Seems like drones have become the ultimate weapon on the battlefield.

Seems like drones have become the ultimate weapon on the battlefield. Take for example this recent Russian attack on Ukrainian positions in the Bakhmut area. They had zero element of surprise from the get-go and were basically sitting ducks with their every move watched.

No, they weren't lmao. 10 years ago had ISIS mass utilizing commercial drones.
Again, its not anything new and the U.S. been having mass battlefield surveillance since the 80s.

Yeah, the major difference between plane style drones flown by the air force and small quad copter drones is that the information the soldiers receive is much more immediate and self controlled. They aren't reliant on calling up another branch to provide any support, and they can launch at any time and support their immediate squad.
They both have their own uses (long loiter and long distance for the larger drones, and quick launch and low cost to replace for the small drones, which feeds into things like suicide drones or grenade drops).

I don't get why Ukraine has impunity with regard to drone operation to begin with.
Why aren't the Russians running any ECM or EW to defeat cheap drones? Aren't they at least trying to triangulate drone operator positions?

They absolutely don't. They go through ~10k drones in a month.

also russia has superiority in many areas still, the more expensive, long range surveillance drones like geran are very difficult for ukraine to find and take down and they have only very limited numbers of comparable systems from western countries (mostly because these things are either too new or too powerful)

No. You just get to see the results because drones film it, so you're entirely biased.

well yes, information is absolutely crucial in any war or combat situation
if you can see it, you can usually kill it nowadays
but dont forget that you have confirmation bias here you can see online and documented only those cases were drones were useful
however drones cannot cover every square meter of the front and for each attack that gets discovered and destroyed like this there might be 2 or 3 others that are either not found at all, too late or where drones are taken down in time

Anon, casualties are still casualties. This type of mindset is exactly how you lose a war. And those Bradleys and leopards have been mission killed, but still been brought back and repaired. You're acting as if those vehicles are not doing their job, which is to provide support for the troops and also guarente survival for the crew. Stop treating russia like its the soviet union. Its not the soviet union and they don't exactly have that many manpower to realistically contribute that much.

Only if they start tapping into Moscow and St. Petersburg which they've already shown is very likely to cause a revolt after the last mass exodus. As it is they're already culling the prison population and outlying areas of recruits extensively to avoid touching those people, and not everyone is going to voluntarily go to war. They can only do so much before the actual rich people start revolting.

10 leopards and 29 bradleys are visually confirmed losses. Its nowhere near as bad Russian losses. Of course you knew that when you made your vatnik post.

                IFVs:

                30/190 = 15% of Bradleys
                1024/4080 = 25% of BMPs

                Tanks:

                10/71 = 14% of Leopard 2's lost
                2437/3727 = 65% of T-series tanks lost

By your own logic, 1,000 BMPs and 2,400 tanks is far more impactful for them even if they had many to begin with.

Shall we factor the other IFVs and MBTs Ukraine has received in? Or their T-series stocks?
