Russians claim that the SU-57 was hit by a new wunderwaffe invisible drone.

Russians are coping that the Ukranians hit Akhtubinsk (400km from the front) with a new invisible HATO drone that "can't be shot down by any air defense in the world".

They also revealed that on top of the SU-57 a Pantsir and S-300 also got "almost completly destroyed".

Did Ukraine actually receive some "stealth drones" in the last aid package or are the Russians just coping?

It wouldn't even the twentieth time they've had to admit they do in fact have something because they got caught using it out in the wild.

Black Stealth Helicopters were a deranged conspiracy theory until the SeALs crashed one in Pakistan. You could see alien space craft being tested every night at Area 51 until the government admitted they had triangle shaped stealth bomber. Ect

OT1H you're correct; every legitimate "UFO" has turned out to be a Govt tictac
OTOH you're wrong; nothing was "caught" here, this is Russians coping because they are unwilling to admit that bog-standard NATO weapons are good enough to rape them this hard without resorting to wunderwaffles

I remember finding an old cold war spy novel where the plot was about secret US vs Soviet psychic warrior programs. Think hammer and sickle scanners. It made me realize that when you're consumed with fear and paranoia, you can imagine the enemy to be capable of literally anything.

It's a wonder it doesn't happen more often.
I once saw a Beaver barely clear a rental motorboat with a group of tourists that decided to make a turn right into their take off run for no apparent reason.
I don't think the morons even realized how close to death they came, they just kept going.

Pilot is probably going to be found at fault in this case. Those boats were both travelling on a steady course at a steady speed. The pilot had ample time to abort the takeoff but instead decides he was going to thread the needle between two boats passing one another, when both vessels would have been well within their rights to slow down during the pass.

Marichka was a mascot of the 2014 Maidan revolution and originally handing out tea cups to freezing protesters.

The Russians gave here sharp teeth, tried to portray her as an easy girl and have her the tattoos. After the invasion, the Ukrainians started to use her exactly like this to mock pictures of Russian losses.

So no, she did not always have the tattoos. She used to be clothed at first.

They essentially hand out potatoes and Softdrinks for families whose sons died. But they completely rely on donations for their funding so they have a very small budget. I don't get why people put up with their shit. I would probably punch anyone in the face who offers me Cheetos as a relief package for my fallen son.

Ukraine has been waging its TAD campaign since late spring 2023 - Russian arty losses after May 2023 are on average 27 units/day; before that it was 7. This result has been brewing for over a year now.
Curious how I almost never see this discussed outside of /k/ and some youtubers that probably post here.

/k/ was way ahead of the internet when the invasion started and even western media was no hoping the Ukrainians. /k/ called that Ukraine would hold the Russians in a vukovar style urban engagement and that the invasion would stall. /k/ nailed it. In general I have found /k/ to be disturbingly correct about most military conflicts, weapons and outcomes and I think it because this board has a genuine volume of ex spooks, combat veterans and mercenaries creeping around. /k/ was screaming that the Russian military and equipment was actually fake vaporware for years as well and /k/ was right about that too

all media outlets have an agenda - all news and analysis are conducted in predictable manner - however if you compare many different sources keeping in mind their inherent bias there are real gems in there - even propaganda outlets sometimes slip something interesting...
so if you look at human news aggregators that do that you have much clearer picture of what is happening - even it they are also biased (as they will filter out some more obnoxious content aimed at conducting psych warfare and obscuring reality)
this is not some magical crystal ball people are often wrong here - but there are so many different opinions that someone will make right assumption by numbers game alone (some are skewing this by knowledge experience and amount of work they do sifting trough the information garbage bin - but still are not all knowing) ...

In teh PutinBunker I have no doubt teh narritive is now that Russia was attacked by NATO. Facing reality is never a good idea ariound insane dictators. For me the moment when I decided Putin was insane was when he sat on stage at an 'economic conference' with the Presided f of Zimbabwe, a nation with persistent hyperinflation run by criminals while over a 1000 Russians died in Ukraine. The man is insane, he's psychotic, he does not live in reality.....but you can't ignore reality forever or fight the war in Ukraine without tanks or artillery.

