Russia hasn't yet reached where America was in the 1980s AND they are the second most advanced army on the planet. BOTH things are true, which just tells you how pathetic and backwards everyone else is.

    >mainland china
Worst case scenario Three Gorges gets blown up/sabotaged and you just instantly killed millions at once and utterly fricked Chinese domestic life for decades from the structural damage and food issues that’ll arise. Either way in a war with China IMO a direct invasion outside of the immediate coasts to capture important ports is unnecessary, most of the Chinese interior is either empty wasteland, empty cities crumbling away once the Chinese real estate bubble imploded, or just coal mines and factories polluting locals to an early grave. Add to cyberwarfare almost certainly being launched with STUXNET level worms at targeted Chinese facilities and more of the world giving it the cold shoulder when even the most brain damaged third worlders realized the belt and road initiative was just blatant extortion, and there’s not much China could do if the US decided to launch a full attack. There’s a reason why they’ve only been a bunch of b***hes for decades when it came to Taiwan, which is only 100 miles away from the Chinese coast.

Actually they wouldn't, with Chinas nuclear deterrent expended, Americas conventional forces will be free to invade the mainland without fear of nuclear attack and thus the Americans would have no real need to use their weapons to defeat China beyond leverage in the subsequent peace negotiations

if china spends all its nukes hitting ports, the Americans will have enough hardware and manpower left to build new ones - temporary at first, then permanent
if china doesn't spend all its nukes on ports then they will operate from whichever ports china didn't hit

            >Americas conventional forces will be free to invade the mainland
We were free to invade Japan, too, but we nuked 'em instead, just because invading sounded too much like work.
How much more so, if even one chinese nuke gets through and detonates over American soil?

Not "every city" like the other anon said, but I fully expect at least 1-for-1 revenge. We're talking about Pearl Harbor squared, and if the President at the time chooses not to respond with nuclear hellfire, he will be seen as a pussy and a traitor by an enormous swath of Americans.

And that's before you get to the long-term concerns, where someday another upstart nuclear power deludes themselves into believing that the threat of invasion that forced China's capitulation wasn't real, or if it was real then, it couldn't be now, and that they'll be able to refuse us. Convinced that America has neither the balls to respond with nukes, nor the guts to invade, why shouldn't they nuke us?

Every consideration counsels a nuclear response.

      >The Battle of the Ch'ongch'on River (Chinese: 清川江战役; pinyin: Qīngchuānjiāng Zhànyì), also known as the Battle of the Ch'ongch'on, was a decisive battle in the Korean War that took place from November 25 to December 2, 1950, along the Ch'ongch'on River Valley in the northwestern part of North Korea. In response to the successful Chinese First Phase Campaign against the United Nations (UN) forces, General Douglas MacArthur launched the Home-by-Christmas Offensive to expel the Chinese forces from Korea and to end the war. Anticipating this reaction, the Chinese People's Volunteer Army (PVA) Commander Peng Dehuai planned a counteroffensive, dubbed the "Second Phase Campaign", against the advancing UN forces.
      >Hoping to repeat the success of the earlier First Phase Campaign, the PVA 13th Army[nb 2] first launched a series of surprise attacks along the Ch'ongch'on River Valley on the night of November 25, 1950, at the western half of the Second Phase Campaign[nb 3] (Chinese: 第二次战役西线; pinyin: Dì'èrcì Zhànyì Xīxiàn), effectively destroying the Eighth United States Army's right flank, while allowing PVA forces to move rapidly into UN rear areas. In the subsequent battles and withdrawals from November 26 to December 2, 1950, although the Eighth Army managed to avoid being surrounded by PVA forces, the PVA 13th Army were still able to inflict heavy losses onto the retreating UN forces, which had lost all cohesion. In the aftermath of the battle, the Eighth Army's heavy losses forced all UN forces to retreat from North Korea to the 38th Parallel.

Nah technology horse is out of the barn door. Civilian mass market absolutely crashed boomer MIC.
Today you can buy DJI 3 for $1500 with pan tilt and x28 optical zoom camera. It has no problem seeing moving tank 15 km and standing 5 km away. And DJI 3 has follow mode why you cna lock it to follow object in view. All needed hardware is already inside for just $1500.
As you can understand it would be easy to change software from "follow" to "ram highlighted object". So all close range EW becomes hopeless against such guidance because it is locking on you tanks from 5-15 km away.
Yes DJI 3 for $1500 is more expensive than simplest FPV for $500-800 but with factor of x2, not factor of x100 like with outdated boomer MIC Javeln that cant even lock after launch from the good observation position in the air.
