Now that this has been out for a while, what's our opinion on it? Good to go?

The gas system is moronic, the quad rails add too much weight and you have companies already making mlok replacement rails, plus the price. Look up Kit Badger in YouTube, he's been using his for a while and has valid criticism

      Why tho.

Not him but it's this weird short-stroke piston long-stroke operating rod thing.

I have read similar from other people, which amount to criticisms of theoretical design problems.
But the SCAR 17 has a reputation for being very reliable for a battle rifle both suppressed and not. It can also be tuned to be very soft shooting for a BR, maybe the most controllable there is.

I'd argue the SCAR can handle .308 recoil like a champ. It is very smooth shooting for a .308. IMO that's a reason for .308 SCARS, but not 5.56s though.

Is this screenshot trying to claim the SCAR uses a White style gas cutoff? I've never pulled my piston entirely apart, because it's really not necessary, but my SCAR doesn't have that pickiness with reloads that my M1A does, so I don't know what you're getting at. As far as "just get an AR10," I did, and it wasn't reliable, so I bought the SCAR, which so far hasn't malfunctioned.

That whole post is a troll.
The SCAR 17 is one of the lightest BRs there is, so claiming it uses weight to reduce recoil is objectively false.
Same for calling its recoil "stupid fricky" which could mean anything but that rifle is widely considered to be one of the softest shooting BRs around, even still.

The Perun X16 is a 5.56 rifle so obvious troll there. The Mutant is 7.62x39 so an in betweenez and built accordingly. Seems aimed at people who want both an AK and an AR but can't afford both. BRN same as the Perun.

When the SCAR 17 hit the market there were roughly 0 good AR-10s available to the public. That has changed and there are good variants now, but they cost as much or more than a SCAR.

The SCAR isn't perfect, but it's the lightest, most reliable, and accurate battle rifle available.

Sub MOA with a pencil barrel under 8 pounds etc.

Only real down side is that because it's so light its recoil impulse kills optics. Feels fine to humans tho

all those rails except for the top one are removable like most mlok rails...

nah, it's people that are too moronic to read the user manual and realize the thing has many setting to use depending on the ammo, elevation and use of suppressor
      >the quad rails add too much weight
jesus fricking christ do some fricking push ups you skeletton

The two rails on the side are plastic so weight almost nothing, plus they come off by removing two fasteners each.

Junk but boots on the ground only wanted it because it gave them a proper round to deal with PKMs and SVDEEEEES. US Army also killed it off by asking for a Reciprocating Charging handle lmao.
Give me an AR10 any fricking day.

Nothing he posted was wrong, NGSW was not the first attempt to extend the range of infantry due to experiences in Afghanistan. Why do you think the 16 was retired but the 17 wasn't?

SCARs are pretty terrible compared to the BREN or PSA JAKL.

Having seen FN vs PSA quality control...no fricking way in hell I would choose a JAKL over the SCAR and you're moronic to even suggest it.

I would have said the same thing but after seeing some post 2017 scars lack of QC and the 6.5 creedmoor Scar 20's being completely fricked right out of the box I'm sad to say FN has probably fallen to the level of being even below PSA now.

This sounds like the squishy squishy thing, where one instance gets blown up until every single gun of a given model is defective forever. Probably doesn't help that the SCAR has had a very strong hatedom for over a decade now. Squid broke this board.

Anything expensive makes a lot of people really mad. KAC's stuff does the same but it is less noticeable because of limited supply. Staccato does too.

BREN 2 dmr is still a never ever for the US market and the PSA JAKL is PSA
Their 5.56 versions do have some QC issues and I expect the 308 version to have the same

Does a suppressor void the warranty on the newer models?

      Anonymous

This all stems from a claim someone made n Faceberg in 2017 that FN would not warrant hist bolt failure because he was shooting suppressed. People linked to a generic provision in FN's warranty that aftermarket parts MAY void warranty, which all manufacturers have, and pretended like shooting suppressed or mounting an optic WOULD void it.

First of all, no matter what gun you own, it is breaks and you want to send it back you had better put it back to stock. Second, you don't beed to tell the manufacturer your life story, you just tell them you were shooting it and it broke please fix it. You can shoot a SCAR suppressed all day every day and it will almost certainly not break. If it does you pull the can off and send it back to them and say you were shooting it and it broke please fix it, just like any other gun.

I actually have a SCAR20S in 6.5. I've had it since 2021. Only 250 rounds through it, 200 of that through a suppressor. Zero failures and no popped primers. Shoots 140gr Hornady ELDs at .5moa or lower.

It's expensive but performs. Take it as you will.

Is this supposed to be good?

I inherited my uncle's Type 56 and it has had endless rounds, years worth, hardly ever maintained, and still works fine.

I don't believe the accuracy because local team dudes near me dropped all of their 20s because they shot like dog and 1 went full auto with match ammo. t. Knows the israelite that was selling them replacement ar10s

This tid bit of information will now be used against you in the court of FN warranty department
