Many parts for their planes are essentially irreplaceable right now. Anything lost to shootdowns or parts wear is going to be written off for the foreseeable future. They simply cannot risk compromising their airforce in a situation that is not threatening to spill over into Russia itself

Honestly Ukrainians should start bribing Russian aircraft pilots to defect already. Get the planes before they all crash.

sure it happens, I had a USAF crash near my house not too long ago. Any time you live near an air force base you accept something might go wrong and you'll find an F-22 in your living room one day quite unexpectedly

Russia is really shitting the bed harder than most though. A few crashes spread over over years is not concerning (mechanical failures happen, I get it) but when you get into a dozen crashes within a year, 2 within a week, that shows a more fundamental engineering problem

of course, when you're building your planes out of stolen washing machine and traffic camera parts, they may work less well than if made with military grade hardware

Everytime an F-35 crashes during training or testing of the new engine, vatniks and wumaos crawl out of the woodwork to gloat and Americans respon with "yeah, if you fly hundreds of thousands of hours between dozens of countries, crashes will happen - let's hope the blackbox teaches us something useful and another fault is fixed".

The sanctions are beginning to cripple the Russian aircraft fleet, depriving them of useful spare parts. That, combined with a shortage of experienced pilots, is resulting in accidents.
