Certainly unrelated but I find it funny. The Houthis, in a follow up to their claim of hitting the ike in the red sea, released 2 pictures and a short video as "proof" of the hits. One of these pics was of the kuznetsov getting its deck repaved

Neglect a 40 year old ship, funnel supposed maintenance funds towards the traditional Russian corruption and when they finally got it docked for maintenance, the elite POCCNR crew managed to collapse the drydock and have the falling cranes bite off massive chunks of its upper decks to make it even more nightmarishly expensive to repair.

It's completely on the fact that Russia doesn't have shore facilities. They keep the ship running in port, they could have resolved this quickly but no.

        Lol no

A single aircraft carrier in no way meaningfully increases your anti-submarine capability.

Russia is better off pumping out long range maritime patrol aircraft with sonobouys and torpedoes that are land based instead of hoping that aircraft carrier ever sets sail again.

the stated objective of the UN force was to end the invasion of South Korea. The objective of South Korea was to survive. The objective of North Korea was to annex South Korea. The objective of China was to preserve North Korea.

how is it hard to understand this? the US and China both achieved their objectives. The only party that lost the war was North Korea. China paid a much dearer price for achieving its objective, losing far more soldiers, spending a far larger share of its national wealth, and losing its only force capable of mounting an amphibious assault to take Taiwan. The fact that the quick nation specific numbers have been removed from the wikipedia summary of the war which now only shows aggregated casualties suggests that the Chinese understand this and would rather people did not know about it.

Even if you accept China's numbers, 114k dead 340k wounded that is still over 3:1 to the US's reported 33k deaths and 103k wounded (based on data and documents that are open to the public). Western estimates suggest between a real death toll of over 400,000 with proportional casualties. It really is telling that they have removed national casualty breakdowns from the summary though, look at every other American war page on Wikipedia and it will break down the casualties in the summary, not Korea though. God you people are pathetic.

                >On 23 December 1950 Lieutenant General Walton Walker died in a vehicle accident in Seoul while in command of the U.S. 8th Army. He was the highest ranked U.S. military service member killed in the Korean War.
                >U.S. intelligence and air reconnaissance failed to detect the large numbers of Chinese soldiers present in North Korea. Thus, the UN units, the Eighth United States Army on the west and the X Corps on the east, kicked off the "Home-by-Christmas" offensive on 24 November with "unwarranted confidence...believing that they comfortably outnumbered enemy forces."[2]:60 The Chinese attacks came as a surprise. The Home-by-Christmas offensive, with the objective of conquering all of North Korea and ending the war, was quickly abandoned in light of the massive Chinese assault.
                >The Second Phase Offensive forced all UN forces to go on the defensive and retreat. China had recaptured nearly all of North Korea by the end of the offensive.

                >The Battle of Triangle Hill, also known as Operation Showdown or the Shangganling Campaign (Chinese: 上甘岭战役; pinyin: Shànggānlǐng Zhànyì),[nb 3] was a protracted military engagement during the Korean War. The main combatants were two United Nations (UN) infantry divisions, with additional support from the United States Air Force, against elements of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army (PVA) 15th and 12th Corps.[nb 2] The battle was part of UN attempts to gain control of the "Iron Triangle" and took place from 14 October to 25 November 1952.
                >The original plan for Operation Showdown called for simultaneous attacks on both Triangle Hill and Sniper Ridge. One battalion from the US 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division would take Triangle Hill from Gimhwa-eup, while one battalion from the ROK 32nd Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division would attack Sniper Ridge along a parallel northbound route. UN planners expected the operation to last no more than five days with 200 casualties on the UN side.
                >The immediate UN objective was Triangle Hill ( WikiMiniAtlas38°19′17″N 127°27′52″E), a forested ridge of high ground 2 kilometers (1.2 mi) north of Gimhwa-eup. The hill was occupied by the veterans of the PVA's 15th Corps. Over the course of nearly a month, substantial US and Republic of Korea Army (ROK) forces made repeated attempts to capture Triangle Hill and the adjacent Sniper Ridge. Despite clear superiority in artillery and aircraft, the escalating UN casualties resulted in the attack being halted after 42 days of fighting, with PVA forces regaining their original positions.
The US never tried to advace further into North Korea because of "good will" amirite?:

