Even better, 10 rounds = half pound of lead. You can buy engraved Beowulf floor plates on GB.

I'll give you an Eurogay's take because the issue is relevant here. The issue was never the mags, it's the powers that be eventually resorting to banning ammo. Hoard ammo, not mags.

This. Magazines are hard to get right but there's nothing in them that can be easily restricted. Sure it might take a while to figure out a source of springs that work well but other than that you can literally 3D print them or just make them out from sheet metal.
Ammunition is way more tricky, especially smokeless that doesn't require too many weird ass purchases.

Okay, so they ban ammo. What then? What do the guns do? Sit in a safe until your great grandchildren turn them into the state for a gift card? Implying any of you gays will even have children.

Oregon is going beyond just capacity, they are going after the capability to be converted, which essentially means anything with a removable floor plate.

This is already an issue in the US with states like California requiring back ground checks on ammo.

I have over 100 magazines. Once you reach a certain number of magazines the issue becomes ammo. I doubt I'll live long enough to even have to reload my AR more than one or two times in the event of a total Black person event in my city.

      Anonymous

yea ammo is the issue once you have so many mags you just try to find the best price on ammo you can to keep stocked, it's a pain in the ass keeping track of everything I usually keep a notepad of ammo stock and supplies and update it.

Have a friend that keeps about 500 30 round magazines fully loaded in his basement in a huge sealed storage box. That's 15k of just ammo that he's not shooting.

  16. 10 months ago
    Anonymous

Isn't this whole issue moot, at least logistically speaking, because most 10 round mags already are physically 30 round mags and can be very easily felonied back into being 30 round mags the minute anyone is so criminally inclined?

      Anonymous

This also doesn’t account for all the 30-round mags being sold by armory personnel from the various military bases; take CA: Camp Pendleton (as part of the Marines as a whole) replaced all the steel mags for the new polymer ones. Most of those mags weren’t dermo’ed, and from the people I talked to most dudes sold them for $3 in amounts of 100+. This doesn’t even get in to the logistical frick-ups that happen with ordering mags in general: one of our line companies submitted 3 separate requests for 250 mags because they couldn’t remember if they did it or not. The icing on the cake there is the moron who took their orders and put them in never noticed the other 3 requests they already had.
As long as the armory exists, and Marines/soldiers want some extra cash, 30 round mags won’t be hard to get.
      t. Marine in the armory, seen multiple dudes get out with 500+ pmags and sell them on the side.
Not going to even begin talking about repair parts

6+1 is a standard loadout, so i'd say 14 mags at minimum. id also recommend getting one high quality steel mag that you can abuse (reload drills and drops). that way you dont risk damaging your main magazines. PMAGS are durable too but unfortunately the polymers dont hold up quite as well once you get into decades of time. so i recommend all metal mags for hoarding.

    >AR mags
Hundreds because they are disposable items. Thousands if you can afford them
    >AK mags
50 or so. You can hammer railroad spikes with them and they will still function

      Anonymous

problem with this logic is zoomzooms buy too many mags and cant afford ammo. ammo is the main contraint, if ammo gets banned (or restricted to FLL-only sales) then you're fricked. id rather have 50,000 rounds of ammo and 6 mags than the other way around

  24. 10 months ago

The simple answer is that you really can't have enough. You never know what will happen legally and realistically AR mags are so cheap that anyone who's into guns enough to want them should have a decent little stockpile. That said I think someone just getting their first AR should want at least 10, bare minimum. From there just make it a point to buy one every time you find yourself in a gun store. Before you know it, you'll have 30 of them.

Baste. I strive for 10 mags per gun, more for AR’s. I got to keep some old Colt/Bushmaster mags from a prior job and just put new springs and followers in, better than new.

Five. One in the gun, one in case that one runs out, three waiting back home.
High-capacity magazines are crutches for people who can't aim, can't prioritize, and can't pick their battles. Most scenarios only need 6-7 shots, max. 30 rounds, then, is about 5 of those scenarios.
