Koreans have been secretly admiring QE in its originally planned form.

      Anonymous

QE was designed as a STOVL carrier wish rolling vertical landings. Swapping to CATOBAR was built into the design but it was never the original design. Doing CATOBAR with less than 100k tons and 4 catapults tons is pointless, you'll get a better sortie rate with F-35B. The exception to this would be if you have a dogshit STOBAR carrier with only conventional aircraft (Su-33, MiG 29k etc), in those cases its better just not bothering and developing a better jet before trying to into carriers.

couldn't you just have like one landing strip and a bunch of vertical launch cells instead of this pagoda nightmare?
surely in CP2077 tech has gone to a point where you don't actually need a physical pilot inside a fighter jet so launch Gs shouldn't be an issue.

Those ramps are from HHI's CVX model, which was only there to be able to cater to the Navy's F-35B operability demand. But now that it's gone, there's nothing preventing it from being a full-out catobar carrier.

They zeroed out the carrier from their 2023 budget tho...

      >They zeroed out the carrier from their 2023 budget tho
Yeah, in order to complement the project and make extensive researches to bring it a whole new level.

They allocated a budget to study what to do next on the acc to focus on fast tracking the nuclear submarines

SK will develop their own aircraft carrier (most expensive, with UK or French support), buy from the UK or France, or convert existing helicopter carriers to light acc (cheapest option particularly with vtol aircrafts, like Japan did)

The fact SK placed an order for more F-35As back in July says they're not going to field the CVX until at least the mid 2030s.

Originally it was supposed to have F-35Bs which would've taken until ~2030 to be delivered at the current pace.

Now they want to domestically develop a carrier launched KF-21? Maybe by 2035 they'll have a carrier capable KF-21 considering the Block 10/20/30 are already planned for 2026/2028/2030. I don't see where they fit the KF-21N in until at LEAST 2032/3 and probably later.

The Izumos are already basically the very smallest you can get and still operate the 35s in any meaningful capacity, and the Dokdos are even smaller, so I don't see them being converted.

SK is among the most active in anti-piracy operations and have probably killed more pirates than the next five countries combined

This particular op is kino, Somalis hijack a Norwegian ship in Indian Ocean waters, long story short all Somali pirates killed, 100% crew freed with no casualties, 0% casualties of SK special operations marines which were supported by SK helicopter gunship, Norway had ship return largely undamaged

      Anonymous

      >Didn't the Nips actually help developed Korea during colonial rule?
They didn't develop it based on good will per se, most of it was just part of private companies moving its manufacturing facilities outside the country like car manufacturers flocking to Mexico to build factories because it has cheaper labor and low regulations. Also, most of the infrastructures were located in the north, which eventually ended up in the hands of commies.

Do you think US helping out Japan post war was a good thing or just private companies doing things? Or the Marshall Plan over Europe?

People like to be extremists and claim it can't be good will if theres profit involved, but thats just stupid. Profit just means you can do business in longer time scale without government intervention. Profit means business can be built and run for decades on a continual basis and train the work force of the country.

Anyone arguing goodwill cannot co-exist with profit is a moron.

To be fair, they've got good specs and western influenced MIC, but we really don't know about some of these systems korea is pushing out. They SHOULD be good on paper, but hard to say for sure.

They're probably fine for countries that want higher end military capabilities but on a budget.

Most western nations are blowing their budgets on F-35s, so if they can save some money buying Korean tanks or SPGs, or FA-50s for advanced trainers, then why not?

            South Korean weapons are expensive

K2 costs more than the M1a2sep3 and the Leopard 2, something like 3x the cost of a Leclerc or Challenger 2, but still sells more units than any other mbt

Some of their other weapons are really expensive to even down to the Daewoo K2 assault rifle, costs more than the M4 carbine and 2x the H416