The Vietnamese used the chinese Type 56 AK, which is what most of the US GI's faced in Vietnam and It was this AK that started the reliability legend of the AK since It was actually a milled receiver AKs unlike the stamped receiver AKM's that the soviets finally adopted:

McArthur was always being a moron...
Almost every battle the commies and turdies were involved in is an embarrassment.
They have to scour the wold history of conflict, going a century back, and scaling down to single regiments, fighting so far from their own border it's almost funny they're even capable of that, to find battles lost.
These battles lost still usually aren't long, are on dug-in enemy home-turf, and the ratios are still always heavily in the US and "western" favor.
Those battles could have been won but cutting losses is a western concept too. Even with a 1 to 100 ratio if you're losing men and it's not your own battle for survival, at some point you admit defeat, and save your own men. Loves matter. To westerners.

Then Russia is also winning the current war in Ukraine because they managed to stabilize the front and even retake some land, despite the fact they tried to invade the entire country in 3 days (MacArthur's Home-by-Christmas Offensive to invade the entirety of North Korea) failed miserably and had to retreat from Kiev, Kharkov, Kherson and run away (MacArthur and the UN getting Its shit pushed in and having to retreat from the Chinese border to the 38th parallel). Now Russia is claiming that the goal was never to conquer the entirety of Ukraine and the main goal was to protect the citizens of Donbass (same way US says that never wanted to conquer North Korea in the first place and It's main goal was to protect SK).

Russia does have their own cultural tradition equivalent of "Manifest destiny". It is to be the guardian and a protector of the slavic people. Even if they don't want it. A sort of big brother to smaller slavic nations.

Of course this only translates into brutal dictatorial autocracy, but that's the only way russian understand about power. You are either the boss, or you are a slave. No in-between.
And they have kinda decided that they WILL be the boss.

Fortunently they have finally reached the point where the reality starts to break into that bubble of thinking. World isn't what they have been taught to think, and it pisses them off. Like any empire which has to come to terms that it is no longer an empire, they throw hissy-fit about it. Like the french who still refuse to speak any other language because THEIRS is (was) the language that everyone spoke (three hundred years ago). Realizing that you are a has-been can be painful, and many simply refuse to face that truth.

The left wing argument about this is that it was a ploy by the perfidious Euro/Anglo to flood their markets and kill off the notoriously rugged and efficient Russian industrial sector so that in a few decades they would end up as a country of wage slaves for Europe. They will never not bring up Poland as an example of this and say how the fall of communism and economic integration turned Poland into a nation of expatriate cattle who exist to clean toilets in Germany, Benelux and France.

I have no idea what they tell right wingers but it probably goes along the lines of “TRANNIES TRANNIES TRANNIES”.

. Last major vestiges of France's colonial empire have been destroyed by Russian supported coups. Including Niger which supplied a large amount of their uranium. Russia is basically working as hard as possible to strangle Europe's energy resources so it can maximize its leverage as a major supplier and turn that economic leverage into political dominance/control. It's visible at every level of their strategy from preventing the development of Ukrainian gas to influence ops in Africa.

Like bad enough for Russia and good enough for the US that I have to wonder if there was US intelligence involvement. The Ukrainians are putting a measurable dent in their refining capacities by destroying cracking towers that are irreplaceable on the short-near term. Which forces them to export more of their product as crude which then becomes more gasoline outside of Russia on global markets

France could establish a no fly zone in western Ukraine. Russians couldn't challenge them.
If Ukrainians hold and get land back they get more oil, natural gas and water resources. That's all this war is about for Russia. If France helps they get leverage with those fields. It's risky but could end up being a 100 billion a year payoff long term

Do you believe Russia has the capacity to repair the damage that decades of neglect has done to it? This includes reversing their kleptocracy so funds for repairs actually go to fixing it.
If not like most everyone who has seen the Russian condition laid bare over the past two years then the only conclusion is it has continued to degrade and given the state it was in previously there is no reality in which repair is a realistic goal.

