So I bought a 20" mag-fed .308, I was wondering, will the ammo prices go down once the soon to start hunting season is over in a couple of months? Was buying 20rd boxes here and there but would like a 600 or 1000 rd case.

No. hunting season has frick-all to do with M80 ball. Sell the gun if you don't wanna feed it.
Don't be insane. I have over 200RDs of this: https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/rifle/308-win-168-gr-a-max-black#!/ so feeding it isn't the problem, obviously I want the best deal but I've just been grabbing these on my weekly trip to the gunshop, most recently to pick up my PPQ M2 .45 to go with my M2 9mm.
I don't understand though, if more people use the ammo, prices will go up, less people using it, prices will go down. How does that not apply during the main time of year people will be hunting? My buddy owns an FFL and says he doesn't hear a word from people for 10months out of the year and they show up, want their gun cleaned and oiled up, and want about 200-600rds. The 600rd pack of the above is sold out but the 20rd box is still available. Not sure you're right on this but I'll be reloading them anyways so I guess in the long run its irrelevant when it comes to 10c a round, altho on 1000 rds that's $100. At least it's not 5.7 I guess, Keltech dropped the price on the P50 so I was about go grab one of those as well.
ok buddy moron let's talk about how fricking stupid you are
>I have over 200 rounds of some basic b***h shit
wow barely one whole fricking range trip
>why doesn't supply and demand work the way I think it does
because hunters buy one fricking box per year. ONE BOX. And that's IF they're not busy buying some other shit tier boomer obscure caliber instead of 308
>reloading 308
enough people have guns in 308 that fricking mangle the brass so nobody cares enough to reload 308 en mass to keep prices down
sell your guns and get the frick out of here
I got the gun 6 days ago dumbass, I've shot 5 different 308s in my life back before all this shit went down and after I zero in the scope I'm good. So maybe one box to zero in.
308
enough people have guns in 308 that fricking mangle the brass so nobody cares enough to reload 308 en mass to keep prices down
It's mangled because they are trying reload 7.62 which has thicker walls than a regular .30 round and can't take enough powder. I haven't had a single issue with any bullet I've reloaded, ever. I'm not selling shit, shithead. I'll reload and it'll be fine.
didn't fricking say you were selling your reloads
but cleetus with his poorgay atlantic PTR sure as frick isn't reloading so when he destroys his brass magdumping he just buys another box, keeping demand really fricking high
I didn't say ARs in 308 are mangling the brass
it's everyone with their broke ass century 308s
Mangle the brass? Never seen that with 1000rds through my DD5 V4 .308 and have reloaded every single round. Are you just making shit up?
Anyways OP, go to a specialty forum like someone else suggested, you aren't getting any pertinent info from these idiots.
If you're still here OP, literally nobody has given you a simple basic answer. The price of ammo right now is purely down to components and overall demand, the big one being smokeless powder. You probably see all the various ammo manufacturers and you think there is robust competition and tons of sources and so on. But every single last one of them is using smokeless powder and there are like 3 factories for it in the entirety of America, and a 4th that is purely military. And that's it. For a while there was cheap surplus soviet foreign ammo coming in that helped but that was mostly used up and war and sanctions have choked the remainder. Smokeless powder plants are hugely expensive and had to build. Without that choke gone ammo prices aren't going back down, ever. Buy what you can when you can when you see decent deals.
>The 600rd pack of the above is sold out but the 20rd box is still available
Also if you care about savings why the frick aren't you using ammoseek? There is almost always a significant premium for buying retail.
>will ammo prices go down right before the midterms
hahahahahahahahaha
No, not before the midterms, I said AFTER hunting season is over, which is after the midterms.
Answer's still no—people are gonna be panic buying right up to election day and it'll take moths afterward for supplies (and, therefore, prices) to return to normal.
Well I guess I'll just keep buying piecemeal or order the 600rd case I found, comes out to like 59 cents a round or so, not too bad. I also have a Keltech P50 on the way so I know that's gonna be ridiculously overpriced ammo as well. Good thing I got a reloading setup otw.
waaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
This board has gone to shit, it's literally easier to get solid advice on a gun-specific speciality forum than listening to the FUDD's here who probably don't even own 1/10th of the guns I do.
