mechanisms for this reason, and most of them can be taken off guns completely. I think he actually took that to heart, because now all the guns have iron sights with dials and knobs on them, plus they're obviously removable now.
Bethesda’s whole idea for guns in fallout were because the meta at the time said there wouldn’t be real guns in the commonwealth but pipe weapons all over the place.
They took that to heart because autists here argued that would be the gun meta in 2277 with no infrastructure.
Bethesda come to PrepHole to get knowledge on their guns and what people want to see.
>autists here argued that would be the gun meta in 2277 with no infrastructure
Why can't there be infrastructure? I hate that the PC is the only one with the initiative to do anything and that people have been living in scrap metal shacks for 200 years without even thinking of building water pumps or cleaning up garbage. I could kind of understand it in 3 due to DC getting a train run on it with dirty nukes by the Chinese and there being a super mutant factory nobody knew the location of. The Commonwealth had it much better off until the Institute started flushing their failed super mutant experiments and gangs of robot skellingtons to fuck up everything because >surface dwellers smelly
But even that must have been a fairly recent development.
Pipe weapons being the meta also doesn't explain why most of the pre-war guns made in actual factories look like dogshit that would be obsolete during WWII let alone the 2070s.

That's the thing; New Vegas made it pretty clear there WAS infrastructure. That's what the gunrunners were doing, building legit guns with pre-war blueprints and sometimes even machinery. To say nothing of all the political bodies. Bethesda just doesn't get, and does not care to get Fallout and just thinks "it's like mad max with everyone living in sheet metal huts and shooting each other with laser guns".
Buffalo Bore was using those colors before Ukraine was retard
Incorrect. The blue and yellow on the uke flag dates to 1917; technically long before that if you just count the coloration. Even then, buffalo bore was founded in 1997, while Ukraine's current constitution was signed in 1996.
I replaced all pipe guns with browning hipowers, M3 grease guns, pump shotguns, and M16s.
Scattered the level lists with AKs, BARs, Brens, Stens, Skorpions, and assorted WW2 through Cold War designs. Might not be autistically lore accurate but it was exceedingly thematically appropriate.
Just future 3D print it bro. A funny way to take it further, I would've made a whole quest where you would need to build settlement modules and reloading machinery to restart the mass production of .45 ACP. Can you even craft ammo in this game as it stands? Reloading mod when?
Please let this be the only weapon that can destroy landed starships and vaporise entire bases
No, to bases and starships but you can pretty much drop most motherfuckers you come across fairly easily. If you choose to have parents that aren't dead as a trait your pops gives you one. Since the one pops gives you has been modified to be a little better than the rest.
how do they manage to not find a perfect 1:1 model of a 1911? why is the task of modeling a real-world weapon ever left up to some college kid artist who's never touched it?
this is worse than the service rifle from NV, PrepHole should be cringing at the sight of such an uncanny valley, off-white shaped 1911
whats wrong with it? ok the trigger guard holes mishapen, the grips a bit low and theres stupid holes. but come on theres probably some laser or scope attachment that connects to those holes and makes it look decent
whats wrong with it? ok the trigger guard holes mishapen, the grips a bit low and theres stupid holes. but come on theres probably some laser or scope attachment that connects to those holes and makes it look decent
>the stupid holes
I'm 99.9% certain it's for an optics side plate attachment. if they don't have that then yes the holes are straight up retarded
in the backstory of Starfield, the Earth rapidly lost its atmosphere and was evacuated. artifacts from pre-evacuation could be really rare. so it could be that the only 1911 that survived was in Bubba's workshop and was nearly mutilated to death
does 14
and it has a *faster firing rate* than the laser, kek.
I see that "Regulator" in the inventory with 162 normally does 42 damage base per https://game8.co/games/Starfield/archives/423476 so clearly there is a lot to be added by modding a weapon.
Bethesda games usually show damage based on the player's level in relevant skills, perks, etc. rather than the weapon's base damage, so the guy taking the screenshots may have minmaxed pistols or whatever.
I would like to see a barrel with heatpipes like they actually had a solution to dumping heat for vacuum operations.
Other than that lightweight frame and handguards with a floating barrel on an aim-assist gimbal.
Jesus fucking Christ there is so much to insult here
Like the peq box was clearly ripped from a source and not made by the developer
They just shrunk it down and slapped it on, they didn't even notice it has a Picatinny rail on it and they shrunk the rail as well
Their is no rail where it is attached as well
ok uh bud? guy? let's not pretend you've never imagined a sawzall was some futuristic recoil-managed insane ROF caseless PDW capable of sawing a man in half in a single near instant burst of 20+ rds
you might be autistic if you havent, or you've just never touched a sawzall
i think every cg artist for videogames was taught the same curriculum. i have seen these exact guns in multiple games. look at star citizens old gun concept art and you will see VERY similar looking guns.