Its essentially impossible because of the way the Russian state operates means these claims are made all the time, in response to virtually anything, but only by someone of low level in the government or a government affiliate but not part of the formal apparatus of state. Its how they keep their population disengaged, ill explain how it works and will assume you are an American, consider the below

      >The news annouces that due to poorer than expected non-farm payroll numbers the government will explore launching a unilateral nuclear strike on Peru
      >Before you can even properly digest the above statement the next programme on your TV is a talkshow where 6 panelists are discussing the plan to nuke Peru with 5 in favour and the 6th opting instead for a limited mustard gas attack on a few, but not all, of the cities in Bolivia
      > You spend the next few hours wondering the impact of nuking Peru, why your country would even do it, and if you should be alarmed
      >The folllowing day nothing is mentioned on the TV about nuking Peru and even the panelists who were yesterday wholeheartedly advocating the nuclear annihilation of the Peruvian people are not saying anything about it as the new topic is executing the Indonesian ambassador to the United states in response to a crop failure in Iowa
      >This continues as above almost daily, the batshit promises are never made by anyone of any power but are relentlessly hyped and discussed by every TV station which gives them the air of credibility. Rarely, but enough for you to notice, they say something bat shit and actually donit, just so you cant think its always bullshit

Thats how you break an entire population, you make the world of politics so confusing, arbitrary and frightening people choose to live in ignorance and they effectively cede their political destiny to you without a struggle so they no longer have to think about it

There probably does exist a cheap drone bomb that can't be detected by any radar air defense in the world. These things are getting ridiculously small and light and it looks like there's a lot of experimenting with off the shelf materials going on now.

Once someone figures it out footage will get leaked, the details will be figured out and everyone will start doing them. Maybe some kind of ultra lightweight drone balloon or blimp?

I mean a stealth one-way drone does make a lot of sense since they are so fricking slow that their only plausible way to not get shot down by competent air defense is to not be spotted. Of course, the question is "can ukraine actually manufacture something that advanced" and I wouldn't think so although considering how we've seen cessna-sized aircraft fly like 500 miles over Russia to hit all kinds of shit multiple times, the more obvious answer is "the air defense was incompetent."

Honestly a slow drone with a stealthy shape is entirely within Ukraine's capability (they already make several drones that appear to be incorporating some LO shaping principles) but I just don't see them being able to get thier hands on actual RAM and there's no fricking way they can develop that shit independently

I don't think that Su57 ever existed OP. Like the armata that was just a vehicle for Russian corruption. So they are covering it up. Maybe something else got destroyed. The Russians are getting massacred

Russian losses last 24 hours and totals, personnel is Russians killed and does not include wounded.

    09.06.2024
    Tanks — 7869 (+26)
    Armored fighting vehicle — 15131 (+26)
    Artillery systems — 13593 (+60)
    MLRS — 1097 (+2)
    Anti-aircraft warfare — 836 (+2)
    Planes — 357
    Helicopters — 326
    UAV — 10982 (+37)
    Cruise missiles — 2277
    Ships (boats) — 28
    Submarines — 1
Truck and Fuel Tankers— 18562 (+78)
    Special equipment — 2253 (+5)
    Military personnel — aprx. 518560 people (+1270)

These Russian losses are for anyone who has been following the war closely for years, huge. These types of devastating losses have not been seen since the Kherson counteroffensive. Russia has now lost 67% of all the artillery, including stockpiles and in service it had pre war.

makes me wonder if we're going to see massive changes in tactics or losses as a result of the worsening artillery situation. the war's long been talked about as a big artillery duel masquerading as a war, but we've yet to see a massive gap in capabilities since perhaps the early eastern war. they compensated with drone spotting and accuracy elsewhere, and i'll be curious if they have enough capability left to take advantage if they start to have more artillery than the russians.

