So tranquilizing a suspect to prevent them from becoming aggressive in the first place will get you sued if they die, but shooting someone who reached to scratch their back because you mistakenly thought they were reaching for a weapon doesn't?

    >Tranquilizer darts are not generally included....because a human can can easily be wrestled to the ground

First sentence in and I'm already mad. Has the moron who wrote this ever wrestled anyone in their entire life? How about wrestling some dude absolutely torqued on LSD and meth? Still seems easy right?

The wikipedia jannies are the sort of person who makes our own resident jannies look like gigachads by comparison. They both do it for free, but those dudes have to constantly edit and review thousands of articles to make sure they're factual. And I say again, they are not being paid to do this, they spend all day in their basements reviewing crap on wikipedia. Every submission, every suggested edit, any little thing has to be reviewed by one of these people. At least all the jannies here do is remove posts (I assume just the offending ones they see as they lurk this shithole alongside us, and I assume they may have some discretion as to what they can do about it, if they do anything) now and then, they still have a possibility of leading normalish lives or at least posting here as well. Wiki jannies do not, they are confirmed to be terminal shut-in NEETs.
So no, the author likely hasn't seen natural sunlight in years and has only gotten up to answer the door and pay the pizza man at best.

They're also absolutely unqualified for the task, since obviously no one with any actual skills or education would do this shit for free, so that only leaves the worst Dunning-Kruger Internet warrior morons.
A few years ago, I felt a civic call after I saw an article about something from my field. I was full of outdated info, and written by someone with a tenuous grasp on the subject, and English language in general. I had spent two hours of my evening correcting the article, only to find out the next day that my edits were rejected with not even a comment from a janny, probably because I was not a named member of their super elite circlejerk club.

Using less-than-lethal preemptively makes it difficult to claim you were in immediate fear for your life, so yeah it's harder to claim self defense than "I thought he was reaching for a gun."

Can't you just use fentanyl aerosol, handcuff the unconscious perp and give him naloxone?

I meant something like a Moscow theatre, although a dart would work better in open space

Lots of people died from the after effects of moscow theatre, anon. With hundreds more having severe health issues.

That's why you give naloxone after. And if it's just a suspect without hostages, then who cares

Giving meds and sedating somebody is a very dangerous process and requires a modest amount of training. Most meds for sedation have a good chance of compromising your airway. Other sides include blood pressure dropping and respiratory depression and nausea/vomiting, which can be lethal when somebody is a drooling moron pumped full of fentanyl and versed. Also allergic reactions and metabolic abnormalities. You have ti be able to fix these. There are also tons of drugs to choose from and some are better suited to certain patients than others. Kids do well with ketamine, agitated patients get antipsychotics and benzo's, etc. There's an entire field in medicine called fricking anesthesiology that handles this shit. You have to be at least a nurse or paramedic to perform conscious sedation, or to give meds to calm an agitated patient, and they require 1:1 monitoring throughout because they can straight up just die. Haldol has a side effect of "it can just kill you lol". You also don't know what other drugs people are on and how your sedatives will interact. You can't let a borderline illiterate cop jam a needle full of random shit into a person--they can't even do the IM injection right and can't pronounce the med name. And let's not talk about the precedent of allowing POLICE to DRUG people.

Paramedics frequently get pressured by cops to sedate people because they're being annoying, which has resulted in a few deaths and notable case studies. Once police secure the scene and patient EMS will evaluate and if necessary chemically restrain the person if and only if they're so nuts they're going to hurt themselves or others, and they have to have x y z symptoms of psychiatric or medical disorders.

The solution to non cooperative suspects is a beat down or shooting them. This has the added benefit of removing then from the population.

Because if you give cops something 'non'-lethal they'll use it on annoying people for lulz.

Wait, so you're not supposed to choke and tase a suspect in the bathroom (because that's the only room without cameras) for shit and giggles until he stops breathing?

No, of course not. Tasers are designed to make it easer to capture dangerous people without getting hurt.

But what if I think that the random dude I arrested is a drug dealer that ran away in handcuffs two days ago?
