I think maybe some sort of filtration or setup a tarp and collect condensation into buckets. The condensation should be safer to drink than rain water collected.

Whenever you make water filters...or even use store-bought ones (even the ceramic type), you have to pour several gallons of water through and let it naturally "settle" until it runs clear. Then it should be okay to use. What you can also do is if you have access to power and a microwave you can electrify the shit out of whatever is in it using that, plus boil it and it will be fine.
Yes, that's the "Israeli bandage". Also be sure to pack good scissors meant for cutting clothes around a wound and some others for cutting thread, keep them separate. NEVER cut gauze, get several sizes and use those. You can get vacuum packed gauze too to save space, it's actually pretty cheap online. Most important one I can think of that most people don't is the eye wash though. You really want to have eyewash because they're so vulnerable and time is of the absolute importance in washing it out. You need eyewash solution to neutralize whatever, using water may hurt it more if you don't know what's gotten into your eyes.

A means of self defense, I advocate for a 12 gauge pump shot gun as the do all firearm but I have several others, a .22 pistol with a threaded barrel is a good sidearm since it's nice and quiet also shoots extremely common and affordable ammo. Also make sure you have a well stocked and operational medical guide and first aid kit. Lastly having a solar panel and some battery electric power tools is always a good practical investment, you have no idea how much easier it is to cut a tree down with a chainsaw than by axe.

Crossbow or bow and arrow, and a good knife like a KA-BAR. While I'd recommend a felling axe, carrying it is impractical, and I'd recommend a steel hatchet. I use hatchets every day, and wood ones break and chip very easily, but I suppose if you're good with woodwork, it's also much more easy to replace the handle.

Bows are unironically one of the best apocalyptic/survival weapons along with spears, slings and other silent projectile weapons. You will always have ammo and you don't need complicated tools to make ammo. I would recommend getting a crossbow that shoots multiple type of ammo such as metal balls/bolts and arrows so that you can use it for any size game and never have to worry. Just raid a machine shop for bearings and you'll be set for the duration.

MAKE a first aid kit. Do not BUY a "ready made" first aid kit that is full of overpriced bandaids. Lots of Gauze, Tourniquet, "Steri-strips"/butterly bandages, trauma pads, betadine/iodine, distilled water, gauze rolls, israeli bangage, wound flusher bottle, self adhering roll bandages, eyewash, alcohol wipes for hand wiping and gloves. Antibiotics too, you can use Amoxicillin for fish so long as you look up the fish weight and dose properly. I'm also adding ivermectin to mine, just as another "fuck you" to the doctor.
Look up how to perform first aid too. Look up "wound packing' and maybe stitching if you really want to be that independent, will suck a lot though without anesthetic and I would not fuck with needles and drugs in a "first aid" scenario. Make sure you can access it one handed, no footed...roleplay you're injured when making this kit.

My 2c, in (my) rough order of priority
- Plan for the most likely outcomes, and get in the headspace you would need to be in to deal with those situations
- Stockpile enough water to last you a few weeks
- Obtain the means to make more potable water (filter, RO ideally)
- Stack enough food to last you until you can start growing your own, if you don't already
- Make friends with their own plans and supplies, and coordinate.
- Guns / Ammo / Training
- Fuel
- Communications
- CBRN gear
The little shit in-between those major priorities will occur to you as you go make plans, these are just the big things to focus on. Remember that all the material preparation in the world will do you zero good if you aren't prepared to do what you need to do to survive, and plan accordingly.

Why an AR platform? Glad you asked! The biggest thing you need to think of in a SHTF scenario is Reliability, availability of parts and ammo, and accuracy. The AR is the most common rifle in America, so are the parts and ammo and they blow any AK out of the water. Get a 16in, don't get a small one like a 10.5 if you want to shoot past a block with accuracy. Neither a 20in if you wanna clear rooms with a broom. Also get one with an MLOK freefloating barrel for ease of attachment use.

So ask yourself this "Do I need armor?" Well I don't know. Do you live in a rural area where you will probably need to go a long ways for a store? If so go with a chest rig plus they are CHEAP. You get carry capacity at low cost and low price at the cost of having a .22 be like a warm knife through butter. If you are in a more densely populated area, or are thinking you need to "larp" room clearing then get a plate carrier. If you decide to run plates only run Level 4 that stop 5.56 and 7.62 and below. I run plates myself. Heres some good of both.

NVGs are imperative because they allow you to not be useless in the dark which is about 8-12hrs of the day. There are many different types of buzzwordsbut let me quickly break it down:
Bino/Mono - Double/Single tubes
Gen1/2/3 - Generation of tubes, higher the number the better get 3 or higher.
White Phos/Green Phos - Green color or white color. Green is cheaper but worse quality and visa versa.

5) Helmet, there are two primary ones ballistic and bump.

Bump helmets: These are good for one thing and one thing only, Night vision. That's it, they're light and they can mount your nods and ear pro.
