Because throwing corpses at a minimally manned area meant to act as a meat grinder was eventually going to break through, there was no momentum, simply the Ukrainians stepping back to the next line of defense.
feeding a poor doggo conscripts is literally animal abuse, think of how much meth, AIDs, and krokodil were in that. You may as well feed they nothing but tofu
100K died, 100K finished their contracts/refuseniks (early in war is ok), 200K heavily wounded (EU numbers 250-300k casualties at least). Over 700K have been in Ukraine
Left 300K in Ukraine now, of which 200K are mobiks, and another 30-40K Wagner
of course they need another 500K without mobiks the frontlines would have collapsed months ago

I think many left before that after Feb 24th. Bribery being what it is for example, those middle income families types would have got the frick out of town once it became not a gay parade in downtown Kyiv.
When the first mobilization went down, people fled and went into hiding in fricking droves. I'm dying to fricking know just how many they actually managed to scrounge down, and how many they are expecting to get with the second attempt.
I was worried for some friends over there at first, but it seemed to not have bothered them, so perhaps the effort to try to gather manpower wasn't very effective.
stall? russians won and ukraine left the area. There was no "stall", what you're looking for is ukraines "counter offensive" which may or may not happen.
So the Russians stopped after they took Soledar because it was their objective?
Not Bakhmut. Not Sloviansk or Kramatorsk. Not the rest of the Donetsk Oblast. *Soledar*. A seven-month offensive and the goal was a small town with a salt mine.
They lost momentum. Which is why its so moronic to focus all of your troops into one small area. You can make gains, but only for a moment until you lose momentum. Doubling down like this is only good in a short run, but it can bite you back in the long run
>They lost momentum
what exactly are you basing this assertion off of? you think they should just endlessly surge forward until they're cut off and surrounded?
Having momentum is important when it comes to an offensive. The fact that they stalled in that specific town means they lost momentum and have limited offensive capabilities. A good offensive would have a town captured along with having momentum after the capitulation of it. Just so you know, soledar is not a big town.
Or maybe they can reinforce their gains. Them stalling means they overextert themselves and can't go any further than that. You can have momentum while having a secured rear guard.
Ukraine needs to hammer the Russian supply points. Weaken their ability to stay in Soledar.
Ukraine knows Soledar has become a political deal to the Russians, even though it's a fricking worthless mining village. Long as the Vatniks fight over Soledar, they're not threatening Bakhmut.
With what? Ukraine has no air force, no artillery, no helicopters. They can do nothing but seethe in trenches and drop grenades from a drone on occasion. This war is already over, Ukraine would prefer to genocide its own people rather than admit defeat.
>With what? Ukraine has no air force, no artillery, no helicopters
They literally shelled soledar like yesterday killing dozens of conscripts/wagnerites while on camera. Soledar is in range of Ukrainian artillery and missile strikes.

Let's see how long Wagner can keep what it has in Soledar, constantly bombarded by precision artillery.
Turn that place into a death trap for the Vatniks.
I wonder if you're being ironic or if you really believe that orc propaganda. Either way you should probably go leave and stay there if you think Ukraine is the one killing their own people and not Russians who fully believe Ukrainians are lesser people who deserve to be exterminated for disobeying Mother Russia.
Keep telling yourself that Vatnik. You haven't destroyed a single HIMARS.
And precision artillery can really frick up your shit, real fast.
This was what I was thinking too, just kind of looking at it, would it not be easier to "keep russia in" soledar, than to keep them out after a point? If they try to breakout, they only have so many avenues to do it from Soledar, and a rapid reaction force can intercept any breakout attempt toward the west pretty fast. They boke the siege, captured the town, now are just besieged in a spot that isn't gaining them much.
Especially since Wagner's leader has personally made Soledar a HUGE deal to his ambitions. Potentially losing it all would really put a dent in his star. He'll defend it fiercely.

