My understanding was that they could change the pressure inside the suit, perhaps affecting buoyancy. It'd be pretty moronic if a Spartan ditched an aircraft over the ocean then sunk to the bottom of the Mariana trench. Surely they thought of that? They thought of plasma shields. Or perhaps it's sci-fi fantasy and realisn doesn't actually matter.

How does vacuuming air out increase buoyancy? It works the other way around you Black person moron. How dare you call me stupid while you sit there clapping with poo.

They didn't think of plasma shields. The Covenant did, and then the UNSC reverse engineered them. The same UNSC that allowed a priceless SPARTAN II to die because an open wound exposed to vacuum must of course mean instant death because space bad.

Why have we been having so many pointless Halo threads lately?

          >Why have we been having so many pointless Halo threads lately?
Because the abortion of a television show has unironically made a small number of zoomers who missed the heyday interested in the universe, but as they were introduced by the arguably the worst piece of Halo media, their interest is as vapid, stupid, and moronic as the fanfiction-tier "adaptation" that's making them spam this low-quality shit.

That and the actually-neat 5.56 homemade BR have put it back on the front-burner for some people.

The fact that the Halo community has gone insane from not having a good game in nearly 14 years and the fact more and more people are waking up to the fact that 343 are complete idiots that have done nothing but run this franchise into the ground

The Halo community was ALWAYS insane. Even over 14 years ago you'd see asinine threads on Spacebattles trying to insist that their guys are super tough or their designs make reasonable real-life sense. The Fallout guys at least admit there was no consistency early on followed by tackling an aesthetic that doesn't make any sense even in universe. These guys have been like this since forever.

Suddenly I'm reminded of debating Halogays in middle school about a decade or two ago. One insisted that MC had physical strength comparable to Mario. You know, the guy who lifts and kicks an entire castle in https://youtu.be/cCK0WwUVl48?si=KBVNJV0weEy0SuNy&t=163

I bet would be embarrassed saying that again today. But yeah, Halogays of the past wank the setting too and not just the Halo Rings. I'm talking the UNSC gets wanked.

Which ones in particular? For the stuff that is used in the games I know a lot ignore the fact that it was designed with rule of cool and gameplay in mind even something which Staten acknowledges in Contact Harvest

The modern Halo fandom is a different beast from the one when the first Halo game was released. Hell, when Halo 2 was released, there was a rather intense outcry in the Halo fandom that we could play as an Elite. The early Halo fandom was a pile of immature twats who hated the alien weapons and the Covenant. It wasn't until well after that the fandom became more mature and enjoyed the stronger sci-fi elements over the good ol' bullet-shooter ooh-rah spess mahrenes shit. They were always dipshits.

In hindsight, it's kinda funny the UNSC didn't invest more into small arms. True, the average soldier uses their small arms alright and the Spartans are few. But these same people will blow trillions making super soldiers, reverse engineered energy shields in the middle of being genocided by aliens, and doesn't make some exclusive gun for their super soldiers.

They would shoot my planes out of the sky easily considering they're cloth and wood, and there'd be no way I could communicate quickly enough to coordinate fires to prevent my force being destroyed piecemeal. The spartans can engage at ranges where my men wouldn't even be able to see them.

The only thing I can think of doing is clustering all my guys in a defensive position so that they have to engage all of us at once head-on, but even then it just makes it easier for them kill us all at the same time and gives them the initiative.

The answer is that I don't. They kill me.

They already have the intelligence on how you will likely fight and what sort of equipment they are likely to face because of their education. To make matters worse their sensor suites will all but certainly let them gain a serious situational awareness advantage over you even without external support. It really comes down to how they are armed, if they have long range options it's not going to be fun. Even if they are reliant on close range weapons it's pretty likely the men will rout when giant cyborgs from the future start pasting people with inhuman speed and efficiency.

Spartan IIs in the books are fully educated in the history of warfare and study tactics, stratagems, and technological developments from basically every era of history as part of their training from childhood. In addition they are neurologically augmented so as to be able to process new information and think faster than regular humans. It's sort of background lore that became irrelevant as the franchise moved towards successive Spartan generations being more human and relatable and personalized but Master Chief and the other Spartan IIs are optimized cyborgs that are closer to military hardware than human beings - the entire narrative point of pairing Chief with Cortana was the interplay between him being the efficient, tireless killing machine despite being a human while the AI is the more emotional and personable one. All of the Spartans who washed out of the program during the latter augmentations without brain damage were kept on as military intelligence because they are all military geniuses. They are going to know what to roughly expect from your men and what they can rely on their equipment to handle or not.

I'm pretty sure their armour is actually pretty much immune to anything short of an anti-tank rifle, their vulnerability to small arms is just a gameplay conceit. So basically everyone that doesn't have a frigging field gun isn't going to do shit, even if they could hit them.

  14. 2 months ago

You can't. Spartans have canonically faced much worse threats than that on their own and won. You're essentially asking if a WW1 company sized element can beat them. You don't even need to be a general, this is Lieutenant and Captain level echelon sizes here.

  15. 2 months ago
    Anonymous

You can't. They're likely to attack at night and should they be hit the shield will light them up but that requires that you spot them in the first place. A understrength company isn't stopping them with modern equipment, a ww1 certainly isn't even going to be a speed bump. Their armor is sealed so gas is useless, every inch of their armor is rated for .30-06 minus the visors and I'd bet those can survive a few impacts before failure. Only way they might be killed is by having every artillery battery in the sector drop every shell in their storage into the area they're in and then shoot anything that moves. Again, assuming they don't infiltrate in the dark and kill everyone without us even knowing until there's a knife in your skull.

Tl;dr, we're fricked may as well suckstart the nearest firearm

Halo player since Xbox here, you don't need to make a community that's nothing but underaged kids look bad. They do a good job doing that on their own.

first i'd realize that anyone who's played the games would know that if a single spartan can take on much less favorable odds alone, that an army with absolutely nowhere near the technological level of the covenant wouldn't be able to do jack shit against fricking 4 spartans
