What is wrong with the French? Why not have STANAG mags like everybody else? Guess you can just do whatever the frick you want in NATO

The mag catch design on STANAG is moronic
      Rock in is superior always

            Genuine question:
Why is rock + lock better?

              Anonymous

French have issues articulating their thumbs far from their other fingers(webbed hands and all) so rock and lock helps them out a bit where humans don't have such an issue

Rocking in is more "secure" because it has a more positive indication that the mag is in.
It also has many, MANY more ways you can frick it up, so the manual of arms for reloading is much more complicated and precise.
But your mag won't fall out of your gun when you use your rifle like a pry-bar, so that's something I guess.

Pivoting movement is always better than sliding movement is the simplest way to put it.

That doesn't make sense to me. Put it in a more complicated way. Sliding seems easier than pivoting

Better way to put it is that subhumans with brown skin or freaks of whatever kind counter signal objectively good things like the ar 15. Not that deep.

There is no such thing as a STANAG mag.
The Sig 540 and 550 series did not use an AR15 style mag either. Just like the Steyr Aug, the HK33 or the G36.
So ask what is wrong with the Swiss, the Austrians, the Germans.
Then, once you are done, contemplate the fact the French started working on the Famas F1 at a time when the AR15 was supposed to use a 25 rounds straight magazine, and then the fact the Famas G2 exists.

So no NATO country uses the Steyr Aug or the Sig550?
          >The Germans
          >Did not adopt the HK33 as their standard issue rifle
And they did not adopt the G36 either?
          Just stop.
There is no such thing as a STANAG mag.
For instance, tell me which STANAG number is associated to these famous "STANAG magazines"? Which by the way are simply M16 magazines, M16s which for their parts do not even have the same magwell dimensions as every weapon capable of being fed from that particular magazine. Hence why some aftermarket magazines like Magpul, cannot be inserted into the magwells of certain weapons although these can perfectly accept an M16 magazine.
So, can you give that number?
Of course you can, it's STANAG 4179. Everybody knows that, right?
Except, except, except, the current STANAG 4179 is not a single bit about small arms magazines.
Yes that's because STANAG 4179 was a draft STANAG, a proposal, not a ratified one.
For instance, when you look at the NATO e-library:
You can find the STANAG 4694, which is the NATO variant of the Mil.std 1913 Picatiny rail.
Or STANAG 5066 which is about radio comms.
But type 4179, and what do you find?
          Nothing.
          Oh noes.
Does NATO not know about its own standards?
Are you, anon, better knowledgeable about fricking NATO standards than motherfricking NATO in the first place?

          There
          Is
          No
          STANAG

      Stanag mags was never applied.

Also, the FA-MAS didn't use SS109, and was commanded in 1978, but the STANAG 4172 only made in 1980.

They got a taste of being a regional power(Napoleon era) and gaslit themselves into thinking they've always been a major power and always will. They prioritize being unique rather than good/competent, so to try and stand out

The French strategy, from the Gauls to 18th century colonialism, has always been "throw enough men at the problem until it goes away". This is why they relate so much more to their Chinese and Russian brothers than their actual Euro neighbors.
Anytime they didn't have an 8:1 advantage they got dogwalked, then Napoleon came around and changed things to where they only needed a 5:1 advantage to win. After Bonaparte, they returned to their age old tradition of getting dogwalked.

What company? MAS? They aren't a "company", they're a part of the French government.

GIAT sells stuff to people that want to buy it but the FAMAS would not be importable into the US with the current import restrictions. "We don't want to build a US factory to produce an obsolete military rifle that only a handful of enthusiasts would want" is hardly "We hate Americans and their money"

FAMAS is one of the most well know guns out there we imported VZ 58s and SKS im sure you could sell FAMAS for 1.5k and they still sell well

Idk about VZs, but imported SKSs are old stock; nobody has made more of them in decades. Thats not the same as tooling up to make a gun.

    >While the issue of the rifle only being able to use steel cased ammunition is largely a myth, the original F1 does have a 1 in 12 twist rate barrel meaning that it is optimised for 55gr M193-type 5.56x45mm ammunition rather than 62gr SS109 or M855. Sources suggest the F1 Valorisé has a new 1 in 9 barrel which if true would enable it to use ammunition with heavier projectiles with no issues. It seems the only limiting factor on the F1’s in Ukraine is the weapon’s use of a proprietary 25-round magazine rather from a NATO standard 30-round magazine. As such combatants in Ukraine who find themselves with a F1 Valorisé will be confined to using magazines issued with the weapon. In a hostile environment where STANAG pattern magazines are most prevalent 5.56x45mm magazines this is a significant logistical drawback.

    >As the number of FAMAS provided is relatively small sightings of the French rifles in theatre are relatively rare. Despite this from the limited sample we have available the rifle appears to be in the inventory of at least two or three brigades. It appears likely that they aren’t being issued to entire units and instead they are currently held by unit armouries where individuals can select them.
