Operators live in the gym, look at any pipeline, or post pipeline training complex

I mean it kinda does fatso

He does have a point, the modern swole operator is somewhat of an anomaly resultant from Iraq/Afghan where they would always have transport and thus would rarely cover huge distances by foot. Previously they looked more like triathletes or endurance runners because their job entailed covering huge distances on foot. Consequently they couldn't maintain much mass.

Yeah this is really it, I’m an avid backpacker and try to do weeklong rucks covering 100 miles or more at least once a year.
I lose a pound a day on those trips, all the distance backpackers I know are skinny because it’s really hard to maintain mass walking for 8 hours a day while eating trail food. I’d imagine inserting behind enemy lines would be a similar situation (obviously much more difficult than just trail hiking) and lifting weights would have no benefit for the skills you’d need.

Most “elite” military guys I knew did cardio and body weight almost exclusively. Stuff that would make the average person puke and pass out though. I only knew rangers so not sure what other branches do.
When I was young and dumb I tried getting into boxing (got my ass kicked bad a few too many times and gave up trying to compete pretty early) our training had no weights because staying light was important for competitiveness. We’d run a lot, hold planks while someone punched our sides, so sit-ups with someone standing on our abs or slamming a hard medicine ball into our stomach between sitting up…now that I think of it, it was mostly abs and obliques. I’m just rambling now but I had a friend join the marines at that time and the workouts he described were pussy shit compared to what I did everyday to train, I think my coach was genuinely psychotic though.
Marines do lift weights though, have yet to meet a dyel marine.

well its the difference between aesthetic lifting and functional training.

Power lifting may make you a big boy, but if you cant run 10 miles and your job relies on you being able to do so, youre going to be a powerful dead guy.

Cardio and calisthenics is literally all anyone needs. A simple 4 exercise calisthenics circuit maybe 20ish minutes 3 times a week would unfrick 80% of people with issues due to a sedentary lifestyle.

most military guys are out of shape and suck at hand to hand combat
stop using them as an example of fitness when their fitness tests revolved around carrying 100lbs for 14 hours and jogging for 20.

I wasn’t talking about POGs, actual combat units have very high standards of fitness generally.
Basic training is the bare minimum and is not very strenuous.

Avionics pogue here. We had this one Gunny who was like 5'2" and super moto. One day he said we were doing jazzercise for PT. We were like lol, ok. It kicked our asses. I was like 22 and regularly running 5Ks and 10Ks on weekends.

Those full body cardio classes can be insane. My gym had a kickboxing fitness class which was full of women that would leave me panting and sweating every time.

I've been playing the Resident Evil 4 VR remake recently and the game has the health and ammo counter as a reversed wrist watch, it's very convenient and has let me check my status in split seconds while capping zombies in the knees as they literally surround me.

However, in real life i dont think there's a watch that has bright red letters that say "RELOAD" when my shotgun is empty so i dont see how that would work.

not if they were trying to blend in. last thing you want is going to a bbq with your wife's friends and little timmy calls you out while you're holding a mango whiteclaw.

when will the "blending in" meme die? SOF doesn't even try to blend in anymore, even when they looked like homeless dudes they openly carried weapons and wore camo.

It's true. I wear a g-shock and people constantly ask me which special forces unit I'm with. It gets really annoying when I'm just trying to pay for my groceries but the cashier keeps asking me about the raid on Bin Laden.

Are G-shocks seriously seen a sign of being an operator over there?
They are just good watches to wear anywhere and never have to worry about. Everyone should have a G-Shock.

no, every soldier i know wears a gshock including 'operators'.
occationally ill see a guy with a fancy gps garmin or gshock but its mostly people with simple gshocks

gshocks were the go-to and still are if you just want the time and a timer
              it's mostly apple watches now

gshocks are the go-to now, mostly the same ones that were used 20 years ago but some nowdays buy ones with gps and solar batteries so you dont have to worry about switching batteries after 2 decades and dont have to worry about setting the time because it drifts a second or two after a few months.

Toss in a suunto occasionally for euro operators, but Gshocks are the most popular without doubt
It's basically the go to rugged watch for everyone

my grandfather used to wear his diver's watch like that. he was not an operator, although he was involved in the nuke bomb projects at one point. i think he wore his watch like that so he did not scratch the face while working on his boat.

Ideally you want to blend in so if there is a threat they aren't aware of your status as a shooter.

my operator watch was the biggest thing I could get from west marine, some clowish 2" watch that is normally set up on a mast or something for multiple people to look at when manning a sailboat. I used it because driving trucks for 14 hours sucks and I didn't want to squint just to check the time. Eventually I got one of those holographic car displays from autozone which eliminated the problem, but holy frick it was a chore to find the necessary converter from OBD2 to diesel. If the army wants to make maintence easy why the frick don't they just use OBD2 like gas cars do?

I can't sit in restaurants since I cannot watch the backdoor and the front door at the same time. I carry two guns Incase the threat gets my first. Only knife worth carrying? A karambit. I have the dope chart for my rifle tattoo'd on my forearm. All my pistols have their own X300U lights. My wife has a secret knock that she does before she comes into the house. I don't eat onions.

I'm sure wearing your watch backwards so everyone can see your plushy soft fingers every time you look at it in the most conspicuous way possible will let everyone know how many tours of duty you did.

I did this instinctively when working at a warehouse. I’m not in the military and never was, it just makes it easier to glance at the time when you’re in the back of the trailer and you’re constantly moving stuff with your hands.
