It's a holdover from early in the war when vatniks would post Ukie footage/images and claim them as Russian. Doesn't really happen these days.
I remember putting the watermark in the middle of a picture or having it bounce around a video came much more common in 2020 because reporters constantly had their videos stolen and edited by Republican operatives who would just trim the dimensions of the video to cut out watermarks if their was a watermark on the side.
It's annoying as fuck, but extremely necessary to fight enemy propaganda.
