they definitely could. you are allowed to kill civilians as long as you take every reasonable precaution possible to NOT kill them, if that makes sense. drone striking a market? no. striking an oil refinery while everyone is off-shift? yes.

It is like having a few hundred fire extinguishers in your barn and the neighbors house goes up in flames and you just let them burn. It makes no sense as putting out the fire now is the greatest chance to keep your barn from going up. The best part is you don't have to fight the fire so there is no bodily risk to you.

This was FDR's actual comment on lend lease:
          > "Suppose my neighbor's home catches fire, and I have a length of garden hose four or five hundred feet away. If he can take my garden hose and connect it up with his hydrant, I may help him to put out his fire...I don't say to him before that operation, "Neighbor, my garden hose cost me $15; you have to pay me $15 for it."... I don't want $15--I want my garden hose back after the fire is over. "

If Russia wants to build a missile or garrison a soldier ever again, they'll need to seek terms from Ukraine.

I doubt Putin's fragile ego will let it get to that point anyways. I can genuinely see the moronic half-monkey manlet deploying low yield nukes unless he gets assassinated.

                No, sanctions.
China can't uncouple from the western economy and the west has shown that it's prepared to endure some short-term pain to do so.
Also, it's in the west's long-term interests to uncouple from China the same way they just did from Russia and everybody knows this. China can't afford to give them a reason to accelerate that process.

                >I can genuinely see the moronic half-monkey manlet deploying low yield nukes unless he gets assassinated
If he nukes, he'll be assassinated then. Either by his own people, or by western low yield nukes. Or more likely by a swarm of cruise missiles.
It's been leaked repeatedly that the west has communicated that they know his movements and will target him personally in the event of nuclear detonation.

Makes sense. I hope there's some escalation soon, it's been pretty boring since the first few days.

From the perspective of the west Russia will have massively crippled itself for generations for absolutely no gain and at a trivial cost to the west.

That's not a win. The only one winning here is the US of A, the rest of the west is suffering.

                >The only one winning here is the US of A, the rest of the west is suffering
Everybody is winning, in different ways.

Ukraine is paying a high price for what they're getting but the national identity, the cementing of western ties and fast track into the western alliances and most of all, guaranteed security from Russia, are worth paying for.

Europe finally gets off Russia's energy dick and can now tell Russia to frick off to their face, the EU has developed a few, limited, teeth and NATO has become a much more serious organisation.

The Baltics will be more unified and secure and significantly increase their military alliances.

Everyone who's dealing with Russian threats, incursions or lost pieces of themselves to Russia stands a good chance of getting those pieces back and being able to stand up to and repel Russia in the future.

For the Asian-Pacific nations, China's biggest ally is being dismantled and expansionist empire building is being demonstrated to be an utterly doomed doctrine tantamount to national suicide.

Even countries as far from Russia as Australia or Japan are profiting from this by China's new insecurity about conflict.
Taiwan has so much better economic and military ties and security allies than it did a year ago, everybody has grown gonads about standing up to China's bluster.
