You're now aware that in the 1980s, when the F-117 was still in deep cover, the aircraft were stored in hangars or under erectable shelters with A-4s placed around to make it look like a normal military base. The USAF/NRO would tell the unit to move their F-117s inside whenever a Soviet satellite flew overhead. To the best of public knowledge, the USSR never saw through this facade, never tasked spy satellites to observe the base more closely, and never tasked spies with getting jobs at the base or getting imagery/data from it.

And all the UK had to do was post a photo from

What the frick are you talking about? People figured out Trump posted a classified image on twitter within minutes from basic deduction (wait, why does he have a printed out photo of a commercial satellite photo? why is it such high quality?), hours from open source investigation (why is it at an odd angle? why is it that any photo taken from that angle had to be taken by a high altitude spy plane over iranian territory or a satellite?) and about a day from open source investigation continuing and admissions from the government (there was only one imagery capable satellite in that position at that time and it was an NRO satellite, US government officials admitting it was leaked).

It's literally easier to just take the damn photo from a commercial imagery company. It's enough resolution to identify the Su-57 and you don't need to risk releasing classified material.

        Anonymous

The original source for that claim was the russian MoD, so take that as you will.
Ukraine has never disclosed the nature of the weapon as far as I know, other than the fact that it's a suicide drone with a range of 1000km (which to be fair, does match the range of the Tu-141). Furthermore, I find it suspicious that no photos of identifiable fragments have been posted anywhere as proof and quite frankly I think it's absurd that a massive subsonic recon drone from the '70s with no ability to safely navigate at low altitude could penetrate the IADS and strike a strategic target deep within the heart of russia, even despite its obvious deficiencies.
It's weird that western media would report the MoD's claims uncritically. It's not unfeasible, but there isn't a shred of evidence, near as I can tell.

This is about Patriot, who has to counter low cost weapon like Kalibr, with far more expensive interceptions.. That is the reasonable argument, not your unrelated tangent. I am questioning why not CRAM? the answer is maybe in this other response, the patriot was made to defend international visitors, and the top brass, of course at the cost of ukraine personel and lives

You say the patriot must counter the kalibr, and this is not worthwhile due to the kalibr being cheaper
What you haven't taken into account, is that as a proportional of military budget and industrial capacity, the kalibr costs Russia far more than the patriot, as the west is obscenely wealthier than Russia.

Obviously not. Those planes are a non factor in this conflict. The question is rather how many AAMs Ukraine has left in stock. We are seeing them starting to phase out soviet legacy equipment in favor of western systems. Which substantially prolongs their ability to engage in the kind of attritional warfare this conflict has evolved into. This way Ukraine is able to turn their initial material and industrial capacity disadvantage into an advantage, as they now can draw on stocks and production capabilities from multiple countries. The more they shift to western equipment the better their position becomes. The real bottleneck is not even material, it’s training. But here they also have an advantage now as they can draw on NATOs trainer pool using NATOs training facilities.

tldr: Ukraine can now train more soldiers in a given timeframe than Russia and has bigger stocks and production to draw from.

Using patriots against Air Breathing Targets makes little sense since Ukraine already has s300s and BUKs that can do that. They’ll save the Patriots for ballistic missiles intercepts.

The problem is that even with two batteries, they can’t point the radar to the North, East and South simultaneously. That’s how the Houthis(Iran) caught Saudi Arabia off guard early on. The Saudis had their radar systems pointed towards Iraq/Iran, but the missiles came from Yemen.

Two batteries means they will have sufficient FAAD wire frame coverage for any BMOA that Russian Forces might have that threatens Kiev. Doubtless, Intel suggested that this would have been sufficient for the job or they wouldn't have bothered in the first place.

Unfortunately the only remaining 941 was stripped of its missiles about 20 years ago and was due to be scrapped at the end of 2022. The Bosporus is also only 360 ft at its deepest point and 43ft at it shallowest (a Typhoon is 39 ft tall and would be easily visible when underwater from that depth). As much as I'd love to see it get a nice send-off, it's not going to happen.

The question is how many S300 and Buk are left, how long they are projected to last and what can be done to extend the timeframe by gradually replacing them with western systems you would need to train operators for which takes time.