>pointless greeble everywhere >futuristic = blocky >futuristic = everything will have a gigantic plastic clamshell body for no fucking reason >adjustable stocks are so 21st century we don't need that shit anymore
The game might be fine but this shit bothers me.
>rpg balance >weapons are balanced around rarity, not caliber/barrel length/ammo choice >zero reason to invest in a gray throwaway >designs are as monolithis as they come, no customization beyond the stale sight/magazine/"ammo"/some vague adjective, you probably cant even paint your gun lmao >no emphasis placed on rarity/concealability/bulk
disgusting
It's too bad they ruined it by adding one of those stupid weapon rarity colour systems, where guns do more damage as they get more purple. Fallout NV is the only time they did guns right and of course it wasn't made by Bethesda.
That’s not actually how it works though. They just have more special effects as they get more purple (some of these effects add other types of damage or bonus damage to specific enemies though)
I know I'll catch shit for it, but I enjoy modding the crap out of Bethesda games and including custom weapons and armor made by fans. I can't wait for the AR15 moon rifles, Bladerunner pistols, Aliens Pulse Rifles, MA5B from Halo, ect >hurr you have to mod the game to make it good
If I pay $70 bucks for the game, why should I be able to customize my game? Half of us on here (that actually own guns) have goofy accessories or tweaks to their shit
>tell me what is wrong with this image PrepHole
Not much? Fires from a bottom barrel. Plenty of precedents for that, especially in bullseye pistols.
Seems relatively ok, although the controls are shit.
And?
You know revolvers can be semi-automatic, even today, right? There's nothing technically preventing you from making those with binary triggers (except common fucking sense).
It'd be even easier to handwave in a future scifi scenario.
>anon this very obviously isn't a Fosbery style automatic revolver, look at the frame
It's the fucking future, you dumbass. Do you really think no one can figure out how to put a small motor to rotate the cylinder in a fucking revolver?
Jesus Christ, the game is utter tripe, but you're grasping at fucking straws here.
what the fuck even is this game? I thought it was supposed to be all P90s and lasers, but instead its VSS and 1911s? I cant figure what they were going for with some of this shit.
Game art was based on golden era of space exploration so based on 60-70 NASA ans Soviet space programs. I dig that retro futuristic look thou in some cases they missed a mark a bit, probably due to person designing some of that shit was yellow haired feminist trans not interested in setting
>I dig that retro futuristic look thou in some cases they missed a mark a bit, probably due to person designing some of that shit was yellow haired feminist trans not interested in setting
Plausible, but even more plausible is the fact that Bethesda doesn't have a fucking design document.
I think it the end game needs variety, game needs lots of weapons, different kinds and 3d artists need to have something to work on. So as designer u just can't sit on one particular design for ages because cogs in corporate machine will start to slow down. Even game mechanics will take away creative freedom from you because game needs to have some kind of weapon upgrade system, some kind of recoil system, some kind of rarity of weapons system, maybe different kinds of guns specialization in skill tree and as a weapon concept artist and designer u have to take all of that into consideration.
so if I were to buy Starfield. (tempting, not convinced yet)
And if I just so happened to be a competent 3d modeller with several AAA game titles under my belt.
What sort of firearms designs would people like to see modded in? "antique" historical stuff (ie, modern contemporary), Functional sci-fi which isnt utterly idiotic? (that "equinox" laser doesnt strike me as particularly awful.) something else?
yes. I'm tempted. its called enjoying things. wild idea, I know... and in case you didnt work it out from the "several AAA titles under my belt" bit, I worked in the videogame industry for many years, for companies who make billions. you might be amazed to know I enjoy videogames. Morrowind modding was my foot in the door that got me into working for my first job in the business.
99% of people are tempted because theyre not mentally dysfunctional contrarians who have to moan about whatever new thing people are interested in.
>are there any (full) stock options for space AKMs?
idk, that's one of the only pics I've found. I hope so. Also hope there's a better handguard than that shitty thing
Earth is gone in lore, so any historical firearms are essentially relics that have managed to survive bouncing around space for 300+ years, so keep that in mind if you want your mod weapons to be """immersive""".
There are companies now making functional replicas of antique guns, so there's no reason the same couldn't be true in SF. Modder anon could probably even make up some lore about a company that specializes in Old Earth repros or whatever.
“Futuristic “ designs from the past, so stuff like the P90, AUG, FN2000, WA2000, that weird gun that they gave cosmonauts, the blade runner gun (that gun from fallout nv) the jatimatic, basically the whole keltec line.
