Should I rent or should I roll?

Alrighty. I'm temporarily working in an alright job that's adjacent to my chosen career path for the time being. Just long enough to pay off my tiny debt, help my mother, and then save up some money. Once that is done, I plan to pursue my career. That will most very likely require me to move away.
I'm m not sure if I should post here or ADV, but I'm unsure whether I should just use my saved money to get into all apartment where I'll be working, despite the generally ludicrous state of rentals. Or should I get a motorhome? It doesn't even need to be nice. I could use a project to do outside of work hours aside from multimedia distractions. I'm rather handy, so it wouldn't be insurmountable. But it might be a higher upfront cost for the motorhome and a restoration would keep me here longer. I do have a vague time limit before my certification expires. I have just shy of a year before I have to start using it.
What do?

RV trailer plus truck to haul it wisely separates your drivetrain (which does not benefit from sitting) from your living quarters. You can rent a truck to haul it now and then while owning something economic to save money.

You never own a rental. You can own a trailer.

      >You never own a rental. You can own a trailer.
this is true. rent on a decent pad can be as low as $200/mo, and youre free to move your house wherever you want pretty much whenever you want.
however: you absolutely must fricking maintain that thing impeccably and keep it clean as frick inside. you cannot afford to be a slob in a trailer. its not just that living as a slob is degenerate, it really takes a toll on a trailer. much more than a typical house

I grew up with a gifted mechanic that lived in a trailer on our property. Unfortunately, he suffered from crippling alcoholism. His trailer was absurdly repellent. It made me tend not to be a slob.
But I think I would likely go for a trailer since it'd probably reduce the cost notably.

      this
A luggable loo is way more efficient than a total boomer tier comfort bathroom system.
If you are young and don't mind a little inconvenience you do the following:
1.) put 13 gal trash bag in luggable loo
2.) put some FelinePine pellets in the bottom
3.) shit & piss on them
4.) Cover them with a few more pellets
5.) wash your bunghole off with a squeeze wash bottle with antibacterial soap & water in it
(at this point you are cleaner than the average american)
      6.) wipe clean
7.) tie up the whole thing and throw it in the trash.
      >repeat ad nauseum

Or do what we did on deployments and walk or drive to shit.

Piss jugs work great but were eventually forbidden because the TCNs didn't like moving trash cans full of urine-filled water bottles baking in the Saudi sun.

      What career certification..?

I was stuck renting when I switched cities. Sucks, but had to be done. Coworker in the same situation later happened to have a 5th wheel and was able to save quite a bit just renting a slip at a campground for a while.

Towing is more flexible than a self propelled, less to go wrong. Depends if you have a primary vehicle to tow it with though.

Renting trucks is easy enough and cheaper than owning them (unless you're a mechanic). BTW if you don't want your home stolen cut off the conventional hitch, weld on a Bulldog adjustable hitch mount then unbolt your hitch and hide it inside the trailer. I do that with my equipment trailers.

When down range you typically shit in a porta-potty. It's not like OP has that option.

Or do what my father did in Vietnam. Collect the poo and burn it with diesel. Just stir it as it burns in a barrel.

A&P certificate. I certainly am more interested in the RV trailer route. I only have an old Toyota tacoma atm, but I'll probably upgrade within a few years.

get a cheap truck camper on craigslist. You can reno it and install solar and energy efficient appliances.
Ditch the septic and use a marine toilet with liquid/solid seperator. If you get a smaller/lighter one your Tacoma will work fine.

Reason I asked was how often you might end up moving around or whatever.

A co-worker's husband used to be a bombardier mechanic. Long shifts, some travel, the ability to move house would be a huge qol boost in those situations.
