Idk. I think its utterly cringe and pointless, but if I were so well established that I could throw away 5k on an overweight AR, I might feel differently. But then if I were that well off, why wouldn't I just spend 20k on an actual full auto? Its cool that FN released them to the public, but Id be surprised if they sold very well.

Everywhere I look they’re usually sold out, I think all your richgay influencers, rappers (I.E. Post Malone) peppers and tacticool dudes bought them up like hot cakes.

If you plan to leave it semi-auto it's moronic, if you plan to make it full-auto don't tell the internet.

They specifically make these as hard as possible to convert

The nature of the beast means it's never that hard to convert if you know what you are doing.
They can make it a lot harder than a coat hanger but they can't make it impossible.

It will keep the regular joe from doing it, and i guess that's good enough in the ATF's eyes.

The ATF probably hates semi's being legal because they can be converted but thankfully that isn't a law they can change.

They also told me Dodge made it has hard as possible to delete the DEF system on my 2021 Ram diesel. Suffice to say I found a way and it wasn’t that hard.

dont talk to the airsofters anaon, they don't know shit about how to convert a 249. Most likely they will reply back with something like

Everyone thinks this shit is as easy as twisting up a coat hanger or slicing up the inside of your receiver with a dremel.

                Anonymous

I do know a 249 is possible to convert (obviously), but you're going to need the right tools so you don't turn your 10k gun into a giant paper weight. I know a lot of the SOT's that convert them won't mess with the receiver, but will instead modify a full auto bolt carrier to fit inside the semi auto receiver. Sadly full auto bolts are kinda expensive and not often for sale, but not impossible. Something also has to be done to the trigger group, but i couldn't find much info on that aspect. If some Anon wishes to shed light on this for us, it would be very welcomed.

I remember seeing a 249 with a registered HK trigger pack in a modified lower receiver. I don't know if it was one of the FN made semis or a clone made by some other company specifically set up for the HK parts though. I do remember the trigger pack had to have a custom made taller hammer to make it work.

Pretty shit honestly, like they're cool but aside from the MCR that can accept AR trigger packs their triggers blow more ass than bullpup triggers. Plus they're not accurate and it's not like 5.56 or 7.62x39 are cheap enough anymore to mindlessly blast away. If someone came out with a 9mm or 22 belt fed I might be interested, especially if there was a compatible FRT/binary trigger for it. That or it just has a reciprocating bolt handle for the funny shoelace trick. Of course this all assumes that you stay within the confines of the law and don't try to engineer a pre-existing semiauto belt-fed back to full auto

Semi-auto belt feds are cool toys, but if you've ever shot the full giggle version it'll be very disappointing deep down. The only semi-auto MG I'd buy are the magazine fed ones like an M1918A3 BAR or an RPK.

Word around the camp fire is that semi M-249 can accept many parts from a full auto M-249, including giggle parts.

If in theory the Hughes amendment/all relevant gun laws are stricken then is it a good investment knowing an actual armorer could legally fix them quick?

      Anonymous

If the Hughes amendment gets repealed then transferable factory m249s won't cost half a million dollars anymore.
      >you are now aware that many MG collectors actively lobby against attempts to repeal the Hughes amendment specifically because it ruins their collection's investment value

Yeah but i mean, buying a whole new gun with all the expensive parts like barrel, feed tray, high tolerance receiver, gas and recoil system, etc vs taking it to the shop for a grand tops

Even if it was all legal a machinegun is a very complex and expensive thing

Machineguns are neither complex nor expensive. Especially open bolt MGs

          >a machinegun is a very complex and expensive thing

Machine guns are far easier to design than semi autos, that's why the first machine guns were invented well before semis. In fact pretty much all semi-autos would be full auto, if they weren't specifically designed not to be so.

They'll cost $10-15k which is more than 95% of poorgays crying about MGs can afford anyway.

It's a cool novelty. It becomes very based if you have the ability and know-how to convert it to FA in the very unlikely event of SHTF (or if you have a lot of land and just want to have some naughty fun ;])

It’s cringe and cope. Without full auto, the m249 is a comprehensively worse version of any service rifle made after 1970. And like 10x the price for the privilege of lugging around a 20 pound semi-auto 5.56. I’m convinced the semi auto M249 is a Veblen product. You buy it to show fellow gun enthusiasts that you lit $10k on fire and establish your position as alpha gun-nerd.

It’s in the same category as 16” barreled 9mm semi-auto carbines.. both a result of the gay ass NFA.. My heart bleeds when I see such atrocities.

It's a thing with a lot of these semi auto conversions, notably Gen 1 P90s, PPSH/Sten rebuilds, and so on. Obviously you should obey the law blah blah blah only convert it if you have your SOT etc etc.

I don’t doubt it for legacy platforms, But the newishly released 249 too? I doubt it’s simple to convert from closed to open bolt, and there’s no way FN is selling trigger packs

      >black hands
      >glock fowty

There is a real chance he’s not doing this ironically or as a joke. There’s this video floating around Twitter of a rape of Black folk (proper collective noun as of last week according to a good boy on this board) flexing their Dracoes and full auto Glocks, showing off the switches on the backplate, and some of them are just showing the stock backplate from the factory. Like they don’t know why they do things, they just do them. “Glock switch”, “shiiiiet dat mufugga juh’ like da light switch!”

But anyways your suggestion is a much better solution for ancap-owned belt fed full auto. But what’s the catch? What can a 249 do that an MCR can’t that justifies the doubling of weight and bulk and unfamiliar manual of arms?

In this world of fart triggers it shouldn't be hard to make these far more fun than your casual semi auto