>b-b-BUT THAT ISN'T AN OPTIMAL DESIGN >WHY'S IT BULKY >WHY ARE DAMAGE VALUES CONSIDERED AROUND BALANCE INSTEAD OF CALIBER
I know this is the weapons board and a bunch of you are autistic but try and have some fun you retards
Battle bit is the most realistic fps game available right now because game devs and fag retards like you refuse to listen to people who actually know about guns
It is kinda fun to nitpick shit like that but yeah some of you guys need to remember it’s a games and has to be subjected to games design and balance, and not realism
There is few weapon designers in concept art that went with idea of making sci Fi weapons, ships etc as realistic as possible, with functional design. But that kind of design falls into familiar territory because firearms perfected ergonomy, capabilities etc with current technology, you really need to think outside the box to design gun that would be different yet still practical and functional. And if you are working for big game dev, u are in charge of weapon design, 3d artist need to have something to work on, u don't have much time so at the end u are roasted by keeper of firearms Johnathan Ferguson
The slots on top of the outer guard are where the locking points are, obviously the forward slot is damaged and you can't tell because it's covered over with the tape that's keeping it up.
Fallout 4 gun design really did a number on you guys.
That optic mount is clipping through the top cover. I get that you can't eliminate 100% of clipping but that's one the side of the gun that's facing you at all times, so it's always gonna be in your face to bother you.
>6.5mm
So it's a handgun?
Why does it look so fucking huge? >66% accurate
Jesus Christ why is it so fucking shit?
Anything under 90% should not be used by anyone
Please tell me that's just your accuracy using it not the actual guns accuracy
You can tell here who came for the guns and who came for the games
And yes,it's extremely smart to copy assets where possible. Anyone complaining that every texture or mess must be handcrafted in detail is a nonce and probably has no life. KHV the lot of them
It's a AAA game that's been in development for the better part of a decade. They could hire a gun autist to oversee that shit >mods will fix it in time
Better than Fallout 4 but that bar isn't set particularly high anyways
I'm not too worried about the guns for this reason. there's plenty of mods for better guns on FO4
I have played for about 10 hours, and the most egregious thing I saw was a mug. And, to be real, if you get mad at a mug, you're about as fragile as one.
My biggest problem with bethesda designs is that they make everything needlessly large. Almost all of these designs would look better if you just made certain parts of the gun smaller to have less bulk or just removed them.
>tried playing with it installed on an HDD because my SSD didn't have enough space >horrible stuttering, freezing, and audio cutout every minute >literally has to be played on an SSD
DAMNIT TODD
My favorite is Daedric Bow.
Get it? Because Todd's been selling you retards the same game for decades and you're still eating it all up like low-standard retards you are.
I hope Bethesda is next after Volition.
I'll be buying it on Wednesday and may take a day or two of PTO to play it along with the weekend. I'm not very computer literate though so I hope my specs can handle it:
These are worse than ugly, they are unmemorable. Gun to my head I could not come close to even just describing any of them from memory. There's no design language to any of them, they're messy piles of random angles and details and the ones that aren't are just amorphous blobs. It's actually fucking with me how little information I can retain of these, nothing is where it should be, nothing is proportioned like how it should be, everything is coated in greeble, it's like 3D modeled dazzle camouflage.
Starfield is so painfully a Bethesda game that I'm already bored, the writing sucks the shooting is meh and the lack of exploration the one thing older Bethesda games had going for them is fucking dumb.
it is a shell without a case.
a caseless shell.
what is there to not understand?
Anonymous
Well what I'm trying to get at is that even if it's caseless, there would still be a shell loaded into the gun initially, as the case in a caseless shell is the propellant, which combusts when fired, leaving nothing in the chamber.
What I'm asking, to be more explicit, is if they actually added a caseless shell model or if they just changed the animation so you cannot see the shells being loaded.

it's a caseless shell bro. they fixed it

I fully expect modders to fix this like many bethesda games. Personally I like being able to make a game how I like it so I'm not saying this as a negative.

I find the implications of this answer within the context of the questions asked to be concerning.
Kinda. They made it caseless so there's nothing to eject. >Break open gun >Chambers are empty >Hand goes over chambers >Pic related left behind >Close gun
Here it is in motion: https://youtu.be/c4WkTOancUk?si=mNcLHuMn3QZC_aBU&t=482
>Nasa core is boring 3 minutes after looking at it
tbh "nasapunk" is probably my favorite part of the game, it looks unexpectedly good
it's everything else that is somewhat questionable
>It was grey and white viking land.
Skyrim had more distinct regions than 'snowy forest' and 'snowy plain', like the volcanic hot springs to the east, or the big lush forests in the south, or the prominent cliffs and valleys to the west inhabited by unga bunga reachmen. All of the dungeons using the same two or three tilesets, same enemies, and similar spinning pillar puzzles definitely drags down the experience though, especially since you spend so much time in them.
Don't give a shit. Will maybe pirate after five years have passed. FO4 had mods that turned it PrepHole as hell, with caliber determining damage and different enemy types being vulnerable to different calibers, e.g. a deathclaw would completely ignore small calibers but still die from a single headshot from a proper weapon.