So you've made a new gun owner mistake in buying a gun without doing any research or learning the basics first. Watch more Paul Harrell and study up, you'll get there.
What's the mistake? I can afford the rounds at whatever price, I want a better deal, I've gotten 1000rd cases of 5.56 that have gone down $50-$70 bucks in the last month, how is that an issue?
Struck a nerve to get a sequential reply I see
>it's everyone with their broke ass century 308s
You don't have to parrot hate for guns you read online to justify wrong assumptions, you can simply admit you don't know things.
Struck a nerve that alerted me to you being a FUDD that probably doesn't even own A gun, much less multiple guns. Like a child wondering into a rated R movie. You have no frame of reference (and ignored the one I gave you for "muh mangled brass" that doesn't exist)
It's okay, you'll make it out the other side of this. You need to stop expecting ammo prices to go down, look for deals sure but there's a lot of shit going on that's going to manipulate prices negatively. Midterms or any voting period often sparks panic buying, prices go up. Keep in mind .308 is not only a common hunting round but all the young trust fund guys who see AR10s and see them as a big dick version of the AR15 will be scooping it up too. Then the hobbyists and least of all concerns the boomer hunting crew. Still, the round is ubiquitous so you shouldn't ever worry too much about supply. Prices may spike to the extreme once the russian ammo deals finally end now that no new imports can be arranged but I don't know the economics behind it enough to say for sure. Right now you're in a lull before midterms probably cause a panic spike, a good time to pick some up I'd say. If you have a good stock, however much that is depends on your wallet, you can easily continue shooting without buying new stock during high price periods. Consider it an investment and if prices keep going down once you buy a good supply well then just make each round count as far as practice goes. A .22lr plinker to practice the basics runs way cheaper than .308. For instance I keep at least 5k 5.56, 3k 9mm and enough 22lr that I couldn't count it if I wanted to, then work through the oldest and make sure I top it up now and then. These are very low numbers I am slowly raising, you are building up a supply to weather shortages but also a supply to prevent becoming rusty and allow some use. Don't eat your seedcorn.
Thank you for taking the time to type an honest, helpful reply. I think I may go ahead and grab the 600rd case, the steels are cheaper but not reloadable, so I'm taking a temporary hit but I'm sure reloading will cancel that out. And yes, I look at every purchase I make as an investment, either in future protection or from sales. Just like how I got a PPQ 45 for $541 with a promo code and the same model is going for 799-899 on Gunbroker (admitedelly Walther pulled a fast one, confirmed they were discontinued in 2021 and just dropped a new batch about a week and a half ago) I have been checking gun.deals since the PDP came out and they were available for like two days at 599 when the PDP came out before they were gone and that was it until about 14 days ago. I'm also going to Boomer-style and order the last eleven 12rd mags available on a website (was 14 available) I've been following that are already $14 cheaper than from Walther official or other sellers. I could easily see them hitting $80 by Christmas unless they decide to keep pumping them out, I just don't know if they changed their mind, since they said they would never make a .45 PDP and everyone and their mom started buying the PPQ .45s.
Only thing I have to worry about now is getting optic milling done, but my buddy contacted C&H directly and instead of $350+ for the milling it's only $150 if you just get the cut and the standard filler mount for the optic. I can just buy the mount I need at a later date, they're all individually sold. He said they had to make a special invoice for him but he showed it to me and he was telling the truth. Gonna grab threaded barrels for the PPQ .45, 9mm, and the Taurus G3C and hope they get some TORO conversion kits back in stock. Should have ordered one when they first came out. So I'll have three pistols, threaded, all with optic-mounts, my SIG M400 Tread Pistol, my Stribog, and my 20" DD .308.
Also probably going to grab a Keltec P50 since they just dropped the price on them and gift it to my dad. He has hand and shoulder issues and should be able to handle it easily, and he has 51 rds to do whatever he needs to do to protect himself, well worth it.
If you are crying about $50 then maybe guns aren't the hobby for you.
You also have zero clue what I own, what I've shot, etc. I do admit I have a 7.62 but this is my first .308. Yall are acting like paying 7 cents more a round is somehow going to make the ammo unobtainable.
you sure have zero fricking understanding for pretending to know a simple fricking concept regarding ammo prices
So explain it to me. Ammo has been getting cheaper by the day, 9mm, 5.56, 7.62 why would .308 be different?