Not yet, The Russians need about 7200 guns for complete coverage, and we know this from their ideal in service numbers although some of those will be training units etc. They ahve about 6500 left. They need more guns than Ukraine because theirs are generally shorter range and less accurate meaning they need three to give good odds of a hit on a zero'd position. It's probably effecting them though for sure but where it matters most is in defense, preventing breaches of minefields etc. When their losses get to about 80% or about 16000 guns they begin to loose the ability to defend or cover large sections of the front and have to shorten it. Its a very long front as well. Russia is in a terrible situation militarily. They only make 100-200 new artillery barrels a year as well (I'm being kind most analysts say about 100), less than three days worth. China only has about 7500 pieces as well, it can't keep Russia in this fight. The better counter battery radars, accuracy and range as well as better trained and equipped crews o the Ukrainian side have won the artillery war for Ukraine. However you won't see the results yet in Russians actually lacking artillery cover in stretches of the front, by august maybe. When they loose artillery though, its brutal for them and they will have to risk their airforce dropping glide and dumb munitions, which is going to run smack into F16s. You can see how Ukraine is shaping the battlefield by educing Russian AA and artillery. Russia is fricked. There is no point in the kremlin even pretending they are in the fight with any hope of anything short of handing over Putin and raising a white flag,

They will push a lot of tanks without engines into positions as artillery again as they did with T54s but it won;t buy them much time as tank barrels are for higher velocity ammunition than artillery and wear out much faster. We will see that phase because there will be a spike in tank losses as the Ukrainians will book them in as such, I'm guessing late july august for that. It will in turn accelerate the final destruction of the Russian tank scrapyards and help reduce them further.

                So
High daily artillery MLRS and AA losses for Russia for two months
                Russia artillery losses hit ~16000
Russian tank losses start rising daily
Russia starts having to shorten its lines, probably at Luhansk because it is hard to see what they can do at kherson.
Increased use of Russian airforce in glide bombs and dumb bombs as aerial artillery.
Increased losses of air frames 1-2 a day
Continual shortening of the front required as the remaining artillery is soaked up
By the end of summer Russia can only afford a front half as long as the current one. That will be difficult to keep the overland bridge with.
Strategically, operationally and tactically it is fricking ogre for Russia.
I'm guessing that the less insane people around Putin are desperately hoping for some political miracle in both the EU and USA that leaves Ukraine abandoned and without backing, but even that is weak as many of the new factories are in western Ukraine and come online by year end. I suppose they are staying in the war because their friend trump and his american supporters are riding to the rescue of tyranny and that's the Russian wet dream, the USA loosing all standing in the western wold and globally if he does.

see i imagine a shortening of the front would be something that they would like to do more on their terms, and perhaps even wanted to prepare for with Kharkiv. looking back i imagine the thinking was
                >take Kharkiv
                >use as a position to reach the Dnipro river
                >force Ukraine to do boat landings for supplies
                >ideally hold off amphibious assaults easier than normal ones
                >slowly close pocket while attempting to cover losses by having the shorter and easier to defend front
it certainly seems they didn't have the time to properly prepare for the assault, leading it to stall out, and now even be at risk of getting turned back. it's not an amazing plan, but perhaps it was more the impetus than the 'well we can just take this and draw more troops this way' plan. after all, it now appears to have significantly backfired given that now donated munitions are greenlit for use on Russian soil.

the announced aid seems to have caused them to go before they were ready, and now i'm not quite sure where they pivot to. the loss of Crimea seems inconceivable to them, as if they are willing to throw away as much as they have to in order to keep it. i suppose this is all a waiting game now, or at the very least only a bit of armchair generaling, but there's some really harsh realities they have to now work within.