That's the better locational damage mod, and it does help keep the game interesting for a while. I combined it with a mod that increases enemy spawns by like 10x. I used the 10mm SMG (also a mod gun) to mow down mobs of ghouls with head shots. It's always satisfying to one shot a super mutant with a 50 cal, too.
But the best part of the mod is that it dramatically increases shotgun damage at the 1m range and lets you blow off limbs with them.
I wish there was an ai mod that turned fo4 into arma with scrounging. I want to tactically raid people with my operator companions from the safety of my underground vault.
Looks like I made the correct choice to wait for mods.
Fallout 4 was much more bearable once I replaced basically all the default guns with a selection of of mod guns.
I assume a few months and Starfield will be full of Halo and Star Wars guns, which will be an improvement.
Does the engine finally support underbarrel attachments like a grenade launcher for example? What new features gun-wise do they have? I saw a binary trigger attachment aaaand that's it? There is also that laser gun with 5x5 laser grid that caught my attention but there was this tri-barrel laser rifle already in Fallout 3. So what's actually interesting/new(at least new for Bethesda)?
Star Wars, by limiting itself to using real guns (at least in the OT) as a basis was constrained in ways video game devs are not. That lead to gun designs which are full of greeble but underneath will at least look like they had some logic as guns.

Shit does mildly irk me, honestly. Not enough to not play and enjoy, just enough that I judge the design team harshly.

It is too bad battletech forces hand-held weapons to be so light. You basically can only use SRM or one-shot rockets.

FN P90
Colt 1911
XM29 OICW
Looks like not one person who's ever used a gun was consulted
They look stupid and fun and I just don't care anymore. It's a video game with space and scifi shit who cares.
They all have a bit too much going on. They look like they belong on the ISS which I get is intentional so I’ll ignore that
Fine
Fine
Not the worst laser rifle I’ve ever seen but a laser rifle doesn’t real
I fucking hate this
Literally retarded, actively offensive
This is a bong and true to form, he hates the only remotely interesting and ergonomic looking weapon.
>Literally retarded, actively offensive
I like it
>Caliber - 7.77x27mm
Damage - 10
>Caliber - 7.77.27mm
Damage - 3
it's a game balance thing. it's a fucking rpg made by bethesda, not a fucking milsim
Go to bed, Todd.
You can balance games without being retarded.
Retarded logic, if guns had balanced damage that made sense in real life you could actually have more interesting gunplay as each type of gun would have a proper niche and not be just trash that you sell or disassemble. If you really need some rpg bullet sponge mechanics go the ammo and armor types route.
Each gun in real life absolutely does not have a proper niche anon.
I forgot how you can conceal your rifle easily ya doofus.
Cool, now turn that into a mechanic in a game where you can unequip weapons at will and store 30 shotguns in your asshole.
>the shorter barrel also gives you better accuracy and the same range
For all their faults I have to admire Battlefield 3 & 4 (maybe the later ones too, I dunno) to base damage *entirely* on the bullet, and what the different guns firing that bullet gave you were different falloffs, accuracy, handling, etc. -- but the damage at the different range groups (whatever those groups might be) was the same.
based BF4 bro, the later BF game have wacko damage especially the SLR's
I hate that the accuracy and range is so similar, like there is no functional difference between pistols and semi automatic rifles like in Fallout 4. The pistols get massive damage buffs compared to automatic weapon while still being accurate enough to compete with them at a distance.
The rifle has to syphon off gas from the bullet being fired to cycle, so the bullet comes out slower. That means it does less damage. Obviously.
>Handgun uses larger ammo than rifle in OP
Game is retarded
Diameter. .45 acp is a wider diameter than most rifle calibers.
45acp is a handgun round
It's short and fat
No idea what your point was supposed to be
You said it was bigger but only the diameter is shown. It made it sound like you thought that the diameter was everything to size.
https://bethesda.net/en/article/1QVevcaAyvXUv6QTwJV82G/meet-dane-olds-lead-weapons-artist-on-starfield-at-bethesda-game-studios?linkId=222485869
Gee, if only they had thought of this very obvious thing.
They're never going to hire you btw. You have nothing to offer.
>meet-dane-olds-lead-weapons-artist-on-starfield
so this guy is responsible for the god awful fallout 4 weapons? and now that Adam Adamowicz (RIP true artist) is dead they cant use his awesome concept art as a crutch for their shit game design.
well the obviously didn't listen to him if he supposedly knows his shit lmao
This looks like it holds a battery?
Why does this gun need a battery?
Is it just there to look futuristic?
Electrically fired perhaps?
Under barrel taser perhaps?
>7.77MM
why not just standardise at 8MM or 7.5MM?
This is literally just a p90 but more bulky.
it's more bulky because it's a full-size rifle caliber,
it clearly says 7.77x27mm
>literally
no, its literally the KRISS Vector and p90 put together.