One thing I could think of would be for the baltic sea in the short term to take gotland, bornholm and cut off the kattegatt sea around sjælland so not Nato reinforcement can enter the baltic region as they work their way through Europe. Sure they have planes in st Petersburg and kaliningrad with decent range but it would speed up the rearm and refuel to keep planes in the air during the initial attack.

      1. It's expensive. Russia is fighting a land war, and every penny spent on the navy (that isn't involved in fighting said land war, mind) is a waste.
      2. There's no point. Aircraft carriers.are for force projection. A floating aircraft carrier, for both launching airstrikes as well as logistical resupply. But where is Russia's use case? Syria? Africa? Cuba? These are not regions of importance, and even if Russia had a functional aircraft carrier they are arguably beyond its current ability to reach.
      3. China is prepping for a war with Taiwan, and a carrier it sends to Russia is a carrier it doesn't have.
      4. Russia is not a naval power, has never been a naval power, and will never be a naval power. It has neither the experience nor will to maintain a surface navy, and there is a reason why it spend the entire Cold War 'mastering' a subsurface fleet - it needed second strike capability but also it was easier to have a navy that didn't involve anyone seeing how incompetent it was.

However, when Russia + Arab Spring and to some extent Syria was helped along to make a lot of places basically go from unlivable shitholes to certain death, that was enough to send a lot of them into Europe. The vast majority of them are completely fricking useless human beings in the 21st century with no skills to offer the western world and create a problem for Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey and anywhere else they wash up.
      >Oil in the near future
Its not looking good with OPEC+ essentially trying to put the brakes on production across all its members to try and keep prices worth the effort to drag it out of the dirt. For what is rapidly becoming a crude supplier with no refined products this is VERY bad for Russia. Prices are going to be low for a long time and at some point what they have to transport it, isn't going to cut it
      >Gas and China
Russia has gas and needs cash, China likes gas and has cash. Simple!
No, they can't work anything out about who builds what and where it will end up and most importantly- who pays for this shit. China isn't paying for it, Russia's problem. Russia doesn't have the cash and much less the labour to put in an overland pipeline from St Pidors to Western China, so that is Russia's problem.
At some point, things might have to get turned off and once that's done, its pretty much done for decades

Oh God, please do not release That Which Is Sealed Below Deck!
If Kuznetzov suddenly starts to move under its own power, activate the Gottard-Strevens containment breach protocol!

Maybe someone can answer a question for me now this thread is winding down. When you go to /chug/ and you see the absolute seething fury of like bong and American flags over Ukraine, where does it come from and why? Assuming that some of them are actually legit white bongs and yankees, why the frick are they so buttfurious over Ukraine? It just seems so bizarre, like what could Ukraine possibly have ever done to them?
Quite a lot of the time, not even Russianflags display such a visceral hatred.

      Those are mostly VPNs.
You can readily spot a few Americans from Texast Oblast suddenly appearing and starting to post together, as well as good old Beige and Here In Poland. They also got two trannies, one Panama and quite a few jets.

60% of those are VPN gays, the others are western useful idiots, seething leftists who have spent their entire political lives supporting anti-western politics, and severely moronic western right wingers who will suck the dick of anyone that validates their culture war seething.

Desperately supporting anything that isn't pozzed/homobozoglobo/whatever other /misc/ buzzwords used to describe the decadent wect. They think Russia winning will humble and de-homosexual the west, even though it's been shown that Russia's best interests are to INCREASE the amount of homosexualry making the west appear weak. Useful idiots and culture war wank.
