can you show the screws you're actually trying to remove? bolt extractor or hammering in a oversized bit is always an option. cutting a slit and using a flathead is one too.

  2. 1 year ago

Get an extraction tool at Home Depot they're not expensive.

Just drill into the screw with a fine drill head

  5. 1 year ago

Good oil that penetrates like kroil let sit 24 hours heat till oil smokes then let cool. Reapply again 24 hours then shock it by using oversize bit hammer on a solid surface till bit is in then try gently if it does not go heat till oil smokes more oil 24 hours then shock again with hammer try again. If does not work heat till oil smokes take a can of PC cleaner "air" turn can upside down so it sprays the liquid nitrogen out and spray it on the hot screw for maximum thermal shock. If all that fails it is going to be a drill out.

So, how do I get the stripped hex screws out of my gun?

tap a flat bit driver of the appropriate size into the stripped bit hole so its cutting into the sides a skootch.
      remove screw.

Jesus fricking Christ, who would go through all this bullshit instead of going for the drill from the outset? Is this a shitpost?

That webm actually illustrates my point perfectly. What kind of shitty parent doesnt show their kid how to use a can opener? What kind of shitty parent doesnt know that kids need to be shown how to do things as they're being raised. Boomers are the weak men who created weak times. Now the hard times are rapidly arriving.
I hope you get eaten by a cannibal biker gang and your gut pile left on the road for the rats.

Children in times past could witness their parents doing something once and then do it themselves. Today, kids are so brain damaged by social media and access to tablets from the age of 2 that unless they're taught in a digital way or through a tiktok dance they're mentally incapable of watching someone and replicating it. The thought of reading and replicating is even more impossible for them.

This pretty much the same thing I've been told by mechanics and machinists before. They also recommended soaking it in a mix of acetone and transmission fluid if Kroil didn't work. It's worked well for me getting stuck mixture screws and jets out of old carbs.

Use a thin drill bit to cut notches into the head a flat head screwdriver can grab, then you're done. Works 99% of the time, and won't hurt the gun if you're careful.
Everyone else in this thread is just so extra. Never make an easy job harder with unnecessary steps.

If screw isn't corroded and you just stripped the head because you're an idiot, #20 drill bit then force fit a T25 torx bit.

If corroded, either use an extractor or put some lapping compound on it.

One time I stripped the screws on my handguard. (The hexagonal ones, not the David star) Anyway I took a dremel and cut a straight line across it and removed it with a flat head. This only works if the screw protrudes off the surface of whatever it’s fastened into. And if you frick up the cutting then it’s in there forever.