Looks like they ripped off the Custodian from Star Citizen. (Both are obviously P90-inspired though.)
starfield may be shit but at least it's not scam shitizen lmao
What if I told you the Chinese Assault rifle was real?
?si=1lZdViezP-8ijVZp
>wrong stock
>charging handle not in separate channel
BOOOOO
This is literally ripped off from this thing
>chamber a round
>falls out, no barrel
lmao
Lol no chamber, bullet would literally plop out the end of barrel instantly after feeding from mag.
HOW DOES BOOLIT FIRE FROM GON!!?
>warhammer
tell me how i know your a balding man living his mom's basement without tell me
>cornered rattler
>not a corner-shot weapon
What did they mean by this?
Because it's obviously meant to evoke a holdout weapon judging from it's truncated size. It's still massive for a holdout weapon so it's kinda dumb though. Good luck getting that in your prison wallet.
It’s the stupid legendary traits thing from Fallout 4 that right there made up my mind not to play this bullshit.
i didn't mind the legendary system in itself, what bothered me was that there were no real unique weapons (much unlike New Vegas)
Shut the fuck up retard
this largely looks like the fostech origin shotgun , not like a rifle in 6.5mm. with that tall bolt and everything.
grip grooves that are largely on the frame instead of the slide. brilliant. and please don't tell me that nonsense at the front is the magazine. also .27 is weirdly small caliber
Aww shit. They're doing that thing where guns are classed as
common/uncommon/rare/exotic and do more damage as they become more purple.
Shit shit shit this takes me out of every game I play.
god i know. back 4 blood did that shit too.
Left4dead did it but it doesn't feel as artificial since you get auto shotty over pump and M16/ak instead of mac-10
that's different if rarity is tied to weapons. they complain about the same weapon having different rarities
>doom vs doom eternal
Nah, it's all added effects from what I've seen. Blue has one, purple has two, gold has three. It's not a simple rarer = stronger thing. I had a gold SMG drop that has bonus damage in Space, and both poison and electric damage effects.
it all look pretty forgetable..
This is some generic sci-fi stuff. if you told me this was from Call of Duty Infinite Warfare I wouldn't even bat an eye
>Call of Duty Infinite Warfare
That game just used modern guns. You can clearly tell which gun is an AK, an M4, etc.
it was like half those and half aaron beck style designs, kind of clashing aesthetic
I hate how everything since Elysium has been aaronbeckcore
to be fair they actually hired him for infinite warfare, but yeah it's a bit over saturated.
Fostech Origin with useless greeblies
The Commonwealth had it much better off until the Institute started flushing their failed super mutant experiments and gangs of robot skellingtons to fuck up everything because
>surface dwellers smelly
500 years in the future or whatever, and the guns don't even have cheap holosun sights?
fudds are eternal and the economy is so bad even a holosun is 1499.99 + shipping
>5 world wars
>High velocity .45 acp
Yes?
>normal 1911
>the ammo you find in space is the even rarer specialty cartridge
Just future 3D print it bro. A funny way to take it further, I would've made a whole quest where you would need to build settlement modules and reloading machinery to restart the mass production of .45 ACP. Can you even craft ammo in this game as it stands? Reloading mod when?
that damn ukie flag
Buffalo Bore was using those colors before Ukraine was retard
>
Haven't played the game yet but was about to post this after seeing it in a review. Based boomer dad.
>TWO COLONY WARS SONNY
This will be the only gun i use
Good luck finding ammo.
No, to bases and starships but you can pretty much drop most motherfuckers you come across fairly easily. If you choose to have parents that aren't dead as a trait your pops gives you one. Since the one pops gives you has been modified to be a little better than the rest.
>Good luck finding ammo.
>~
>help "45ACP"
>player.additem 45ACP 500
Please let this be the only weapon that can destroy landed starships and vaporise entire bases
how do they manage to not find a perfect 1:1 model of a 1911? why is the task of modeling a real-world weapon ever left up to some college kid artist who's never touched it?
this is worse than the service rifle from NV, PrepHole should be cringing at the sight of such an uncanny valley, off-white shaped 1911
They don't cater to your autism
whats wrong with it? ok the trigger guard holes mishapen, the grips a bit low and theres stupid holes. but come on theres probably some laser or scope attachment that connects to those holes and makes it look decent
Because it's not meant to be a 1:1 1911? It's a custom made one
They probably had to tweak the proportions so it'd fit right in a spacesuit gloved hand.
>the stupid holes
I'm 99.9% certain it's for an optics side plate attachment. if they don't have that then yes the holes are straight up retarded
in the backstory of Starfield, the Earth rapidly lost its atmosphere and was evacuated. artifacts from pre-evacuation could be really rare. so it could be that the only 1911 that survived was in Bubba's workshop and was nearly mutilated to death
>46 damage
whereas the fucking laser gun
does 14
and it has a *faster firing rate* than the laser, kek.