We're already seeing results in the form of significantly increased reliance on glide bombing

this is something that i'm really interested in seeing where it goes. F-16's might not be exceptional at any one thing, but if you put one up at high altitude with an AMRAAM, you've got some very dangerous potential for BVR engagements. i don't think the kill probability is particularly high, and i'm 90% sure an F-16 can't just outclimb the effective range of an S-300, let alone an S-400, but if those systems start running low, i wonder if an F-16 couldn't at least scare them enough to not fly just in case.

It has to be half its current length within three months for Russia to have even marginal defensive capacity. There is no way for Russia to do that without giving up Luhansk

What about buying NK arty barrels

                >What about buying NK arty barrels
They already got trainloads of NK D30s. You have to understand that they also have losses from barrel wear (thousands) so the stuff from NK has been absorbed without it making any difference. NK has about 8000 pieces and they are critical to NKs defense. They can't keep Russia in the war either, they don't have the stocks and what they have is not great either.

i don't know if i want to put so short a timeline on it, it seems rather optimistic to say that there could be such a short turnaround on russia's gains to me. then again, wars have a habit of happening very slowly, and then all at once.

well at 40 guns a day Russia is down 1200 a month and that brings them down to ~15,993 in two months (80%). That leaves them only ~4000 guns which is 57% of what they need to cover the CURRENT front line. That's a big gap for aircraft to fill. By the end of august they only have about 2800 left and can only defend 41% of the front they have. SO yes, they have to half the front they have. I don't think the Russian military is actually thinking logically here or their leadership would already be leaving Ukraine militarily. I don;t think there was a 'plan' for Kharkiv beyond 'The trump people have stalled weapons deliveries quick attack and we will be in Kyiv in three days or they will accept our offer of a frozen conflict', pipedreams. Fact is that you can'd defend suck a long front line with only 41% of it covered by artillery and whether you want to or not, it will shorten, either by enemy activity or, by your own choice. I'm seeing them give up luhansk to hold onto the Crimean landbridge when push comes to shove.

i think advancing through that territory is still going to be rather difficult, the Russians should have had plenty of time to reinforce it, though i suppose assuming anything about the Russian military is a fools game at this point. giving up Mariupol might just lead to everything falling apart at this point(and it wouldn't solve the frontline size problem), Crimea appears to be politically impossible for them to give up at this point despite the logistical headache they could save themselves by doing so. yet giving up Luhansk might be just as destructive to them in a way, it'd be admitting they cannot take Ukraine militarily anymore, and will have to just defend what they can. Putin seems completely against the idea of pulling a full mobilization, and as their artillery degrades it can only cover the gap for so long. granted Ukraine will be burning barrels just as much, but shortening the front goes both ways there, and it seems they're going to be left with far more effective systems than Russia is currently fielding. i suppose it'll be a waiting game to see if things begin to change in August, or if it will take until next spring for that sort of change to occur.

                >. Putin seems completely against the idea of pulling a full mobilization
He effectively already has. His initial invasion force is gone, his initial ground force is gone, his first line trained reserves are gone. Entire ethic regions of Russia like the Buryats have been wiped out. A million people left Russia, half a million are dead, 1-2 million are maimed or crippled but that's now the problem, what is Putin going to arm them with? They are already running out of artillery. What are these unfit chain smoking men without any logistical backing to feed them or stop them from freezing during winter supposed to do? What magic is 'full mobilisation' supposed to achieve that will make more artillery pieces arrive or make a field full of unfit drunks with small arms immune to cluster munitions thrown from 40KM away?

                >Ukraine will be burning barrels just as much
Western barrels like western jet engines last about three times longer because of better metallurgy.