Now all of their other ships are so fricking scared they wont approach anywhere near.
The easiest way to solve the Russian problem is to kill every single on of them. Thankfully they seem to agree with this
Which should be ruthlessly taken advantage.
THREATEN Soledar. Force the Vatniks to defend it. Blast their supplies and troop concentrations in and around the city, and make their position untenable real fast.
Not to mention the Russians made such a fricking DEAL out of getting Soledar, it's politically untenable to not leave a substantial force there to try to hold it.
Ukrainians will exploit this by forcing the Russians to defend whatever they've seized.

beyond "taking soledar" there wasn't a plan beyond that probably. Chances are the Wagner guys saw a chance to push, over commited to that part of the line, made some gains at high cost, all to run into a second line of defenses farther west into the city. Where do they even go from Soledar? South on the Road to Krasna Hora and then Bakhmut , exposing themselves to counter attack to the west and north? Ignore Bakhmut and fight north to Siversk? Do they just strike out west into the fields and range roads and continue that way? Soledar is a take and hold objective to inhibit north/south logistics for Bakhmut, it's not really the place you're going to see massive break through that destabilizes the front line. Even with the portion of Soledar the Russians control, the Ukes still have the railroads and roadways to Bakhmut anyway.
Maybe I'm missing something specific about Soledar, but it really doesn't seem like the kind of place that's going to precipitate a major offensive operation.

The. Salt. Mines.
It is very nearly the only location in Ukraine where they can build up a fortified ammo & equipment dump.
The trick here is going to be to deny them that opportunity. Let them keep & keep defending Soledar ... and make it bloody expensive ... but do not allow ammo & equipment to reach Soledar and get stored inside the salt mines. Blast everything in-transit, seal the entrances with aggressive bombardment.
Deny, deny, deny. Make them pay in blood for every hour they attempt to leverage that as a secure bunker. WITHOUT destroying the salt mines themselves ... it's a very important economic resource in several different ways. They need to be preserved for re-opening after the war is ended.

soledar is important as the base for a northern pincer against bakhmut, the russians still have to set up a southern pincer by taking klishchivka to the souther. after that if they manage to take bakhmut, its going to serve as a staging node for a push into kramatorsk and slovyansk.
of course, each of the steps is going to run into heavily fortified positions along the way
I forget the exact origin, but some guy got ahold of a bunch of re-enactor gear or something, and went to a moronic level of effort to do a bunch of stupid poses and photoshop these all together. I'm sure someone on /k/ has the full gallery

The Russian plan was a masterpiece in sheer idiocy. By spreading out their forces that much over so far a distance, they gave the Ukrainians time to fight back.
Honestly if they used all their initial forces in the Donbass only and focused on taking that only they would have got away with this with ~1000 casualties.
>And nobody on /k/ ever apologised.
I'm sorry. I mean, I don't remember exactly what you're talking about, but I generally recall some of that.
I personally would not have been all that mocking, except for the invasion by sea of Odessa and the occupation of the Red Forest. I was pretty amused by that idiocy and openly mocked anyone who was suggesting those specifically. Which also included the tens of thousands of troops swarming in from Transnistria.
And then, the vatBlack folk did exactly that for the Red Forest and fell so hard on their faces in Odessa that it effectively didn't happen at all. Apart from a division or three of VDV transitioning to underwater territory denial. Plus, without Odessa there was no prayer of Transnistria happening.
And THEN, picrel happened. Also. That's when I stopped believing there was a bottom to the stupidity.
To be fair, there are also multiple foreign volunteer in ukraine. This makes me wonder how the allied organized multiple unit from different country during ww2.
There is some foreign volunteers that join the legion or become a part of the regular military of Ukraine. Ukraine still accepts foreigners in their regular units.
Did they ever finish the tactical pause they announced right after Lysychansk was captured? It's been six months, someone should probably go check up on them.
Well, Wagner's leader Prozakob***h couldn't resist spitting in the face of Russia's military by claiming all the credit for Soledar. So Russia's military spit in his face back by saying, "We did all the work, loser."
So now Soledar has become a pissing contest between Wagner and the Ministry Of Defense, with BOTH their reputations on the line.....for a fricking mining village.
Put simply, the Ukrainians can exploit the Vatnik egos to make them defend this little nothing town. Neither Wagner nor the Russian military want to be the one who "lost Soledar" because they know their rival will use it against them.
The town is too small to commit more than a brigade to it, which is the minset of the ukranians. by stuffing their side of Soledar with many thousands of troops, the Russians are just going to get artillery called down on them all day.
soledar is important as the base for a northern pincer against bakhmut, the russians still have to set up a southern pincer by taking klishchivka to the souther. after that if they manage to take bakhmut, its going to serve as a staging node for a push into kramatorsk and slovyansk.
of course, each of the steps is going to run into heavily fortified positions along the way
in terms of overall strategic importance bakhmut is a stepping stone to the twin cities south of the oskil river, soledar is important on the local level in terms of being able to take bakhmut. if bakhmut is taken, the russians then have a much much larger and more difficult battle on their hands to really break the front wide open
The IRONY is that if Russia hadn't blown Soledar way out of proportion, they could have just calmly focused on the next step.
But political rivalries and petty bickering, as well as the desperate need for ANY kind of win, resulted in the Russians severely blowing Soledar out of proportion.
Soledar's a stepping stone, not a major prize like Wagner is trying to make.
and it wasn't the first choice too, it was because Bakhmut was way too hard at 4 times the size
Imagine being the 46th airmobile brigade calmly swatting small recon squads and then suddenly the while Wagner and thousands of VDV appear over the horizon
There is some stationed in bakhmut, I think. Although targeting soledar is for regular artillery than missile strikes. They should save himars for important targets or if the have those shotgun misssiles that is filled with metal balls.
>if bakhmut is taken
That will already be a drawn out battle which will dwarf Soledar. AND they will have to continuously defend Soledar while attempting to assault Bakhmut.
Vatniggistan hasn't even taken Soledar YET, and it's already a Pyrrhic assault without any gain to speak of. They've literally created their own cauldron and jumped into it.
because psionic weapon is still a weapon, they felt my righteous hatred and necked themselves en masse so i'm gonna say it once again:
kill russian toddlers
wipe this parasite nation off this planet
let russia crumble and be forgotten for eternity
amen
Because first days urban fights were for the sake of winning some time and establishing proper defensive lines on the other side of the city.
Ukies just retreated there then and kept smoking vatnik hordes like they did before.
What this battle showed me is that even when Russians supposedly "regain the initiative", they still seem to have given up on armored pushes. It's infantry, mostly on fricking foot and artillery. How are they planning to exploit successes like this if they don't use mechanized forces?
Maybe they were desperate for winning "something", and as soon as they were able to put a flag in the center of Soledar they just said mission accomplished. What else can they do now?
Because throwing corpses at a minimally manned area meant to act as a meat grinder was eventually going to break through, there was no momentum, simply the Ukrainians stepping back to the next line of defense.