I see that "Regulator" in the inventory with 162 normally does 42 damage base per https://game8.co/games/Starfield/archives/423476 so clearly there is a lot to be added by modding a weapon.
it seems like they made pistols super OP, maybe to be more "cinematic"
Bethesda games usually show damage based on the player's level in relevant skills, perks, etc. rather than the weapon's base damage, so the guy taking the screenshots may have minmaxed pistols or whatever.
This. in fo4 You can have a semi auto rifle do 100 damage, but as soon as you make it full auto it will do 14.
>we can't expect space god to do all the work
borderlands but what if it were boring!
I like them NGL too many cringy against the current thing posters in the thread
Starfield could be an objective 10/10 and these would still be bland designs
what's the rubber hose for?
Liquid cooling for the barrel maybe? Kinda reminds me of the loops you see on gaymer pc builds.
it looks like a retarded gas system
I would like to see a barrel with heatpipes like they actually had a solution to dumping heat for vacuum operations.
Other than that lightweight frame and handguards with a floating barrel on an aim-assist gimbal.
That's a hideous sight
Hehe, the tiny baby rail on the tiny baby PEQ box
the grip is larger than the entire receiver and slide
Jesus fucking Christ there is so much to insult here
Like the peq box was clearly ripped from a source and not made by the developer
They just shrunk it down and slapped it on, they didn't even notice it has a Picatinny rail on it and they shrunk the rail as well
Their is no rail where it is attached as well
I fucking love this thing. This is exactly what I imagine some space engineer who's never held a gun would design as a "perfect handgun".
They forgot some stuff:
>GRIP HERE
>READ MANUAL
>MAY CAUSE CANCER
>DON'T HOLD THIS PART
>THIS GUN MAY FIRE WITH AN EMPTY CHAMBER
this one doesnt have a trigger..
>hey guys what if we made a double barreled shotgun but made it stupid
>a fooooochoooristikk double fucking barrel shotgun
for what purpose, why would they exist? Just put in a normal double barrel like they did the M1911
You use your mind powers from all the Hispanice you hit this orbital cycle
the year is 2300 we have caseless 12G double barrel
probably a touch sensitive material with built in fingerprint scanner.
>caution deuterium
did they mix up tritium and deuterium? heavy water is safe enough to drink
>safe enough
apparently it's slightly sweet-tasting, and they've never been able to detect a meaningful effect on health
...perhaps i should start a Luxury Water company and sell deuterated drinks
I have a couple screenshots of a trailer from a few months back
there were some others but I forgot to save them
Looks like someone saw the Hera arms cqr and decided making a 556 rifle wasn’t futuristic enough
I really don't like them. They have too many silly details, and give off li-ion sawzall vibes.
ok uh bud? guy? let's not pretend you've never imagined a sawzall was some futuristic recoil-managed insane ROF caseless PDW capable of sawing a man in half in a single near instant burst of 20+ rds
you might be autistic if you havent, or you've just never touched a sawzall
yeah, but it's not cool when you do it the other way and turn your gun into a sawzall
i think every cg artist for videogames was taught the same curriculum. i have seen these exact guns in multiple games. look at star citizens old gun concept art and you will see VERY similar looking guns.
>pointless greeble everywhere
>futuristic = blocky
>futuristic = everything will have a gigantic plastic clamshell body for no fucking reason
>adjustable stocks are so 21st century we don't need that shit anymore
The game might be fine but this shit bothers me.
CalArts of weapon design
>The game might be fine but this shit bothers me.
its not, don't buy it
>rpg balance
>weapons are balanced around rarity, not caliber/barrel length/ammo choice
>zero reason to invest in a gray throwaway
>designs are as monolithis as they come, no customization beyond the stale sight/magazine/"ammo"/some vague adjective, you probably cant even paint your gun lmao
>no emphasis placed on rarity/concealability/bulk
disgusting
I remember that one shotgun had a square barrel and used round bullets, did they fix that at least?
Watching gameplay it doesnt seem like any of them actually work. Stopping power of an airsoft gun.
Did anyone actually want shartfield over TES6 or Fallout5?
Yeah there’s not enough AAA space games and it’s nice to see a big dev add to the genre
I can't wait for the AR15 moon rifles, Bladerunner pistols, Aliens Pulse Rifles, MA5B from Halo, ect
>hurr you have to mod the game to make it good
If I pay $70 bucks for the game, why should I be able to customize my game? Half of us on here (that actually own guns) have goofy accessories or tweaks to their shit
I want a Jericho 941 and a Mauser C96
god I love it when people who have no idea how guns work try to make guns
tell me what is wrong with this image PrepHole
Looks like a modded nerf hammershot
modded nerf hammershots are based
the lightening holes on that honestly look way better than whatever the fuck the rhino is doing
>hunting rifle
weird claim but ok
>tell me what is wrong with this image PrepHole
Not much? Fires from a bottom barrel. Plenty of precedents for that, especially in bullseye pistols.
