Some days just make you happy to be alive.

Some days just make you happy to be alive. Just out in the woods for a few hours, walking and exploring and shooting a bit at the first emerging chipmunks of the year or dead trees you've carved a few targets on. I love the winter and wish it wasn't so short nowadays, but the transition as things start to wake up while there is still nice snow too is also real nice. For all the crap we see online, god it's a beautiful world sometimes, I'm glad to be in it, and I hope all of you anons are able to as well. What recent outdoors shooting/wandering have you all done? Or upcoming plans? What are your favorite woods (or prairie or mountains or whatever is around you) weapons? I wish all you anons a good (or at least better) day.

Find a quiet spot in the woods and do the needful. Choose a place where nobody will find your corpse and they can forget you ever polluted their lives.

Dumb city people, particularly amusing given your constant efforts to exterminate all the rats that fill your edifices of concrete and asphalt.
      >nooooo chipmunks are so cuuuute
When they reach a critical mass they are destructive pests. They dig holes everywhere, they destroy every single bird nest and eggs, they'll eat the heads off of mouse babies or whatever else and leave them around, etc. Let them get away from me a few years go when I had no cats and used the bucket method, ended up drowning around 210 of them over the course of a few months before they got back under control. Used my tractor to dig mass graves for the little shits. Better to not let that happen.

I thinned them and the red squiggers out with a .36 Navy to get more grey squirrels to eat.
They live a long time, you only need to do it once every 5 years or so

Go back and read again; I made less red squiggers and chipmorons, and more fox squirrels, because they are the best for eating and least destructive

          >They live a long time, you only need to do it once every 5 years or so
Yes, once I got them back down to a normal level then it's just maintenance mode, blast a few a year, cats take care of some. There are still plenty around but they become normal. It's just if they hit some sort of runaway level that things get bad, so it pays to not let it get that far. Probably it aligns somewhat as well with stuff like whether it's a mast year for acorns or other food sources, but the winters getting milder and milder is throwing things out of whack too. Though I don't have many issues with squirrels of either kind myself, lots of grays but not too many once I properly sorted out the feeder situation.

Dude, with a pair of snowshoes and a 4wd, in early spring the Rockies are your oyster

Thanks anon. Love mountains, north midwest is real winter but too darn flat for me personally. Idaho and Montana are on my list for sure, I'd really like to carve out a solid few weeks to properly enjoy some long outdoors time.

We had too many up in the woods here because of all the old stone walls, they were outcompeting the grey squirrels since they had too much habitat. A bag of .380 roundballs and a box of .22 shorts one autumn balanced things out nicely.

I wish the Least Weasel that visits would stick around and ravage the red squiggers pissing all over the barn and burrowing into the garage

Most young right wingers agree that govts and corportations are raping the planet, they oppose the consumer-side controls that are supposed to somehow remedy it as the naked control grasping schemes that they are.
Boomers are just "muh taxes", "muh gummint regalashun", but who cares what they think, they are braindad greedmonsters

              >why is global warming a left vs right issue
Fossil fuel industry is very rich and they aren't retards anon. Same as with smoking or pumping sugar into everything, and I mean literally the same playbook in some cases with some of the same lobbyists and strategists. Turning an issue that should cut across all of society into a polarized issue is one of the most surefire ways to delay anything happening on it. As you say, trying to keep things from changing in wild unknown ways should be a natural conservative position. It's right there in the fucking name, "conservative", NOT embarking on huge risky disruptive experiments that we don't know where they'll lead to.

Like, it's completely reasonable to have divides over what to do about it. I personally am not in favor of those "green new deal" efforts for example, I'd prefer to internalize carbon emission costs into fuel via a 2-sided market. There are other proposals as well, "what's the cheapest best way to stop this problem" is the most classic basic form of very good political debate. But it's sad how for decades so much of the right managed to be convinced that
              >"let's embark on an irreversible pumping of quadrillions of extra watts into our global heat engine when we're currently doing well with climate as it is and also chain ourselves to global fossil fuel markets which pump tons of money to assholes that hate us YOLO lol"
was a good idea. That does seem to be slowly changing. It'll be an amazing day when shitholes the world over watch the prices of crude crash.

It’s one of those things that I really wish weren’t wedge issues, literally the only argument against pivoting to more renewable energies and nuclear is that big oil won’t get their cut anymore but somehow that is enough for half the country to delude themselves that the climate isn’t actually changing at all because it still snows sometimes

Nah CR2032s have a temp range of like -40 to 125. Part of the reason they are popular in these applications.

Beautiful, where at? While I enjoy northern maine/nh/vt a lot and they'll always be my home, I've made a goal to get out west more in the next few years during the winter. Helps that those tend to be less popular tourist seasons.
