The real danger doesn't come from being alone, it comes from being surrounded. Cities turn into meat grinders when the power goes out.

I am from Bosnia. You know, between 1992 and 1995 it was hell. For one year I lived, and
survived, in a city with 6000 people, without water, electricity, gasoline, medical help, civil
defense, distribution service, any kind of traditional service or centralized rule.
Our city was blockaded by the army and for 1 year life in the city turned into total crap. We
had no army, no police, we only had armed groups – those armed protected their homes and
families.
When it all started some of us were better prepared, but most of the neighbors families had
enough food only for a few days. Some had pistols, a few had AK47s or shotguns.
After a month or two gangs started operating, destroying everything. Hospitals, for example,
turned into slaughterhouses. There was no more police. About 80% of the hospital staff were
gone. I got lucky – my family at the time was fairly large (15 people in a large house, 6 pistols,
3 Aks), and we survived (most of us, at least).
The Americans dropped MREs every 10 days, to help blockaded cities. This was never
enough. Some – very few – had gardens. It took 3 months for the first rumors to spread of men
dying from hunger and cold. We removed all the doors, the window frames from abandoned
houses, ripped up the floors and burned the furniture for heat. Many died from diseases,
especially from the water (two from my own family). We drank mostly rainwater, ate pigeons
and even rats.
Money soon became worthless. For a tin can of tushonka you could have a woman (it is hard to speak of it, but it is true). Most of the women who sold themselves were desperate mothers.
Arms, ammunition, candles, lighters, antibiotics, gasoline, batteries and food. We fought for
these things like animals. In these situations it all changes. Men become monsters. It was
disgusting.
Strength was in numbers. A man living alone getting killed and robbed would be just a matter
of time, even if he was armed.

FYI this is a complete fabrication and a lie. The author in question is a 'refugee' who got asylum in Northern Ireland of all places and tried to make a living selling his fantasy to American preppers. I was in Croatia and Northern Bosnia from 1991 and part of 1992 and had a few acquaintances who were around in Bosnia and OP Storm up to the end of 1995, including Bosnian Muslims and Catholics. This is completely untrue. Poverty does not suddenly make women prostitutes and dollars and European currencies were certainly not worthless, ever.

Shit that did not happen. People were miserable especially civilians but if anything they shared more.

My personal thoughts on that document is that it was written either by a serb or Russian larping as a boniak, possibly with a stolen identity to get refugee status who was never anywhere near the war.

I can't imagine having to deal with this...but I tried an adaptation experiment in my head. Seems like you can still get 99% of your preps squared away in bongland, but no guns is a bummer. I saw a flare gun in walmall today ($67...fuck). Worst case, would any of yall ever use that as a substitute? Whether you're trying to source a .22lr conversion insert or just shooting flares at people? Only other way seems like 3d printing...