Seems relatively ok, although the controls are shit.
I'll give you a hint
>Binary trigger
And?
You know revolvers can be semi-automatic, even today, right? There's nothing technically preventing you from making those with binary triggers (except common fucking sense).
It'd be even easier to handwave in a future scifi scenario.
anon this very obviously isn't a Fosbery style automatic revolver, look at the frame
>anon this very obviously isn't a Fosbery style automatic revolver, look at the frame
It's the fucking future, you dumbass. Do you really think no one can figure out how to put a small motor to rotate the cylinder in a fucking revolver?
Jesus Christ, the game is utter tripe, but you're grasping at fucking straws here.
Gotta say, thats one of the more interesting takes on scifi revolver that I've seen
warframe has several that look like that but none with the bottom-cylinder barrel iirc
There is 7.62x39 ammo in game but I e yet to see a gun that fires it.
Please tell me there is an old school AK or even SKS to match my 1911.
scifi is just an excuse for designers to add indents and greebles all over for no reason
like wtf are the ergonomics of this?
A NUUUUUUU
what the fuck even is this game? I thought it was supposed to be all P90s and lasers, but instead its VSS and 1911s? I cant figure what they were going for with some of this shit.
cleaarly:
Borderlands in SPACEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
Borderlands pre-sequel? It was fine
It proved once and for all that Handsome Jack did nothing wrong, other than trust that bitchcunt Lilith
The oldey guns are rare and collectible pieces. iirc the 1911 is some military officers personal piece.
I'm more surprised it's actually using 9x39
>randomly deals incendiary damage
We were the smooker all along. blyat kurva
I'M GONNA SMOOK
so if I were to buy Starfield.
99% of gamers are "tempted" to buy the next aaa slop. It's an addiction.
I'll suck your cock and swallow
>more realistic meshes for vanilla old earth weapons
>retrofuture guns inspired by OICW/ACR/Soviet trial entries
>a completely ordinary Mosin-Nagant
are there any (full) stock options for space AKMs?
>are there any (full) stock options for space AKMs?
idk, that's one of the only pics I've found. I hope so. Also hope there's a better handguard than that shitty thing
>retrofuture guns inspired by OICW/ACR/Soviet trial entries
seconding this
Just functional weapons
thats all bethesda had to do and they failed
Small indie company, please try to understand.
This thread makes me miss when games ripped off famous movie and comic guns instead of making their own retarded designs.
A mod that adds in way more Earth weapons but with wonky furniture options made of laminates and metals plus futuristic optics would be kino.
this, give me an AK with an airburst ammo calibration module strapped to itt
>b-b-BUT THAT ISN'T AN OPTIMAL DESIGN
>WHY'S IT BULKY
>WHY ARE DAMAGE VALUES CONSIDERED AROUND BALANCE INSTEAD OF CALIBER
And if you are working for big game dev, u are in charge of weapon design, 3d artist need to have something to work on, u don't have much time so at the end u are roasted by keeper of firearms Johnathan Ferguson
>random pump/handguard taped over existing handguard for no discernable reason
The slots on top of the outer guard are where the locking points are, obviously the forward slot is damaged and you can't tell because it's covered over with the tape that's keeping it up.
Fallout 4 gun design really did a number on you guys.
That optic mount is clipping through the top cover. I get that you can't eliminate 100% of clipping but that's one the side of the gun that's facing you at all times, so it's always gonna be in your face to bother you.
>need to dump an entire mag to kill a single trash enemy
I suppose people evolve ceramic/titanium composite skin in the next 300 years
most people being shot are wearing spacesuits which are already somewhat armored. suits designed for combat would definitely be armored
>6.5mm
So it's a handgun?
Why does it look so fucking huge?
>66% accurate
Jesus Christ why is it so fucking shit?
Anything under 90% should not be used by anyone
Please tell me that's just your accuracy using it not the actual guns accuracy
It's 6.5mm CT. It might literally be the Textron NGSW round.
It's a caseless gun, with an ammo counter display on the back of the slide, and possibly uses electrical ignition.
PRC or Grendel bros???
You can tell here who came for the guns and who came for the games
And yes,it's extremely smart to copy assets where possible. Anyone complaining that every texture or mess must be handcrafted in detail is a nonce and probably has no life. KHV the lot of them
It's a AAA game that's been in development for the better part of a decade. They could hire a gun autist to oversee that shit
>mods will fix it in time
I'm not too worried about the guns for this reason. there's plenty of mods for better guns on FO4
Better than Fallout 4 but that bar isn't set particularly high anyways
My favorite part is that I got a blue tier double barrel shotgun with the extended magazine modifier and it can load 4 shots per reload.
ah the double barrel shotgun with square barrel and shells
They changed it to be caseless in the final release at least. In the demo it ejected round brass casings.
