So are Spetsnaz units actually worth anything? I remember when everyone thought they were the equivalent to our SF but with slightly worse equipment and more grit.

I’d peg them similar to rangers rather than SF
>rangers rather than SF
I thought Rangers were special forces?
they are. army rangers are just one facet that comprises the "US special forces". that poster is an idiot
If Rangers are special forces then so is the Marine Core because their boot camp is on the same level as ranger special forces school.
>Marine Core
ask me how I know you're talking out of your ass
>If Rangers are special forces then so is the Marine Core because their boot camp is on the same level as ranger special forces school.
Dude, you have no clue.
I was what could be the equivalent of Rangers being with the 11th MEU/SOC (this was in 1992; not sure of their mission today). The units have different missions with different elements at their disposal (and being at others' disposal!).
Good larp on the boot camp and sit.. well done.
You're both wrong.
Rangers are SOF, not SF. Special Operations Forces and Special Forces are two different things. SF specifically refers to Green Berets in the US Army. SOF are the special mission units who fall under SOCOM. Rangers are the latter.
wrong
>SMU
I think I know what you are refering to
Germans used einsatzgruppen
I think it is just dogs being dogs
then what are soldiers of fortune
Well cute for starters
green berets still fall under SOCOM
I think what he is trying to say is that all Special Forces fall under SOCOM but not all of SOCOM is Special Forces.
Hell yeah, I'd peg them too bro
There’s plenty of pegging/forced sodomy in the Russian military so I’m sure you would be satisfied
They're basically just SWAT but with less regard for human life
They are worth pleasing my wiener
remember that spetsnaz is just a general word for special forces or special troops. There are dozens of different spetsnaz units, even the Railway Troops have their own spetsnaz.
Depends which unit of spetznaz u actually mean. Some of them got smoked but because their are not SF, like some of them are swat type units, recon etc. it is a broad terminology.
I know that in Mariupol some kind of Russian sf took out Ukranian marines rather quickly at the opening stages of the conflict
Picture after Ukranian marines surrendered with their banner
>Some of them got smoked but because their are not SF
And some of them got smoked because they got ambushed.
Paras were and still are suicide pact.
Maybe I have wrong understanding on what SF is. Like, I never saw paras as SF, just specialised infantry. SF in my prob wrong understanding is the ability to do everything not just one specific thing u were trained in like jumping behind enemy lines.
Special forces is literally just specialized infantry. Green Berets are SF and they are mostly used to train insurgents and geurilla fighters. USMC recon is used to get intel deep behind enemy lines. Both are just dudes with guns, but they also have a specific job that makes them special, hence special forces.
Oke, then yea, Russian SF gets lit up in Ukraine
To my understanding paras are what could be described as mass special forces.
Mix of long range recon and grunt.
I don't know what I'm talking about, but I'm somewhat confident there's a difference between special forces (seals and green berets) and specialized divisions like the 101st and 10th Mountain (maybe Marine recon too?). Specifically, rangers are tasked with seizing airfields and one other thing - might be protecting embassies, can't remember. Of course, they get used for much more - my ranger friend was mostly a door kicker in GWOT.
Right. Russian, and Eastern European in general, militaries and police work a little different than they do in the west. Spetsnaz is just a general term. Some are comparable to something like Rangers, others are pretty much like US State Police SWAT teams or federal tac teams. The kitted out Chechens you see doing absolutely nothing in videos are I believe part of SOBR “Terek”, a special police Spetsnaz unit from Chechnya.
They got some medals tho for doing nothing
In their videos they don’t do shit, they just goof off in classic Chechen style, I’ve only seen a few in which they receive incoming. But obviously they are fighting, anybody that claims they aren’t are moron drinking too much Ukrainian kool-aid.
didn't a missile take out the marines?
Rumors tell that FDF teaches some MPs to run when certain spetsnaz appear.
No idea which ones but that is the rumor.
Some ukrainian accounts make encounters with russian special forces seem the kind of shit I wouldn't want to be part of.
They seem way too calm.
Like autists focusing on thing they love.
>Rumors tell that FDF teaches some MPs to run when certain spetsnaz appear.
How would they know? Will the spetsnaz wave around a large and unit-specific battle flag before engaging, do the MP's check ID, does everyone exchange business cards before they start shooting, or...?
I’m guessing that if they are getting their asses handed to them more than usual it’s a pretty good indication that they are fighting some mean dudes and not the usually ruski conscripts or donbabweans. Maybe drone recon could confirm as well, if they can see any of the enemy and notice better gear but this is maybe a stretch.
Name a war with better aesthetics than this
Not possible
Does Operation Gothic Serpent count?
Remember when the Spetsnaz were caught shoplifting on CCTV and then a week or two later Putin gave them medals for being heroes or something? Literally did nothing afaik.
they do back flip axe throwing ?
If you need someone to do a backwards flip and throw a hatchet, they're the best.
