so, US Navy just parked two landing ships right next to Kaliningrad

https://english.pravda.ru/news/world/153989-gunstron_kearsarge_poland/
So, burgers just sailed USS Kearsage (Wasp-class amphibious assault ship ) and USS USS Gunston Hall (dock landing ship) to Gdynia port in poland, basically a spitting distance from Kaliningrad Oblast.
Thats about two thousand marines with bunch of F-35s and AH-1Zs as air support.

Sure, once all residents have been relieved of everything except for 1 set of weather-appropriate clothing, signed over all financial holdings, and been marched at gunpoint into Russia proper after signing a form permitting them to be immediately and summarily killed if they're ever seen in Poland again.

Ya know, instead of risking males only why doesn't Russia train female soldiers for the invasion of Ukraine? Men are clearly not volunteering in the numbers they want, so they supplement the numbers with women. The Soviet Union found soldiers can be trained and deployed in around 8 weeks in the 80s so it's not like they don't have the institutional memory and experience. They'll be more motivated too instead because they get to kill Slav men.

I guess I was one of those useful idiots because while I never thought they were anywhere near a peer, I did think the whole "cheap but rugged" bullshit was legit and had a place in modern warfare. Also everything just seemed logical to me, the cold war was over and they were engaged with muslim extremists all over the world, just like we were. Unfortunately that all turned out to be propaganda and russia fricking loves muslims so much that they promote them not only fricking their women but also invading western Europe to establish the Soviet Caliphate of Russia. Needless to say my silly delusions are all shattered and I'll go to my grave hating russians and paying every tax dollar necessary for their destruction.

I think the only part of that which is incorrect is the word "modern", and I think there are only about a half-dozen countries that could actual prosecute a "modern" war. It just happens that all of them are basically all-in for Ukraine at this point. The weapons they're going up against have literally evolved in an environment explicitly designed to make them better at killing Russians. Rats tend to get killed by rat traps too, even so they're a major force in the world.

newbie, /k/, despite the /misc/ interlopers, has always been a very libertarian and liberal board, in the classical sense of liberal. Our most famous and accepted tripgays were a anime loving Black person who I'm certain fricked his Galil at one point who went to defend Bundy, a cross dressing 2hu affecionado who had a hardon for 5.7, a rich white kid who loved the SCAR, a gunsmith who would'd do the dumbest shit and document it for us, and a quite likely glowBlack person who either worked at a nuclear thinktank at the minimum or was doing even more fun stuff then that. Prior to the big influx of tourists with the 2016 election, this board was no more racist then any other, which meant that laughing at racist jokes and other form of edgy humor without any real malice behind it. The reason that /k/ doesn't come across as a centrist and moderate is because you have the few loud morons screeching constantly, and the Democrats have made it an eternal mission to frick over gun rights so saying anything nice about them is sure to catch the ire of people who think you have to like or dislike a party's entire platform to agree with them on a singular issue.

[nospoileron/k/]I fricking miss the way the board used to when it was a bunch of broke college kids who liked anime and guns. The whole Mosin being a good rifle meme was because it was the only thing a whole lot of us could afford and afford to feed, a fricking SKS was gucci shit[/spoiler]

I've been here since 2011, thats a retcon. It was more libertarianish in the really early days like all of PrepHole but there has always been an actual right wing edge to it. Those guys shot up a crowd in minnesota and the whole board loved it

That was, what? 2019, long after the board had started to decline? It also was a pretty clear case of defending themselves from a mob, and they might have got off if they hadn't made a bunch of videos using a collection of edgy memes from here that they broke containment with.

I'm pretty sure dudes who crashed the Black person protest that ended up in attempted lynching and some shots fired in self defense against Black folk are most famous /k/ tripgays.

MicNig is still far more famous then them, and I'd argue that boof and Openheimer are as well even if they've fricked off for greener pastures.

Yeah, a group of dudes talking about starting a race war and going to a crowd of black people in military gear then shooting them. It was all an elaborate attempt at being edgy, but not actual racism.

Why even go to lengths to deny it at that point

Didn't say they weren't racist, but if they wanted to start the racewar, they probably wouldn't have tried to run away before starting shooting and brought something bigger then their CC and some mean words. They pretty clearly forgot that edgy racist memes aren't going to be so well received by the average Black person on the street, much less ones hyped up on the koolaid at BLM march. However, they fricked around and found out.

