They also only rose to number 2 in military spending since then. They also have literally unlimited numbers of manpower, more than all of Europe and North America combined.
They’ve basically just started, and the US knows that they’re only going to become a bigger threat as time goes on. Sure, the navy itself is never going to challenge the US navy, but they don’t need to if their missile systems are sophisticated enough.
China definitely would be a major enemy to the US, far more dangerous than Russia