                >i think advancing through that territory is still going to be rather difficult, the Russians should have had plenty of time to reinforce it
They can give that up or see the land bridge severed, it is the choice available to them, if the guns are defending the front protecting the land bridge then there are no guns to defend luhansk and the territory in Ukraine means you need artillery to defend and tanks to advance. Minefields and trenches are useless if you have no artillery to stop them being breached.

perhaps i'm overly cautious. after all, i'm still skeptical when even the ukes release their kill counts. there's been plenty of things about this war that have shocked me, and a rapid collapse on Russia's part would just be another surprise i suppose. as another anon says, if we see a massive increase of old tanks pressed into service as artillery, and a corresponding increase in their losses, it's going to be a portent of real bad things for them militarily. the thing is i think if they end up approaching TAD for modern artillery, and are left with old systems that are outranged and crushed by counter-battery, i'm not sure they'd even get to hold the shrunken lines for long. there may be a limiting factor in how much ground Ukraine can de-mine at once at that point, or at least confirm a lack of mines before advancing over.
                >land bridge
if they're stuck holding the land bridge, do they commit AD to that for military purposes, or bring more of it towards the home front to defend actual Russian territory to avoid appearing weak? the SU-57 hit, even if superficial, could be a serious propaganda threat. there's also a serious risk that F-16's with JDAM's could rapidly deplete artillery and entrenched positions at that point, which makes the ongoing campaign against Russian AD that much more of a problem. there doesn't seem to have been a lot of sorties flown in the occupied areas these days, and SEAD is a role that the F-16 can fill when asked to. i almost wish i had an itemized list of what equipment is on those F-16's to better speculate with, but i think the chances of getting that are just about 0.

they aren't just running out of artillery, the lack of armoured vehicles is incredibly obvious with more and more tuk tuks / golf carts / etc fielded as a substitute

rumor has it the turrets are already useless on these when they arrive on the front, even though the guns can fire. i wouldn't be surprised, maintenance is a high budget thing on material sitting in a depot, and Russia has a nasty habit of making 'useless' budgets end up in people's pockets.

We're already seeing results in the form of significantly increased reliance on glide bombing

Russia has no doctrine or tactic or even way to operate in a position of numerical artillery inferiority.Their entire military mindset for 70 years is based around them having numerical artillery superiority (as well as armour).

Funnily enough, for a country with doctrine around artillery superiority they never bothered with the sufficient logistics tail to supply that artillery for longer than an initial confrontation.

Guess we can call their artillerymen two pump chumps to go along with the air defense cuckolds.

Russia never planned for this. Putin was sure Ukraine would fold and he would be sneering like he did in 2014. Putin was positive that neither the USA or EU would help Ukraine and that NATO was weak and divided, he bet on it. The Russians also genuinely believed they were going to take Kyiv in a week. At no point did they plan for a real fight, which is what they got. Their 'general armageddon' and his mass artillery barrages critically wore out thousands of guns and used up their soviet artillery munition stockpile for nothing with no consideration on what might happen if it did not work. That's the military genius from Syria who's solution was to shell everything flat.

The arrest this may of Major General Ivan Popov is very indicative of the fact they know they have problems with artillery.

He was signaling crisis as far back as summer 2023

"“I drew attention to the greatest tragedy of modern war – the lack of artillery reconnaissance and counterstrikes and the multiple deaths and injuries caused by enemy artillery,” Popov said, according to the message circulated on the Telegram channel of Duma legislator Andrei Gurulyov.
“The soldiers of the Ukrainian armed forces could not break through our front, but from behind the commander-in-chief dealt us a treacherous blow by decapitating the army at the most critical and tense moment,”

The funny think about this war is people say it is amazing how much it has aspects of WW1 but you know something gentlemen, it reminds me as much of conversations at corps level during the Napoleons campaigns about guns. Nothing changes, everything is always the same in the end.

Nothing is invisible for long, once you get your hands on them you can figure out how they show up on radar and program the air defense accordingly. (because everything does show up, even if small)

If they gave the Ukrainians truly stealth drones they wouldn't have used them on what is ultimately a minor propaganda victory with little consequences on the war, I would expect something like new stealth drones to be kept secret and massed in large numbers for an offensive in order to blow up command posts, SAMs, airfields and ammo storage facilities in order to facilities.