You're going to see a lot of Putin worshippers switch to some other authoritarian leaders in the next couple of years, even if they're the polar opposite of trad, "white", "non-degenerate" Russia.

Yeah, that makes sense. At the end of the day most right wingers are right wing because they think gays, trannies, and other liberal stuff is weak and unmanly, not because of any conviction.

Russia largely kept it's head down and made overtures towards working with the West in the post 9-11 world. The globalization of the internet also means that a whole lot of people have friends who're from different countries, Russia included, and while Russian leadership is all corrupt bastards, people are largely people all over the globe. The US and Russia did have some similar goals in the Middle East, particularly wanting to see ISIS defeated, and there was certainly a chance for cooperation and mutual understanding before Putin chimped out in 2014 and made it clear that giving the Russians an inch would lead nowhere good. I don't hate Russians, but I do hate Russia and if the Russians are willing to wear the chains of slavery and apathy around their neck instead of revolting, I'm not going to be heartbroken about them suffering even if I'd prefer they didn't.

If you care about the white race then you would have to counterbalance small instances of chechen rapes and murders with the fact that West vs. Russia overall is the operative battle here.

If you listen to what the liberals say, the only reason the US right wing / pro-white / anti-gay side exists anymore is because of Russian propaganda

After Russia capitulates you'll see its various holdings shrink ever further. Chechnya will move away, Georgia will move away. We may see action in Russia itself as the central government fractures. Remains to be seen, but it's not looking good.

Good. I can't wait for these two ships to be sunk by multiple anti-ship missiles

The psychos in the pentagon will keep pushing until they have you up against a wall and knife ready to stab you all while saying that you are the threat. We swooped in almost immediately after the USSR fell and began recklessly admitting new NATO members that were former Warsaw pact states or former USSR territory.

Because Russia has just proven that it isn't entitled to a sphere of influence.

You are an idiot. If Russia had a small sphere of influence in the Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia) and Ukraine, Europe would still be receiving gas and the world would be a much more peaceful place. Russia is deadly serious about not letting Ukraine become a hub for the US military. Several armies have marched right up through Ukraine and inflicted devastating losses on the Russians. China is also deadly serious about Taiwan not becoming a US military hub either.

Oh noooo, why would these countries want to join NATO as fast as possible?

Doesn't matter what lies you yellow monkeys tell about your 'reasonable sphere of influence' (deliberately impoverished slaves). They hate you and want nothing to do with you. And you simply can't stop us taking them under our vastly more prosperous protective wing. You tried in Urkaine and what did it get you? A failing war and a pariah status. Finland and Sweden balkanized against you. Your only "friends" left are the literal scum of the human race. Inbred shrieking ragheads, cannibals from Africa's dark heart, famine-wasted Korean pygmies, street-shitting cow worshipers, and worst of all, the Chinese.

Good fences make good neighbors. Major powers will jockey the states between each other for influence. We just destroyed US-Russia and EU-Russia relations for decades (at minimum) over a fricking crooked shitbag country that neither the EU or USA had any tangible stake in. Not big trading partners, no military bases, no key commercial enterprises, no energy, NOTHING! Ukraine has and always was an afterthought. It's a fricking disaster and you're too stupid to realize it. You will repeat the same moronic mistake when China chokes out Taiwan because they are also deadly serious about not seeing the place become another US vassal state to project military power from. Only this time we will all get to marvel at how good the USS Ronald Reagan is as an artificial reef for fish.

              Anonymous

We already have 3 8 hour shifts. Ships just take awhile to build. If there were more welders/fitters/engineers sure it could be done faster but it takes even longer to train someone to do one of those jobs well than it does to build a ship

All of our ship yards work 24 hours a day and seven days a week? I’m not a naval guy but that would surprise me. I’m under the impression they purposely stretch out production to keep people employed.

