So... Is this thing a gigantic piece of shit too? Posted on March 14, 2023 by PrepHole Contributor So... Is this thing a gigantic piece of shit too?
And what makes you say that?
What a dumbfuck
I haven't seen anything in the Russian arsenal that hasn't been a huge disappointment yet and I'm grasping for something that lives up to the hype.
>Shortly after German reunification in 1990, Germany and other ex-Warsaw Pact countries found themselves with large stockpiles of the R-73 missiles or AA-11 Archers as designated by NATO, and had concluded that the R-73/AA-11's capabilities had been noticeably underestimated by the west. In particular, the R-73 was found to be both far more maneuverable, and far more capable in terms of seeker acquisition and tracking than the latest AIM-9 Sidewinder. This realization started the development of newer missiles to help compete, including the ASRAAM, IRIS-T and AIM-9X.
>Immediately after the fall of the soviet union with budget cuts for the ATF (F-22 program) looming, the US military suddenly discovers their equipment is significantly inferior and desperately needs more money for improvements
>immediately anon found a way to cope
All I'm saying is the entire reputation of the missile hinges on a single exercise in 1995 only four weeks(!) after a GAO report was released saying that F-22 procurement should be cut.
>conspiratorial thinking is good when it suits my interests
>paint Russia as dangerous peer adversary for decades for that sweet sweet defense contract
>no war but many trillions of $$$ changing hands
>headcanon is good when it suits my interests
Not an argument. Even the fucking pajeets dropped it as soon as they could.
Pulling things haphazardly out of your ass is also not an argument, cletus.
Please, give me a reason to believe the R-73 is as capable as its brochure says it is. I really want to believe.
The burden of proof is on you, you're making the claim, cletus.
Igor literally every single Russian claim has to be scrutinized and independently verified before it can be believed anymore. You cannot take anything they claim about the performance of their weapons seriously
Blow it out your ass cletus, changing IPs does not suddenly legitimise your claims.
NTA, but he's right. Russian equipment underperforms so often you have to take every claimed performance with an entire salt mine. And then you need to have your own auditors going through the salt mine. And then you need to have your auditors checked on by secret police to make sure they haven't been bribed.
That's at how many levels of suHispanicion you need to be at when dealing with Russians.
>keeps changing IPs
>more headcanon novellas
I accept your concession
You’re talking to multiple people
No cletus, samefagging with changing IPs does not make you multiple people, no matter how many more coping novellas you type.
Your bipolar disorder means nothing here.
Now take your meds.
wow, a genuine schizo. Looks like the propaganda teams will hire just about anything these days
He's baiting you for attention. Retard. Don't feed him.
Who’s Cletus? Why are you talking about mental illness? Who cares if there are multiple IPs responding to you? I’m not the original guy you started calling Cletus, but it sounds like you have a mental illness yourself. Russian equipment fucking sucks, it’s dogshit, they don’t have the money or institutional knowledge to continue competing with the west.
And you’re the one talking about conspiracies?
Impressive. Very nice. Let's see how it compares 33 years later.
Well obviously it's been updated since then... right? And obviously it worked as advertised in the 1990s too... right?
>I haven't seen anything in the Russian arsenal that hasn't been a huge disappointment yet
whats wrong with the mosin nagant??
The idea that one is worth more than about $100.
It's half Belgian
In comparison with all the other bolt-actions its a piece of shit
because russia is russia
Isn't it a copy of the sidewinder? It should be alright then.
Not quite, it's thrust-vectored and has a huge lock FoV for high off-boresight shots.
So far that's exactly what I'm hearing
Surprisingly, this thread was made a few hours before that news broke. I wasn't looking to throw shit on the scenario.
I don’t think anyone on this board has reliable Ukrainian war use data, but the archer has a reputation as being quite easy to decoy
It is very attracted to the sun. Not really reliable, but the aim9 isn't all that great in the grand scheme of things anyway. 6/10.
Compared to the 9X? Yeah it really is.
