Finland also brings being able to set up like 40 km from a large portion of Russia's nukes. Those nukes are now effectively worthless as destroying them on take off is the a lot easier than any other part of the flight.

    >Any cool or unique weapon systems?

Finland has the largest artillery of the whole EU and is VERY good at using it. Also, most equipment is NATO compatible and due to high education and conscription system, there's nearly a million soldiers available at any moment (and that's 20% of the population).

    Here's the artillery though:

    >700 howitzers
    >700 heavy mortars
    >100 multiple rocket launchers

If anything the war in ukraine has proven how little we need NATO but now if there is a world war between russia and nato where will the fighting happen if not in the nato country with largest border with russia. We just volunteered to be the battleground for ww3 and it doesnt matter who wins because we will be trampled regardless. The politicians here used to know this before they totally sold out to the west

            Anonymous

            >Sold out to the west
Our interests align, Finnbro. There are really only three teams on the planet now - Russia, China and what you call 'The West', which collectively encompasses the US, the EU and a number of non-EU states taking part in the same systems of banking and trade. The West represents the largest and most affluent of those three groups. BRICS would be comparable on some level in population but not in soft or hard power - if BRICS were a single unified entity, which they're not. India arguably is aligning with The West and China/Russia are not in agreement over who is the junior partner, and so there is no partnership at all beyond a theoretical one.

Isolationist countries aren't going to survive in the world economy as a simple function of growth. World banks, foreign investment and financial frickery is allowing Western economies to upsize logarithmically, and the nations thumbing their nose at that are being left behind, decade after decade. Russia's age is showing now, and China, while industrialized and modernized by the West, is also being replaced as the West is courting India and South America of late instead.

I'm not sure why it would serve Finland to just not have a side at all. The rest of the nations will move on without them, which might be fine for you in your lifetime, but if no growth is taking place, it will look bleak for the country in a handful of generations, when they become the third world undeveloped labor force that other parts of the world are serving as now - desperate to sell out time and effort for the modern lifestyle, because they cannot find it at home.

      >there's nearly a million soldiers available at any moment
Fricking moron, Finland doesn't have the logistics to raise "a million soldiers at any moment". The wartime force is 280 000 for a reason; there's only 300 000 assault rifles to give out + ~100 000 East-German and Chinkshit AKMs for auxilliary forces. Those "million" (actually 890 000) is the total capacity of the reserve; first the 280k are called, which then will be reinforced with the remainen 610 000 old and fat boomers. Not to mention that mobilizing that many soldiers, let alone 20% of the population at once is nearly an impossible task to do in time before an invasion. Much different than "a million at any moment".

One thing I think many people are overlooking is that they both have their own military industries (producing both their own designs and license-produced things) and have the potential to build a lot of tanks, aircraft, artillery, trucks and ammunition if the money and political will was there.

Would be cool, but I don't think either Finland or Sweden has particularly much to gain from spending a lot on their naval production compared to other types of hardware.

Sweden could maybe stand to build a few more submarines and maybe lend/sell Finland a few, and a joint purchase of a few of those neat torpedo-tube launched tomahawk missiles would be cool.

    Literally nothing.

They are far more useful to NATO as buffer states. This only hurts NATO by making direct confrontation with Russia itself more likely.

Meanwhile, another decade another distraction from China. There was supposed to be a "Pivot to Asia" in the early 2010s and the US took a U-turn and fricked up Libya instead, creating a refugee crisis and a perpetual civil-war, while giving China a greenlight to do whatever it wants for another decade.

They are natural. What I don't like is how Europe and Western media will use any excuse to distract from CHINA, the biggest threat. Their over-emphasis on Russia is intended to be a distraction from China because Russia is a small market they can afford to dump.

Before the recent 2022 Ukraine war broke out, Europe was all aboard with China. Greece sold off its port to China in 2017 and again in 2021, and vetoed an EU resolution condemning its human rights abuses.
Germany sold dozens to hundreds of engines to power China's warships and submarines in spite of a 1989 EU embargo enacted following the Tienanmen Square Massacre, and only just recently paused sales. France built the Taishan Nuclear Powerplant and the Wuhan Virology Lab in China, and last year outright said it had no problem with China.

It contained a terrible lesson that it was ignored at the time: The Russians could take absolutely terrible causalities, and their army would still fight on and grind forward. Soviet units rarely surrender with units often fighting grimly to the bitter end. They reached Stalingrad-level casualties at one point and they didn't blink. This should have been terrible, terrible news to anyone expecting the Red army to collapse and a terrifying prospect if they got their shit together.

The idea that the Soviets "won" because the treaties say they win are misleading. Wanna know why Russia is so fricked right now, beyond the war? Demographics. What fricked up their demographics? It wasn't just 1991.
What removed millions of people from Russia forever that could frick girls?
Dictatorships don't lend themselves to domestic growth the same way the West did after WW2, so what you ended up with was a giant void left after Hitler danced all over Eastern Europe that's now indirectly biting them in the ass.
It's also probably why they've forced themselves to fight this war because they'll turn irrelevant and incapable of fighting literally just if you wait them out.

After attempting to take all of it, yeah. And suffering an embarrassing amount of casualties due to rampant incompetence.
Kinda like what’s happening now, now that you mention it.

Russia cucked Finland so bad and made it their b***h boy that there's even a term for it (Finlandization), and these fricking restrictions imposed on Finns were praised by the Stockholm-syndrome suffering locals as a "great model" up until recent years, as if we had invented and adapted it ourselves.

He's right. That the USSR's performance in the Winter War was humiliating for Moscow is true, but it's also true that they got a lot better merely in the span of that war and towards the end could have taken the entire place had Stalin so desired. For all their losses the USSR had resources the spare, Finland did not. The peace treaty was accordingly a hard one for the Finns.
In the early winter war the red army was, well, "otherwise preoccupied" and then when it got around to it out some pretty massive pressure on Finland without committing much to it. Once again it was by Stalin's choice that the place wasn't conquered (seems he just wanted the place out of his hair ASAP so he could throw everythign against Berlin), and once again the even harsher peace terms confirm this.
Then in the cold war the Russian leash was on tight. There's one incident form just after WW2 where the Finnish PM had to run around town in the middle of the night placating the Soviet ambassador because the president had simply decided to go on vacation without first getting Moscow's approval. Finland had to refuse Marshal plan aid. Finland had to hold show trials against various politicians, convicting them for starting the winter war via ex post facto laws and in direct violation of the Finnish constitution.
Finland did manage to remain mostly independent, but if you think they simply kicked the USSR to the curb and then went on doing whatever they wanted regardless of what Moscow thought then you're completely oblivious to history here and just inserting hat you think should have happened instead.

By that logic, China can attack Hawaii and Alaska. Shit isn't anywhere near the Atlantic Ocean. Or Guam, or Marshall Islands, or Pitcairn Islands, or British Indian Ocean Territory, or Palau (French Polynesia) or loads of other places.

Here's demonstrations in broad daylight in Sweden with people waving PKK leader Ocalan's pictures. Swedish MPs were even campaigning on his behalf here. These are regular occurrences in Sweden.

Freedom of speech. Kurds are a sizable and loud minority as well. I've noticed a marked increase in Pro-Kurd stickers in Stockholm. Not that it will do anything, but the Kurds are evidently seething at not being the pet-minority anymore, impotently I might add. Kurds are not a hill Swedes are truly prepared to die on when set against national security. They were a luxury cause. If Kurds don't like it then they can go to some non-NATO country like Ireland or wherever the frick. Hopefully Swedish politicians will refrain from trying to save oppressed brown people the world over after this.