Most big shipyards run 3 shifts yeah, granted night and evening shifts aren’t as big as day shift but they tend to get more done without all the safety people walking around. Most shipyards sandblast during the night shift as well to not bother day shift employees

the navy is currently suffering from a years long dry dock service backlog on the shipyards

                Anonymous

Not all shipyards have the capacity to build ships either. 9/10 yards can barely handle standard maintenance of boats. Only massive yards like Newport News shipbuilding actually have the space and the know-how to build new boats from the keel up

                Anonymous

In what world is "building a new shipyard" not a phenominally good investment? I get that they're big and expensive and take years to build and require lots of skilled workers, but the Navy is still gonna exist in 15 or 20 years, and they'll still need places to clean and fix their ships. Not even mentioning civilian merchant traffic.

You know, if instead of "automation" we sold it as "augmentation" (The computer reads the calipers FOR you, you just need to check it to make sure the numbers match!) we could make up for the modern "intelligence deficit" in the way that the retail and service industries are.

Then again, I've spent 10 years doing bottom of the barrel wage slaving and now I'm back in school. I didn't go learn how to weld or machine parts. I'm taking history classes and writing jerkoff papers instead. Why? idk.

That stuff exists in this industry as well. Problem is the same for us that it is for every other automated industry. Our workers are so goddamn stupid now they not only don’t know how to do it the old fashioned way. They don’t know what it actually is they are doing or why they are doing it. They just read the numbers, completely lacking an understanding of what goal they are trying to achieve. So when any job comes along that they are unfamiliar with they have no ability to apply their skills or knowledge because they do not understand what it is they are doing

this might be true for wagies but for manufacturing there's a bit more education in the people there.
Even Vocational people are going to by educated in the WHY of what they're doing, it's way too easy to frick things up not only from the QC standpoint but from a safety and a "What the frick have you done you've just broken a workstation worth a few-hundred thousand dollars" standpoint.

It is dumb to say "no one knows how to do things the old way or even why they do things" on the level of a fricking boomer working as a mechanic in a shit tier cannery (I know, I know one personally). Yes canneries and factories processing raw resources can hire morons to work on shit. Aircraft and Ship Manufacturers cannot. Incompetence in those places come as a result of higher ups pushing impossible deadlines and brow beating workers into hastened work and handwaved QC, and even then it's really difficult to pass off a non functional boat or plane, with most bullshit coming from failures of planning and design, again on the higher levels.

Well when you work for the government, your money is basically guaranteed and there’s huge profit margins thanks to the generous taxpayer. Even jobs that go to complete shit and are way over estimated costs still make companies money hand over fist. The work gets done eventually, maybe not in a timely or efficient manner, often not even correctly but it gets done. Tools get better, workers get worse over time. Seems like the nukes are the biggest issue (aside from funding, but we know congress could find that if they wanted to), just don't work on the subs there. Make San Diego and Newport News the designated nuclear repair depots, and build the corvettes and LCSs (or whatever) in Ohio.
I mean I don't have all the info that depnav has, but that seems almost trivial.

from the tone of the other articles related to the defense industrial base, looks like america has deteriorated hard

Shipbuilding is insanely expensive but has a very low floor when it comes to labor skills. As such areas with cheap labor are highly competitive, and governments subsidize local efforts to maintain capability.

If there WERE a rush to put out warships as fast as possible you can guarantee our supply chain isn’t going to be as strong as it currently is. We already have trouble sourcing microchips and bulk quantity of good steel as it is so if china decides to stop selling it to us we’re sort of fricked

The hilarious thing is that to the US, the Bonhomme Richard isn't a carrier. It's a transport as far as the USN is concerned, but the Russians and Chinese think it's a fricking capital ship or something.

Emberrasing, a little 1kt nuke for both would sink them, carriers are truly a waste of money.

A nuke would sink anything and destroy everything. There's no point in discussing things through that paradigm because there's no win condition

Witness a textbook geopolitical snookering in REAL TIME! What will Putin do? Presumably China moves on the Krygz/Tajik, and we get to see how chummy they really are with the Taliban. Presumably Turkey helps the Azies and George and Armenia suffer. Will the West play ball there? Will Israel manage to plunge Syria / Lebanon into total chaos? Will Pakistan look North or South? That leaves poor lil' Russia wondering if it gives up Vladi to focus on keeping Kaliningrad and some influence in newly formed North Sea shipping routes, or if it accepts Europe as lost and tries to quietly assume the role of Chinese Vassal State #2 and play for influence with DPRK and the Mongols...

2,000 Marines with F-35s and Cobra support could literally take all of Donbas in a week.