Putin had those contracts extended indefinitely
Which in turms fuels resentment towards Wagner Group. They get to go home in 6 months and make plenty of cash.

Have you ever heard the things called "tactical pause"?
I know when the Russians pause, it means they've exhausted themselves, lol.
Typically you should be able to advance more than 2 kilometers before needing to pause and re-organize your logistics.
It doesn't help there are multiple factions involved in the Russian efforts. It's not just Wagner and Russian military.
It's ALSO the Separatists (remember them, lol?) joining this party, particularly Somalia and Sparta Battalion & some LNR regiment.
That's a recipe for chaotic command.
To be fair, there are also multiple foreign volunteer in ukraine. This makes me wonder how the allied organized multiple unit from different country during ww2.
I think they've all been put in the Ukrainian Foreign Legion.
To my knowledge, there are no PMCs on the Ukrainian side.
But the Ukrainians do have partisans who only act in semi-concert with their regular military.
There is some foreign volunteers that join the legion or become a part of the regular military of Ukraine. Ukraine still accepts foreigners in their regular units.

and it wasn't the first choice too, it was because Bakhmut was way too hard at 4 times the size
Agreed. Let regular artillery hammer the Vatniks at Soledar. Keep drawing them in like a moth to a flame.
>if bakhmut is taken
That will already be a drawn out battle which will dwarf Soledar. AND they will have to continuously defend Soledar while attempting to assault Bakhmut.
Vatniggistan hasn't even taken Soledar YET, and it's already a Pyrrhic assault without any gain to speak of. They've literally created their own cauldron and jumped into it.
>They've literally created their own cauldron and jumped into it.
Zisters...did...did the cauldron stab us in the back? Tell me this isn't true...
because psionic weapon is still a weapon, they felt my righteous hatred and necked themselves en masse so i'm gonna say it once again:
kill russian toddlers
wipe this parasite nation off this planet
let russia crumble and be forgotten for eternity
amen
Oh frick off
Because first days urban fights were for the sake of winning some time and establishing proper defensive lines on the other side of the city.
Ukies just retreated there then and kept smoking vatnik hordes like they did before.
What this battle showed me is that even when Russians supposedly "regain the initiative", they still seem to have given up on armored pushes. It's infantry, mostly on fricking foot and artillery. How are they planning to exploit successes like this if they don't use mechanized forces?
>did the Soledar offensive stall?
When did this get called "the Soledar offensive?" Wasn't this "the Bakhmut Offensive" just two weeks ago?
Maybe they were desperate for winning "something", and as soon as they were able to put a flag in the center of Soledar they just said mission accomplished. What else can they do now?
