Sig Spear 7.62 for $2.6k. Sig folding stock for $200

Sig Spear 7.62 for $2.6k

Sig folding stock for $200

Not crazy expensive before optics and suppressor, but certainly a lot more than an AR 7.62 build. Probably much cheaper to build it yourself from German parts and will get cheaper over time, but it is definitely a lot cheaper now.

Having this AK/AR pistol base with the folding stock makes it as compact as a bullpup but can still be extended out to normal AR rifle size and feeling.

ok so explain to me how a 7.62 SBR at 2.6k a pop is going to help in that minecraft fight? You're better off buying half a dozen uppers with that and equipping a small unit with less expensive gear.

Sig is just finally delivering the 7.62x39 MCX option they've been promising for almost a decade. The original MCX was advertised as being capable of converting to 7.62x39, but the conversion kits never showed up. Nobody wants CMMG or Palmetto abominations. tbh I'd rather have a 300blk Spear LT.

7.62 is perfect, 6.8 was chosen for its similarity to 7.62

Ammo is cheap, interchangeable with AKs, and you can get cheap AP rounds that actually destroy level 4 plates, not to mention the computerized autofiring system that isn't even out yet

It's better than an AK and an AR honestly, but it's significantly more expensive than both. The Pentagon won't have trouble affording it, and once it swings into large production, the price will go down

It will just be the newest standard issue Army rifle which is what made AR rifles so popular in the first place

The army is not using 6.8 SPC (6.8x43), the army rifle is 6.8x51 (.277 fury)

Army should do 6.8 SPC ARs for the squad, 6.8x51 for DMR and LMGs for the rest of the squad.

                Anonymous

What would be the point? With a 6.8 LMG you already have overmatch so no point in burdening the individual rifleman with 6.8 SPC when 5.56 does the job and is much lighter.

                Anonymous

6.8SPC was designed to replace 5.56, and it isn't "much lighter" it's a bit lighter, but you can still do 25/rd mags easily enough and your total round loadout is much closer to current 5.56 than it will be with 6.8x51.

6.8SPC splits the difference between 5.56 and 6.8x51 nicely.

                Anonymous

What do you gain by splitting that difference, though? It's a stupid, fundamentally backwards concept, and the LSAT program should never have been corrupted by caliber homosexualry. Take the new ammunition tech, use it to make a lighter 5.56 analog, and double down on what makes modern fighting rifles good- cheap, light, mobile, suppressive fire for the individual infantryman.

                Anonymous

                >6.8SPC was designed to replace 5.56
Yeah, when M855 was considered suboptimal against skinnies in Somalia.
I don't care about the 25 round mags, why change when SOCOM themselves saw no point in ordering more 6.8 SPC for Afghanistan?
The good BC 6.8 SPC pills are in the 110-120gr range which makes them almost twice as heavy as 62gr 5.56 on the bullet alone.
You gain more from min maxing with the lightest possible effective rifle cartridge and a long range crew served weapons cartridge. Alternatively, you could just keep one standard ammo and ask riflemen to take the hit with 6.8x51 for the sake of logistics. With SPC you lose the advantages of 5.56 while also not having a common round between rifleman and LMG.

Shit, there's even companies out there making special bolts for the AR system that would allow you to fold the stock and fire. Like $300-$400 or something. Far cheaper than getting sig shit. Just get that, stick your 7.62x39 bolt head on and shoot your AR/AK. You can even get a sig stock if it makes you feel better and still have $1000 to spare.

To me, it is a meeting of worlds. The 7.62 power of the AK combined with the modern, railed, sleek design of the AR, produced as a result of testing and input from actual combat veterans and German engineers. It is American progress.

i have the original MCX (not the virtus) for about 8 years now and it's a great rifle

ive probably put at least 15k rounds through it and it's only started to lose accuracy just recently

never had a major malfunction. only jams i ever got with it were due to a bad mag.

i replaced the trigger which was the only thing wrong with it.

if the new MCX stuff is anything like what I have then yeah it's worth the price. I'd rather buy a really good rifle for $4k then own a collection of shitty unreliable crap

The rifle is essentially DDM4 V7 with full ambi controls, a folding stock, and a cleaner action for an extra $400. If that's not worth it to you, get a DD. If DD quality isn't worth it to you, get an M&P sport.