Yes, it doesn't have a focal plane array seeker like current "western" and Chinese short range AAMs putting it 1-2 generations behind.
Other issues Russian planes have are their lack of AESA radars and until recently lack of ARH medium-long range missiles.
Even with R-77 finally entering service it is hopelessly behind current "western" AAMs and will only fall farther behind in the near future with JNAAM and AIM-260.
>Muttshitter doesn't know about the r-37m
didnt we get confirmation of it being used in combat a few weeks ago?
Yeah there were a few write-ups about it. Not much information to go off though.
>didnt we get confirmation of it being used in combat a few weeks ago?
They already captured an intact one that landed in a muddy field.
I'm not even convinced the R-73 could even compete with the AIM-9M when it entered service.
Some points about the archer:
>First soviet cryogenic SRAAM entered service only two years prior
>low purity and relatively low density nitrogen used for cooling
>dubious quality of domes, limited ability to work with high transmittance/low shock materials
>very limited digital processing abilities
I'm also wary of the TVC system working as advertised.
Warthunder devs are too spooked to put it into the game, so it has to be good
Nah it shot down a f-16 with a mig 21. So no. Might be the most effective missile in russian inventory. R-77 is the actual piece of shit
>Shot down an F-16
That genuinely never happened.
Cope moar amerimutt. You fuckers finna get exposed. Imagine losing an f-16 to a mig 21 and then hiding it. Kek.
You even got your f-15's getting your ass handed by our mig 21's
Are proojets really this upset still about Pakistan shooting down your plane and capturing a pilot?
Come back to reality
Lmao the IAF is really swollen with pride over one unverified shootdown and being test dummies for the USAF
You're damn right we are. Pakistan has lost every war they fought against. Only time they managed to keep some self-esteem is when they went crying to China.
I don't care about either your airforce or theirs, I just want to know about the R-73.
They did see F-15s, the most famous example being Cope India 2004.
Cope India 2004? Ah, then I get to break this analysis out again before the Indian shills get too horny:
> According to the Pentagon, several limitations reduced the chances of victory of the Eagle drivers against the Indian fighters. First of all, the lack of the advanced active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar on their F-15s. Second, the air engagements typically involved six Eagles against up to eighteen IAF aircraft with no chance to simulate any beyond visual range (BVR) missile shot (due to the Indian request of not using the AMRAAM). Furthermore, the Indians had sent their most experienced airmen to fight against the Americans whereas the latter belonged to a standard squadron (hence there was a mix of experienced and less experienced pilots).
>war gaming exercise
>us at a disadvantage as usual
>loses as expected
>other side parades it as an epic win
>journalists write about it
>word gets to the pentagon
>funnel more money to MIC
>MiG-21 shot down F-16
No, it didn't. I am a pajeet as well so you cannot refute me. We could have dismantled the entire squadron of F-16s, but some sergeant thought sending literal Vietnam War planes after them was a better idea than our Su-30MKIs. They still don't stand a chance if they try anything, because our air force is both bigger and technologically further along. (For anyone saying Russian tech is shit, yes it is, which is why India gutted every Russian plane and replaced the insides with Israeli tech.)
>F-15s ass handed by MiG-21
What? I don't think a single Indian pilot has even seen an F-15. They didn't use them even during NATO exercises with us.
the red star usually is a gurantee for poor quality goods and bad maintenance.
The amount of (control) surfaces it got makes me think it probably was very maneuverable
Or it originally flew like a brick and they were all required to get any modicum of performance out of it.

>So... Is this thing a gigantic piece of shit too?
I analysed the picture and the answer is almost certainly yes OP
archers seeker is sorta shit but its range isn't all that bad, in fact it's scary.
gonna take a wild guess and assume that the iris-t, aim-9x and aam-5 are most likely better.
nearly everything about it is still classified
Probably wasn't allowed to fire it by the ground controllers and instead had to resort to the methods that were used, before just one guy accidentally or intentionally smacking his fighter into the drone.