Any classic revolvers in?
with a straight mag, the feed angle is retarded
Is there any pozzed lgbt shit in the game? I can give a pass to shitty looking guns, but not to idpol garbo
It’s a modern, western AAA game, what do you think?
Well FO4 didn't have any that I remember, and that wasn't too long ago. Any specific examples?
NTA but here's this
Lel that's pretty stupid, but not that bad
probably
wait for his review to see some of it pointed out
I have played for about 10 hours, and the most egregious thing I saw was a mug. And, to be real, if you get mad at a mug, you're about as fragile as one.
>no settings option to disable green/red differentials
wonderful. thanks for doing my job for me i guess
My biggest problem with bethesda designs is that they make everything needlessly large. Almost all of these designs would look better if you just made certain parts of the gun smaller to have less bulk or just removed them.
WTF is Bethsdas deal with making firearms XBOX HUGE monstrosites?
>using guns in a game where you can be goku
???????????????????
>tried playing with it installed on an HDD because my SSD didn't have enough space
>horrible stuttering, freezing, and audio cutout every minute
>literally has to be played on an SSD
DAMNIT TODD
My favorite is Daedric Bow.
Get it? Because Todd's been selling you retards the same game for decades and you're still eating it all up like low-standard retards you are.
I hope Bethesda is next after Volition.
kino
Oh come on. At least make it look like the AK47 from Elysium if you're going to flat out use current day weapons.
Anon...thats a wood furnished AS-VAL, not an AK-47
He didn't say it was. He was saying dress it up with some electronics.
Blind or just noguns?
So how is it? I'm skeptical enough of Bethesda to keep from preordering, but that last big showcase they did definitely has me curious
Like most vanilla Bethesda games, I'd say it's a 70/100. It'll become 90/100 with mods and patches, but that takes time.
>Starfield is so painfully a Bethesda game
It is. Everything is mediocre about it and then you end up with 150 hours played somehow.
>find a gun at level 2
>it does 5 damage
>find the exact same gun at level 15
>it does 15 damage
They all look a bit shit other than a couple of the more grounded designs, also, did they ever fix pic rel?
Yeah, the shotgun fires caseless shells now. Honestly, a giga-based response to the critics from Bethesda.
But wait, what does the character load INTO the gun?
Caseless shells of course.
Well yes, but do you actually see them?
Surely they still have a case before they're fired.
it is a shell without a case.
a caseless shell.
what is there to not understand?
Well what I'm trying to get at is that even if it's caseless, there would still be a shell loaded into the gun initially, as the case in a caseless shell is the propellant, which combusts when fired, leaving nothing in the chamber.
What I'm asking, to be more explicit, is if they actually added a caseless shell model or if they just changed the animation so you cannot see the shells being loaded.
>What I'm asking, to be more explicit, is if they actually added a caseless shell model or if they just changed the animation so you cannot see the shells being loaded.
it's a caseless shell bro. they fixed it
I fully expect modders to fix this like many bethesda games. Personally I like being able to make a game how I like it so I'm not saying this as a negative.
>it's a caseless shell bro. they fixed it
I find the implications of this answer within the context of the questions asked to be concerning.
Kinda. They made it caseless so there's nothing to eject.
>Break open gun
>Chambers are empty
>Hand goes over chambers
>Pic related left behind
>Close gun
Here it is in motion: https://youtu.be/c4WkTOancUk?si=mNcLHuMn3QZC_aBU&t=482
Well, that's kinda cool then.
The guns lack any real punch to them.
this game has no memorable aesthetic
Nasa core is boring 3 minutes after looking at it. I dont think its gonna have the modding scene that skyrim had
>Nasa core is boring 3 minutes after looking at it
tbh "nasapunk" is probably my favorite part of the game, it looks unexpectedly good
it's everything else that is somewhat questionable
Brother it literally already has 800+ mods on nexus and the game hasn't even officially released yet.
Skyrim had even less of a memorable aesthetic though. It was grey and white viking land.
>I dont think its gonna have the modding scene that skyrim had
Bruh, you should check out nexus.
So is this game good or bad?
I like open world RPG exploration games, but everything I've seen looks like a barren desert.
I don't like how "artists" think everything should be covered in pointless greebles.
Makes you wonder why more don’t just do what Star Wars did so the guns don’t look like total shit.
Star Wars, by limiting itself to using real guns (at least in the OT) as a basis was constrained in ways video game devs are not. That lead to gun designs which are full of greeble but underneath will at least look like they had some logic as guns.
>>AK's and 1911's in space
>Most believable part of the game.
it's weird that they didn't include the Lunar M-16s like this, it would have fit in so well
